She was introduced to many of us on Season 4 of Rupaul’s Drag Race being the reality “villain” of the season, was promised a redemption arc in All Stars 2 and was once again the reality villain of the season, and has since shown the world that maybe it was just the edit. Her compassion for charity is phenomenal and her beautiful cosplay looks took her into the mainstream media. Her name is Phi Phi O’Hara and she’s about to be EXPOSED: Virtual Edition! #PhiPhiOHara #DragRace #Rupaul

People act like Rupaul is the messiah of drag. And yes, he has done a lot for drag, but he is not above criticism and he is not perfect. He isn't the be all end all of drag either. I respect him as an artist, and I'm a fan of the show, but I definitely watch it with a different perspective than i used to. The fact that Rupaul will only let trans queens on the show unless they are pre-transition or they pause transition, while allowing cis queens who have had a slew of feminizing surgeries shows his hypocrisy and transphobia. Jaremi is right, Rupaul doesn't give a shit about his contestants unless they are making him money. Look how fast he will turn his back on any queen who gives him a sliver of criticism or disagree with him. I think fame has gotten to is head. And i hope someday someone brings him down a few pegs. While i was sad to see Ben De La fo from AS3, i was happy for her because it was like a big fuck you to Rupaul when she eliminated herself.

I totally agree with all your points and I don't plan on adding more to the topic, the one thing I disagree with you about Ben Dela Creme was that, I feel like RuPaul didn't care about the elemination or did not take it as a big fuck you because it brought more attention, drama, etc and that was RuPaul wants. RuPaul wants money (so do I and many people so thats not an issue), they want fame, and to be remembered. And I think it has shown over the years and seasons. He doesn't care about the show as much ( i think now) because he knows that no matter what the fans will eat it up or maybe he does care but not enough or is only following what he is told, which I feel, he didn't 100% do in earier seasons. rupaul seems nasty when he doesn't get what he wants. it's such a shame because honestly, i didn't like phi phi! it worked on me! the editing can really screw someone. none of the fans really know what it's like to be on the show, so i think in terms of being vocal about "hating" a queen, we should all just shut up. it doesn't bring any good to send a human being angry messages. with that said, i'll still be watching drag race every season. it's a good show!

Sarah Anne They edit the show to fit the queens in a narrative they want to tell. Highlighting nasty comments from the ones that are going to be the bitches/divas/snakes of the season. It can really change the way we see them. I personally don’t think the editing is Rupaul’s fault. It’s bad to manipulate their character like that because they’re real people. And it can actually affect their reputations and jobs. But at the end of the day it’s entertainment. I mean, honestly, it wouldn’t be that fun without the drama.

I think about RuPaul as a person who has been in the 'industry' for decades so drag is a job to her at this point....I don't think she actually enjoys drag anymore but that's what he gets paid to do. Ru was more genuine in the earlier seasons w/ the queens (Raven, Latrice, etc.) and still has her faves (i.e. Vanjie) but I think she's pretty distant w/ the queens now. The trans thing (to me) is moreso a network issue and not a Ru issue (which is why she always redirects the conversation when trans issues are brought up). Until recently (w/ OITNB and Pose) trans people had to hide in the entertainment industry or they weren't getting jobs unless it was demeaning af. I think they'll showcase trans queens NOW because it's more 'socially acceptable' than it may have been before.

I would like to remind everyone that PhiPhi gave her phone call to Chad Michaels so the latter could talk to his partner. And PhiPhi even said that she wanted to win for that sole reason. Yeah, PhiPhi can be bitchy - but hey, with her past and her being a drag queen (throwing shade is a lifestyle, darlin'), it's understandable. She can get angry pretty easily too. She's not a villain, but it's pretty easy to paint her as one.

This is by far the best interview I've seen related to rpdg. I will be honest, i wasn't a Phi Phi fan watching season 4(despite admiring her pure talent, that was undeliable) , but over the years I've seen just what exactly the show does to make its contests look a certain way. The world is not black and white. You're not inheritly evil or good. But we can change. My favorite part was him owning up to who he was and the way he acted. It shows so much growth and responsibility, and i admire that so much. Jaremi, i don't think you'll ever see this, but i have gained so much love and respect of you as an artist and a person. Κωστής Σπηλιώτης I think she got too in her head about how she came across to the fans so that’s why she acted out in AS2. If she just have been herself or own the fact that she’s a bitch sometimes, people would’ve lived for it more.

