Hey wonderful humans! 💙 Here's the first video in the a 4 part series I've created for after abdominal surgery. I'd love to hear how this was for you... it's very gentle - to be used as soon as you are able to after surgery. Was it gentle enough? Let me know what you found helpful or even less helpful. If you need the next level up, you can move onto Phase Two in the series: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wztrXmte1iM.html And if you'd like to try other post-ab surgery videos to alternate with this one, when you've built up enough strength and your wound has healed enough, then here is the link to my whole playlist of videos for you: ru-vid.com/group/PLap6D_DFf94VH35zdv1FKO2G7mOJCwcgc 🌺 Lots of love to you and blessings on your healing ✨🌟✨

Joy, I’m so glad I’ve found you. I had a total hysterectomy due to large fibroids last week and though our nhs staff are brilliant and the surgery went well I felt that post op recovery advice was totally neglected. I love you’re peaceful guidance to move mindfully and heal. Thank you!

Hello lovely one, so sweet to read your message 💕 I'm really pleased you're finding these videos helpful. I keep hearing how the post op support isn't so great... and not just in the UK either! I've been speaking with women about their experiences for a new project I'm doing (about pelvic abdominal health). Would you be into chatting with me on Zoom to help with my research? Hello ☺I feel very related. I had the surgery 12 days ago and it has been very hard, plus I had an infection in the incision area, so I wasn't able to move much until day 9, despite doctors insisted on me moving as much as I could from day 1. I really wish I hadn't, because it made it much worse. I would say resting is more important than get you moving straight away, as they instructed me to do. After seeing this video I realised that I have been doing all these movements from the beginning because it was what felt right, so I am glad I did. Thank you @YogaWithJoy for the videos, and everybody for sharing your experiences :) 🙏🏼🥰 I wish you all get better soon.

The session and the comments are reassuring. The post-op recovery information from medical field is limited and too general. Didn't know what to expect beyond pain meds, daily walking and rest. This body needs and craves the focused and intentional movements Your sessions provide. NAMASTE

Happy I found this. I've had two abdominal surgeries in the past 6 years, my last one was 2 years ago where I had a myomectomy to remove 15 fibroids. I'm able to walk a normal speed and run again, but there are moments where I feel this sharp, internal pull if I get up too quickly or don't bend over carefully. I tend to forget that my body isn't the same and the reminders are painful. I'd like to begin working out my core, so figured I'd start slow. I apologized to my body this entire video for not doing exercises like this sooner. Excited to continue the rest of the series. Thank you, Joy ❤ This comment section is so healing. To the ladies that recently got their surgeries: One slow step forward is still a step. Be patient with yourselves. The fact that you're here says so much. Keep going ✨(Oh and rubbing circles on my stomach helped move the gas along!)

Me too ( 2 weeks hysterectomy/ cystocele/rectocele repair and remove abdominal adhesions - 10 hour surgery). No one gives you any direction other than “rest, don’t lift”. But when you were active prior to surgery, doing nothing after 3 weeks just feels wrong. I’m glad to see simple movements to start recovering from all this..especially at age 66

Hello, I had a few post-op complications from hysterectomy so, although I’m now 6 weeks post- surgery, I only just feel ready to return to yoga ( I was practising yoga daily pre-surgery, led an active, outdoors lifestyle on our farm so went into surgery quite fit and strong). I’m sharing this with you to reinforce what you, wisely, advise frequently in this video…everybody is different, everybody’s recovery is different and just because this video is titled for weeks 1-3 of recovery, week 1 can come at different times for everybody, not necessarily the week after surgery! Just when each individual is ready for week 1. Thank you for the video, I look forward to regaining my strength and confidence with you. Namaste 🙏

Joy, thank you sister. I’ve had a panninectomy & abdominoplasty with total muscle repair. It’s been 3 weeks + 1 day post op & today was the first day I could practice along side your video. Thank you! I found your video pre-op & have been so emotional when I wasn’t ready. I’m here now, and this is correct. Thank you, thank you so much. Every word you spoke resonated with me. Each breath you guided us in led me through tears, deep healing breaths, and ultimately back to self. I remembered today that I am a healer of self. I love you, thank you sister. Your work has led me to feeling closer to finding myself whole again. Love love love so much love & gratitude! For anyone reading, post-op can be so scary, so isolating, so overwhelming. Please, breathe. Breathe. Deeply breathe. Smile. Breathe again & trust that everything you need is already inside. Listen to that glorious body of yours, you will guide yourself. Thank you 🧡☮️☯️

This is great Joy. Thank you. I will recommend your channel to the consultant. There really wasn't much guidance from the Nhs website. I walked as much as I could to begin. Getting into and out of bed was the worst thing during the first 2-3 weeks. Only did it when I had to.

