Great lecture, to the person who commented on this video stating that Pharmacology is all about making profit rather than helping people. This video has nothing to do with Economy or political agendas. This is purely educational, for the purpose of clarifying the subject of Pharmacology for MBBS and Medical based students. There's a huge difference between Pharmacology which focuses on how your body reacts to the drugs you take and how the drugs affect your body when you're subscribing a medicine for a patient and how Pharmacies and Drug companies operate generally. As a future Doctor this is a highly important subject. I'm supposed to know how a drug reacts and which drug does what, depending on the patient's condition. Please, do your research before hand and keep all political and economical thoughts aside. This is not the place for them.

Pharmacists are highly respected health professionals with ever increasing responsibilities as they move further and further into diagnosing and prescribing roles. It was an unnecessary "put down" from somebody who should know better. But apart from that I enjoyed the lecture, thanks.

I interpreted his comment very differently, to me he seem to be highlighting the unfortunate reality that pharmacists, who are the most knowledgeable about pharmacology, often have a lesser clerical role in the patient care team. They are undervalued in this country

There are Pharmacology texts written for Medical Students, Nursing Students & every other Health Science major. Most importantly, choose a book that is "readable" & understandable to YOU. Usually some pages are posted on-line as a sample of the text. www.amazon.com/s?k=pharmacology&crid=3UH1HL076E140&sprefix=pharmacology%2Caps%2C131&ref=nb_sb_noss_1

Epo is not only produced in the kidney; ca. 10% is produced in the liver and vsmall amounts also in other regions; but I guess he skipped that part for the sake of simplicity. Another thing: If I remember correctly from a chemistry lecture, only the S-enantiomere of Contergan (Thalidomide) would lead to things like phokomelia and the company wasn't aware of this difference and "mixed" both (the R-enantiomere is the active "helpful" type); I agree with the law having in such cases a good influence. But I am pretty sure in some other cases the law is delaying the availability of good drugs (and thus leading to prolonged suffering).

31:04 Your statements on the role of a pharmacist could use some refining; consider using less derogatory bias and oversimplification of some of their responsibilities. Otherwise, I enjoyed the introductory information on pharmacology.

He is a good professor. I am definitely enjoying the lecture; however, his comments that pharmacist serve as "secretaries" is completely false! I truly hope that he encounters more pharmacist and witnesses the effect we truly have within health systems constantly day to day. I think he is misinformed of the role of pharmacist and his perspective holds very little weight in comparison to what the job of a pharmacist is. Pharmacy is a clinical doctoral degree. We respond to codes, teach diabetes education, counsel patients, administer immunizations, and many of us are board certified in pharmacotherapy, critical care, ambulatory care, anti-coagulation. We are vital to patient care and NOT serving as "secretaries."
@xDomglmao
@xDomglmao 7 лет назад
He said "more or less" and he explained why: no surgery, no cavities; but record keeping and distributing. I am wondering why so many pharmas here do see these two sentences as lack of respect towards themselves, when in fact he did not say a single bad word but rather pointed out their importance.

"Patents are a property right granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office anytime during the development of a drug and can encompass a wide range of claims. Currently, the term of a new patent is 20 years from the date on which the application for the patent was filed in the United States. Exclusivity refers to certain delays and prohibitions on approval of competitor drugs available under the statute that attach upon approval of a drug or of certain supplements. The period of Exclusivity depends upon the type of Drug: Orphan Drug Exclusivity (ODE) - 7 years New Chemical Entity Exclusivity (NCE) - 5 years Generating Antibiotic Incentives Now (GAIN) Exclusivity- 5 years added to certain exclusivities New Clinical Investigation Exclusivity - 3 years Pediatric Exclusivity (PED) - 6 months added to existing Patents/Exclusivity Patent Challenge (PC) - 180 days (this exclusivity is for ANDAs only) Competitive Generic Therapy (CGT) - 180 days (this exclusivity is for ANDAs only)" Source: www.fda.gov/drugs/developmentapprovalprocess/ucm079031.htm#What_is_the_difference_between_patents_a

It sounded so unfamiliar and strange in the begining. But the second table really made sense to me. Firata table was: Vicodin? Possibly not even on the market in Bulgaria. No one talks about it. Altrough I believe Dr House uses it. But he is american and not even real? The Lipo... thing and all the other cardiovascular stuff. Never used any, never had some problem with that system. I guess american diet may have sonething to say and old people weight in on this stuff. There was one antibiotic(with an intenational name) and 1 or 2 other familiar to me classes of drugs toward the bottom. Altrough the concrete brands were some foreign american stuff. But the second table "the classes" was so familiar. - 10 years on antidepresants, mainly SSRI - 6 years on PP inhibitors - antipsichotics as asistant drugs in low doses but long time. For years. 2, 3, 4th place. Most of the medicaments below them I have uses at some time in the past. So much more familiar. By removing the cardiovascular drugs it may be really close to my Personal statistics. :D
