Target Audience
This activity is designed for primary care physicians and advanced practice providers.
Statement of Need
Practice rapidly evolves with the development of new pharmacological interventions. Providers are not always aware of
the latest pharmacology guidelines and updates in the treatment of chronic medical conditions.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to:
1. Discuss the historical and current concerns related to controlled substance prescribing/ use
2. Understand substance use disorder considerations and evidence based prescribing
3. Recognize patients at high risk for opioid and benzodiazepine over dose
4. Identify appropriate non-opioid/non-benzodiazepine pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapies for
common conditions.