Hey Cea, thank you for your feedback! That's really lovely to hear that you appreciate this series I'm bringing out. I think the first 3 weeks are the hardest! When I had abdominal surgery, years ago, I wasn't given any advice at all! Not even a leaflet. Getting out of bed was the worst (and coughing). I didn't even know I wasn't meant to drive myself home until after the surgery... I had to call someone to pick me up and sort out my car later. Very odd! So I felt inspired to help others with their recovery through gentle yoga practices. I wonder if your consultant will find my videos helpful - I hope so! It could be really useful and supportive for people to have a playlist to turn to. Thank you for supporting my channel and your lovely comments 💛🙏💛

Hi Joy, This series looks fantastic! So nice to see something so focused in an area I’ve struggled to find information on. I noticed that it is for many abdominal areas, do you believe it would be useful for recovery post liver transplant? Not really an abdominal surgery but a large amount of abdominal trama to access the liver. I’m really struggling to find things that don’t include twisting, or using my abdominal.

Thank you for this. I am three weeks post-op yesterday and I feel like my body is doing amazing. I used to practice yoga some, but like everything else my work and life got in the way. Since my surgery I have a new appreciation for my body and the phenomenal job it is doing healing. I am determined to take better care of it. I have been eating better, going for walks, and honoring me. Then I found this... It felt so good to be on my mat. Thank you Joy!!

I'm so pleased to have stumbled on your channel. You have a very calming and reassuring way of speaking. I've had a subcutaneous onlay repair of diastasis and 3 hernias up my midline, after a treatment injury from another procedure last year. Its been really gutting - i was an athletic guy before and very into gymnastics rings. That is my ultimate goal getting back to those. I didn't realise it would be safe to do leg raises like this so soon after surgery. I'm nearly 4 weeks out and still in quite a bit of pain where my stitches are. Any coughs or sneezes have been excruciating. I'll try and give some of these movements a go. Thank you for your generosity

Hey Micah ☺️ I'm so sorry that you've been through such a tough time and especially as someone so into athletics and gymnastics. Surgery really can be a double edged sword. I'm pleased you've found these videos, though please only do what you can as everyone's body, surgery, healing is so different. If you're in too much pain you might need to leave some movements out. Even just the breathing would be good - only being in other movements when you can. I do have another 12 week series which offers one video per week, so it might be better to use week 1 of that series and move up from there. It means you'll be going at a more targeted pace (moving up in stages week by week). Let me know how you go! Love and healing blessings 💗🌿✨

