Phasmophobia 101: The Ultimate Beginner's Guide

Thank you for this! I played last night with my friends on their stream so they were too busy to teach me anything. I was trying to record the ghost with the video cameras. I didn't know what was significant to winning, so I'd randomly call out weird shit. I didn't know you could use the journal to learn stuff like the ghosts name.. OR that you could click evidence and it would rule out ghosts for you... I was reading the bestiary at the back and trying to memorize which ghost did what and figure it out manually, all while just standing around inside the house! I still feel like I'm not entirely sure how to tell when it's just a ghost event or when it's hunting.. I panicked my friends a lot by randomly yelling "It's hunting!" lol I didn't know I needed to hide. When I figured that out I didn't know the ghost could hear/see me and tracked my movement, or that I had to turn off my equipment! One time I was hiding in a closet and I thought I saw the ghost open the door so I held it shut, but I think it switched and opened the other door instead, can it do that? Should I have been juggling holding each door? lol I died every single game! lol

Just started playing! Your videos help SO MUCH. Honestly I still get way too scared to finish playing most of the time but knowing what to do helps me a lot. Thank you!

Game has changed since this video. These days you are locked in to only play unlocked maps, and only on amateur or custom modes. Can't even do intermediate until level 10. You also have a thermometer, but no camera and the starter gear is vastly different than yours shown here. Forget about any equipment upgrades until level 19.

oml the parts after you figured out the ghost type creeped me out so much. just acting so casual while a ghost is trying to murder you is frightening.

Ive had a few frustrating moments where i couldnt tell the ghost was hunting cause i was relying on basic information (and one freak time where the evidence was literally just wrong, but i assume that was a one off bug that shouldnt keep happening🤞) so ive died a lot to just not knowing all the nuances or having the practice - youve helped so many of us noobs ❤

Funny little tidbit, my wife's sister got my wife started on this game which then she told my wow classic guild that she plays now I found out a ton of the guild plays and now we all play phasmaphobia and wow LOL..

You are quickly becoming my favorite Phasmo player! After watching this and a couple other of your videos, we can finally play without being scared senseless and survived our first hunt lol. My DA forgot to turn off my flashlight in a locker and I’ve never shut a door so fast in my life before.

Great video! This game always frustrated me because I could never quite figure out what was going on. Now it looks fun.

For the new players that wanna get better fast, some ghosts have different abilities, like the Obake can shape shift and leave a 6 fingers fingerprint and also leave a 2 finger mark on a light switch, Poltergeist can make an explosion if you place a bunch of objects in a pile which also drops your sanity by 5% per object, Jinn can zap your sanity by I think 25% and try to turn off the breaker which the Jinn can NOT do. Some ghosts also have something called a forced evidence which the ghost have to give you if it is that type of ghost. The ghosts that have forced evidences is the Obake that needs fingerprints, Hantu that have freezing, Deogen and Moroi that have Spiritbox and Goryo have DOTS, so no matter if you play with 3 evidences or just 1, if you have one of these ghosts they have to give you their forced evidence. So if you play with 1 evidence and you get for example ghost writing, then you can cross off Deogen. However, The Mimic is an exception, because no matter how many evidences you have, The Mimic will ALWAYS give orbs because it’s not an evidence for The Mimic, it’s an “forced” ability. So even on 0 evidence you WILL get orbs from The Mimic. Also some pro tips if you play with 0 evidence, does the ghost step in salt you can cross of Wraith, Wraith can not walk through salt, if the ghost makes an event and you take a picture of it and it says ghost but the picture is clear with no ghost in it, then you can cross off Phantom, a Phantom can not be seen in pictures, Poltergeist can use it’s ability to make the explosion with objects, does the ghost turn off the breaker then you can cross off Jinn because Jinn can not do that, does the ghost turn on a light then you can cross of Mare, but if you turn ON a light and it immediately turn off the light, then it IS probably a Mare, Mare also likes to make an event that breaks the lights in the room, if you see a cloud thing moving towards you and then make “haaaa” whisper sound, then you can cross off Oni because Oni can not do that, if the ghost all of a sudden changed ghost room then you know that it’s not a Goryo because the Goryo can not do that. If you have the Ouija board as the cursed possession, then you can ask for the age and then spend some time near the ghost room and then ask again, if it got older, then you know it’s a Thaye because Thaye is the only ghost that can age when you are near it. You can also check on the sanity screen when the ghost tries to hunt, if it is at around 50% then you can cross off Deogen and Shade because the Deogen can ONLY hunt when you are below 40% and the Shade when you are below 35% however, if you are at low sanity and the ghost tries to hunt when you are in the ghost room, then you can cross off Shade because the Shade can not hunt when you are in the same room no matter how low your sanity is. You can also check if you have a Moroi by using the parabolic microphone. When you hear the ghost in it, check your sanity and remember it then go in to a room where the light is turned on. If you still lose sanity then you know you have a Moroi, if you don’t lose any sanity then you can cross off Moroi. If you get a hunt and you notice that the ghost gets faster near an electronic equipment you know you have a Raiju. If the ghost is super fast in the ghost room but slow in the rest of the house then you know you have a Hantu because the speed of it depends on the temperature of the room. The Thaye and Hantu have 1 thing in common and that is that they can not speed up when you are in line of sight. If you are brave enough to be in line of sight and you notice that the ghost is slow and then gets super fast when it sees you, then you know you have a Revenant. If you happen to have candles and a lighter, you can test for an Onryo by placing a lit candle near the crucifix. If it blows out the candle 3 times and it uses the crucifix, then you know you have an Onryo. If you are breave enough to loop the ghost and you see that it changed it’s shape, you know you have an Obake but it’s only 6,66% that it will shape shift. You can find out if the ghost is a Banshee by using the parabolic microphone, there is a 1 in 3 chance that it will do a scream that only the Banshee can do. But it’s not 100% that you will get the scream within those 3. It might take up to 7 or more. The Twins can be tricky on 0 evidence. There is a sloe twin and a fast twin. The slower twin moves at 1.5m/s and the fast twin at 1,9m/s compared to a normal speed ghost that moves at 1,7m/s but once you hear it, it gets easier to figure it out.

personally i’m very very much struggling with telling the difference between a ghost event and when it’s hunting, i have encountered doors closing but no hunting just an event so how am i to know when to smudge bc half the time it ends up just being an event other times i die bc i thought it was an event

How do you know it's a hunt? Or not? In the beginning when you heard your heart beat. Is that not a hunt?