Wow, he made me realize sooo many things that were on my face about the show and how drags are shown on it. I now have so much genuine respect for this queen. It's sad that most of us, the fans, as she said 'got stucked years ago'.

This really was a wonderfully illuminating interview. I love how Jeremy has taken control of his life and his career. I also love how he has insisted on separating his drag and his characters from the real person. SO many queens seem to lose themselves in their drag identity. Wishing all the best for Jeremy. 🙏🏼

I don't see any difference between the PhiPhi from S4 and AS2 and Jeremi in this interview. He wants to be seen as an angel when he's just like any other queen or person: he makes mistakes and he can be mean and say or do the wrong things, and that's fine! She will always be an iconic queen from two of the best RPDR seasons.

I always like her. She is the nicest queen I ever met. I met her at a Halloween party and I asked for an autograph and she was nice about it. Later I went to a Halloween VOSS Event and she was dressed as Bianca Del Río and I thought she was her, Phiphi’s craft is out of this world. Talent and craft all the way.

I think by disconnecting himself from Phi Phi he feels able to move on and all things he said/did in the past was just his character, not him. A very smart way to look at it, wish him the best.

I feel like you're still not getting it. He didn't really do anything that bad... he was just bitchy a few times on a reality TV show about a drag queen competition in order to make it entertaining to the viewers. He also said that at the time he did it because he liked the ideas of villains from comic books etc, which shows this disconnect from all the way back then. It's not like he was recently like "damn, I need to move on from that, I was bad back then" so he tried disconnecting himself - he knew what he was doing from the start (and as do all the other queens).

What a nice interview. I'm not a hardcore fan of RPDR, so I didn't know much of Jeremy beside his Phi Phi persona. It was such a nice interview, I always suspect that Sharon and PhiPhi were acting up and were secretly friends. I also felt uncomfortable watching All Stars 2, because the 'shady' editing was QUITE obvious. I still watch RPDR because is entertaining, but I don't take it too seriously.

Just got done watching this interview. Joseph, what an incredible job! Such great questions and I LOVE this format! I must admit that I did feel a certain type of way about her before watching this interview. I will say my viewpoint began to change for the better once I heard Phi Phi speaking on Alaska’s and Willam’s pod cast. And now, with this interview, I have full respect for her and understand her point of view. Thank you for another outstanding interview about an incredible and talented artist. :)

Loved seeing Jaremi get a chance to be open and honest. Going into Allstars 2, I was hoping that the show would portray a better side of her and was disappointed when they clearly didn't. Growing up in an abusive household is rough and the toll it can take on a human being is often long lasting. We should have gathered around her and loved her from the beginning because we know that often when people lash out, it comes from a deeper internal struggle. She's got such a heart and I hope everyone can see that now.

Season 4 of Drag Race was honestly the turning point for the franchise. The calm before the storm, before it really blew up. I’ve been watching since the second season and although 4 isn’t what DR is really known for, that was the first season shit really changed! I have to respect everybody that comes from that season, they helped build this franchise. All of those girls deserve their chips for that Season.

RuPaul has done so much and gave a platform to these queens so they shouldn't complain when being portrayed a certain way, and just be grateful that they were given exposure? Do not forget that RuPaul made money out of these queens, too. RuPaul is being raised to the level of being the Messiah of Drag, but she's doing this because of money. What made these queens famous is because of their talent, not because of RuPaul. RuPaul benefited from these queen.
@GrapeBird
@GrapeBird 3 года назад
So just because someone helps you elevate your platform doesn’t mean that you can’t criticize their actions? Nobodies perfect and if someone feels like criticizing that it’s within their right to do so. No one complains about this with Willam or Courtney Act when they did it. The Phi Phi O’Hara hate at times is just a large double standard and I’m not here for it.
@kellygreengables3936
@kellygreengables3936 3 года назад
@@GrapeBird I think they're saying the opposite of that. They ended the comment by saying RuPaul benefitted by making money off of the queens. The person pointed out that that the queens were talented prior to Drag Race and that their runs on the show financially benefit RuPaul. I think they're trying to make the point that the queens are talented and just because RuPaul profits off of them/gives them exposure doesn't mean he's not open to criticism.