Thank you Joy for this yoga practice. I had a bowel resection on December 28th with a foot if small intestine, Appendix, and some of my large intestine as well. I have severe Crohn's disease. I wanted to he proactive in my recovery and build strength. Because of the way Crohn's causes the scar tissue to grow differently and attach to anything I have felt this yoga practice kept my body more in tune with me. I appreciate your smiles and warmth in your words. You reflect the kind of self compassion needed for recovery, how to tune in to the body, and being mindful. Hi Nicoline - have you found the post abdominal surgery playlist? ru-vid.com/group/PLap6D_DFf94VH35zdv1FKO2G7mOJCwcgc There is a 12 part series on there and some are more stretchy and less about building core strength. I know it probably doesn't apply here, but was unsure where to ask. First off, the reason i ask, is because you helped me SO MUCH after my cancer hysterectomy. I was moving so much faster (and without pain) as I should have been (ok, some typical pain, but even with addison's disease & other autoimmune diseases, I healed so well and so fast and you helped me feel like I was doing something proactive without injuring myself). Anyway, the surgery of the year this year will probably be another cervical fusion - with more to it, the last never fully healed, back in 2016, and they think its probably due to type 1 diabetes- but I also never had PT like my husband did, so I don't know. now more disks above & below into spine have degenerated a bit. (Its affecting arm/shoulder movement big time). I am looking for what is safe to do after, because I want to make sure this heals.my mother's bones are powder and she is barely functioning in nursing home. Her spine collapsed maybe 5 years ago? and they had no choice but cement to build it back up, during the hospital stay for that, it collapsed again, and they were afraid to ever try again. She has 2 hips, 1 shoulder and 1 wrist replaced. - still going, her brain is pretty sharp, even with a little dementia, at 90- but she never ever exercised. (my sister is older down me and going far down that road). I have enough wrong and have tried so hard to atleast take care of muscle and bone. Organs are giving out, but i'm doing what I can. Anyway, are there practices or recs for what I can do in the weeks/ months following that kind of surgery? I thought, if nothing else, I can atleast do some of the post abdominal surgery practices because they were so gentle and on back (I will probably be elevated tho, duh. I know to listen to my Dr, but any suggestions other than that, and since I don't know when yet, anything I can do to prepare beforehand (I guess core strength, but I am so weak with arms/shoulders, hard to get on floor tight now) Sdly, I've just been doing recumbant bike, walking fur baby, and using a vibration plate (In hopes of loosening joints and moving lymph and circulation). Even if all you can do is guide me to complete programs for weirdo bodies like mine, or videos, or whatever. I thankyou so much for helping me thru the past few years and teaching me to work and be gentle with myself at the same time. You should do adrenal programs because the one I joined was so hard on my joints (because of this issue) and was mostly stretching. I think it was for those who come from being very active and have to slow down. Might prove good if this issue gets resolved, later. Thankyou and so many blessing to you. (sorry so long)

Hi Jen ☺️ Firstly, I want to apologise for taking sooooo king long to get back to you. I made the mistake of wanting to answer your comment thoroughly and then it got lost amongst the RU-vid muddle. Wow! You're going through a lot and have all the inherited family health issues to consider too. I know about that one! If this reply isn't too late, I would say to use the post abdominal surgery videos again, as I haven't made any for your specific surgery. You'll just need to modify the postures so you don't hurt your back or anywhere else that is feeling fragile. When you mention adrenal videos, do you mean for calming the nervous system and reducing stress in the body? I will be making videos for this, as this is an area of personal interest for me and is important for my family too. I really believe that most people in our fast-paced societies need help to calm our nervous systems. I will link some with post surgery too. Let me know how you're getting on and I'll answer more quickly this time! Sending you lots of love and healing blessings 🙏🪷✨

@@YogaWithJoy Perfect timing!! My surgery is this coming Tuesday!! And I really appreciate you taking the time, rather than just saying, "I'm not a Dr"- which is what everyone on earth says. With you, and a surgery recovery supplement I was taking, I didn't have ANY of the problems all the videos I watched said to expect after a hysterectomy (except the shoulder gas, that was rough, lol!!) But I did your practices and walked and I was moviing around and not taking pain meds, soooo quickly, so I know you must really care about how the body works - in and out. The ones I am supposed to ask things of, don't know anything about movement or anything natural to feel better, they only seem to know meds- and I am on too many out of necessity and its destroying my kidneys, so I'm very careful about pain meds. I am excited to see the adrenal stuff!! I have Addison's disease (and I think hashi's and diabetes cause extreme fatigue as well)./ I don't know what I'll be able to do sitting in chair or elevated bed with no bending or twisting, so I'll walk a bit till I can. Then hopefully I can start other things. Bless you and thankyou so much

So glad I found this series. A month ago, I had emergency (i.e. I was going to die) Right Hemicolectomy when my bowels suddenly twisted. :( It all happened so fast, and the hospital/surgeon gave me zero info about even how to safely get in/out of bed, how to sit up/lie down, how to cough while holding a pillow, etc. Nothing. I've had to google everything and listen to my body. I was very active (inc daily yoga) before, and now I NEED to get my body and muscles set up for success moving forward with healing. The only pelvic floor physical therapist near me doesn't have availability for 3 months. So thank you thank you for offering this!! You are filling a void for many of us.

