I add my voice to the trending topic about which of the 2, a PhD in Ghana or a foreign passport, is more beneficial.
I specifically speak to the argument made by those in favor of a foreign passport on the basis of exchange rate and minimum wage.

Your analysis is totally flawed. I don't get it when people in abroad think those in Ghana has no expenses at all. I know someone who works in oil in Gas in Ghana and earns more than gh10,000 cedis a month. At the of the month, with all expenditures he has less than 3000 cedis left. do u know why. He uses a Honda Civic, he fills full tank weekly and which is about 1000 ghana a week, thats 4000 a month. he has three kids attending an international school in Accra, school fees alone every term( 3 to 4 months) for the three is over 10,000 cedis so lets say 3000 cedis from his monthly salary. Chop money for the family has not been deducted, prepaid has not been deducted. feeding fee for his kids every day has not been deducted etc. by the time you are done with the calculation you realize your 10000 cedis is nothing to write home about unless you live in a remote area in ghana. Now you are comparing the 10 000 cedis the lecturer earns to $2000. The argument is not even about how much one earns, it's about the privileges you get as a Canadian compared to the privileges one gets after attaining the highest pinnacle of education in Ghana. No better roads, poor healthcare, filthy places with no proper environmental hygiene. But do you know why these passports are powerful, if you are smart, it will open lots of doors that the Ghanaian PHD can never open? That's the fact. People should stop making it look like those in Ghana get salaries and have no expenses. As a matter of fact food commodities as at now are expensive in Ghana compared to Canada and this alone speaks volumes.

Lol, at least he has some left. Noone earning $2000 in Canada with similar expenses will even have a place to lay his head. Drive a car which u fill weekly, plus 3 kids? Day care alone costs like CAD1300-2000 MONTHLY. Noone said pple in Gh has no expenses, we ve all lived in Ghana before. Bt that's y it makes sense to compare pple with similar conditions, not a single guy n another with kids. Ask pple u know abroad, y they are always serious abt building houses n all. Cos it's their dream to save enough to come back home n live de rest of their lives. All those benefits u talking abt, they don't care cos they r giving dem up to come back home. It's only pple who have not travelled n experienced it who thinks highly of all those things u talking abt.

@amohsamuel Who said daycare in Canada cost $1300 to 2000 monthly. Another false claim. You are using ontario daycare to generalize the whole of Canada lol. Lived in Montreal. I moved from Montreal in 2022 and my rent was $800 a month for a whole family of 4 with a nice apartment. I paid $ 190 $ a month for day care an amount I will pay more in Ghana if I want my son to enjoy the same environment in Ghana. Don't use ontario or toronto for every standard in Canada and who even said its everyone in abroad dream to to build and move back ...that is a huszzlers dream and sort of thinking. Most of the people only think aba that for retirement. When I came years ago and within the first years going through the stage of finding my feet, I had the same mentality. I have colleagues making over 10 000$ monthly without doing hard labour. I live in Canada and work in the US as a profeesional and my wife works in canada as a ptofessional n our morgage is just 2500$ for a whole house with over 2KSF. FYI the life n comfort we get here can never be dreamt of in Gh comparing us to our colleagues back home. GHana make hard pass anything unless u are engaging in dubious staff. *fact* It favour's only those in high positions whiles tge rest of the population struggles with no hope for the youth. It's aba tike we should stop sugar coating it as that isn't helping our situation back home. We ve all stayed in Ghana and lived here... It's often people who moved here months ago and who only looks up to the people that failed abroad that thinks along that line.

So what exactly is ur point here? Tell me where I got it wrong. Can someone earning $2000 here in Canada compare their life to another earning 10,000gh in Ghana? Assuming they are both single and have similar life circumstances. Not one single n the other with children.

What you are saying is not true,I have lived in the Netherlands for 23 years, minimum wage there is almost 14 euros .after tax u can take home 2000 euros and 2000 euros is about 33000 gh.so if u are single u can save like 1000 euros per month .so in Netherlands u can survive with just eight hours,that’s the power of Europe
@Lifeexperiences247
@Lifeexperiences247 13 дней назад
You even added that's the power of Europe when I used Canada n America as my eg. So that means you know that's not the situation in Canada so tell me where I lied. I can't argue with Netherlands cos I don't live there or know anything abt standard of living there. If that's the case, why then is almost everybody working 2, 3 jobs n almost the while day if 1 minimum wage job can make you live comfortably like someone earning 10,000gh in Ghana?

U hit the whole thing wrong. Get a better understanding and come again. He’s not talking about earnings alone but the totality of system including living standards and the value for human life.
@Lifeexperiences247

Your understanding is the problem here. I made it clear all other points make sense bt I am addressing 1 particular misconception. So u shld rather be telling me I got my analysis on that point wrong, not bringing in other factors I did not address.