Starting today with your series! This felt good. 5 days post- op (I had exploratory laparoscopy, 4 incisions, some adhesions taken down from a big mesh I had put on in my abdomen a year and a half ago. So this has been a fairly small surgery)

Hi Sil ~ I remember the mesh! I hope this surgery has helped. I also have the other 12 week series in case you want to mix and match (the one with a new video each week). I really hope you recover well and have time to rest. Sending lots of love 🙏💗

I have surgery this coming Tuesday and I am glad I found something like this that engages not only healing for the muscles that were disturbed, but also the relaxation of my mind as well.

Hey Ranae - lovely to hear from you! Sorry for slow reply - have you had your surgery yet? I hope it went smoothly. How are you feeling? Have you found the playlist for after abdominal surgery? I've got a 12 week series on there that has 'week 1' after surgery - it might be better for the first week. This is a beautiful, gentle practice. I had a laparoscopic surgery 8 days ago. It's so gentle, I wish I had started on day 4 - it would have helped my circulation after anesthesia. And you really can decide to just lie there if any movement feels like it is too soon for you.

Hey Mary, sorry for such a slow reply! I'm really happy these videos helped you. How are you feeling now? Have you recovered well? Also, if your surgery was related to women's health - eg hysterectomy, ovarian cysts, endo, pelvic floor repair, etc - then would you be up for chatting with my on zoom to help with some research? I'm speaking with women about their pelvic/core health. Let me know if you can help... Here's the link you schedule a call: calendly.com/yogawithjoy/60min With love and healing blessings 🧡🍁🍂✨

Thank you for sharing this. The exercises are great and helpful. Your guidance is well instructed too. Thank you. The mic being so close to where you swallow is a bit distracting for me though 😬. And the fly buzzing around your mic 😂. Looking forward to working through these first 3 weeks and moving into phase 2.

Hi Susie 💚 I'm so pleased you found this video helpful! Yes I'm sorry about the sound... The first two of these videos in the series I had the mic turned up too loud! So you can hear everything like swallowing, breathing, an annoying fly! It's a real pain. Phase 3 & 4 don't have this problem. One day I'll re-film them all at a better quality. Have you found the playlist for all my post abdominal surgery videos? Here's the link in case you need it: ru-vid.com/group/PLap6D_DFf94VH35zdv1FKO2G7mOJCwcgc Sending love and healing blessings ✨⭐✨

3 weeks post op hysterectomy & bowel resection due to “possible cancer”…. All turned out to be benign thankfully!! Loving these videos Joy, as someone that had a daily yoga practice pre-op and was dreading the loss of my fitness. In Australia, where there was also little/no advice given on recovery and return to exercise.

This is just what I needed, Joy! Thank you! 🙏 I am 5 months post op and I have not gotten my flexibility back; like you said every body and every surgery is different. I look forward to going through each video in your series as I gain strength. The exercises you guided in this video were helpful because I didn’t know what to do on my own. You are so kind and nurturing- much needed for those of us who have been through a lot recently. Thank you!!!

Hi Meghan, it so lovely to hear from you, thank you for your comment 😊 yes, it's so important to go at your own pace... It can be quite a while after surgery, injury or birthing that we need the most gentle and subtle strengthening and stretching. I really hope these videos support you to build up strength and flexibility. Have you found the whole playlist for other post op videos too? Thank you for sharing this gentle yoga practice. I’m thankful to have found it as I am recovering from another surgery due to ovarian cysts. I felt overcome with emotion and suddenly tears came to my eyes as I laid in the final resting pose as I placed my hand on my abdomen. I could feel the healing energy. You are lovely. Thank you again. ❤️

Hey Amber - so lovely to hear from you! Thank you for your sweet message and for sharing so openly about your experience. It's really heart-warming to hear about your connection with your body after surgery... so important that we take this time to reconnect with our bodies - ourselves! - and allow time and space to recover and heal. Surgery of this kind can feel pretty invasive (as you know), especially if you've experienced health issues also. Have you found the 12-week yoga after surgery series that is being released on my channel? We're up to Week 7 at the moment - so the early weeks are there ready for you if you'd like to try them out. Let me know how they are for you. Lots of love and healing blessings to you 💛🌺🌿🌾
