Phil Collins did more for drumming in the rock/prog/pop field than any drummer alive...his drums sound phenomenal...Chester's like 68 or close and he can still get around that massive kit...amazing.
Earl Brackett "did more for drumming in the rock/prog/pop field than any drummer alive" ??? Are u alive man ? it s joke !! what about; bonham, taylor ? Collins is an artist , a great artist but not the best or the most influencal drummer in this world. Bonham from led zep is !! sorry for my english, i m french keep rocking dude :)
look dude, there is no debate, you're comparing apples & oranges. I love Bonham, I saw Led Zeppelin in '77 on Bonham's birthday...but you sound like a "rock" only fan...obviously you've never listened to Genesis. but you should...go back to 1972, Watcher Of The Skies, a great place to start your re-education.and listen to Brand X, you'll think Tony Williams is on those records. there's a chasm between the great time keeping of Bonham and the prog-drumming of Phil. he was the driving force behind that market for 20 years.. Genesis are the greatest live band ever. watch/listen to Three Sides Live, no one can touch the performances & creativity of those guys. for 20 years they dominated the market and Phil Collins/Peter Gabriel reinvented the sound of studio drums.
I saw this concert when they came to Philadelphia,to experience this solo and they also played in the air tonight together was just awesome. The two amazing drummers in unison with the awesome acoustics in the venue made it an almost organic experience. Those that truly love and play music will understand.
Reguardless how you feel about your legacy as a songwriter in the 80's Phil. Or, how you accept the debilitating physical problems that you've had to endure. As a drummer, I will always remember how great you are. Right up there with all the fusion masters. But, you have a gift most of us don't have. You can sing. Don't squander it. Even if, maybe, one day you might tour again, Chesters' always got your back :-)
Many years ago in the 80's - in Melbourne, Australia, my wife and I were staying in a fancy hotel for the weekend. . Just a weekend away. . shopping, restaurants etc. In the evening, I went out the front of the hotel to hail a taxi for my wife and I to go to a restaurant for dinner with friends, and a guy came out of the hotel and stood right next to me. . . . .I turned to see who was standing there next to me. . . It was Phil Collins (obviously he must have been staying in the same hotel) I said "Oh. . hello Phil. . I'm a big fan of yours" He said "Thanks, mate. . are you coming to my gig tonight?" I said "No - unfortunately, my wife and I have other things we have to go to. We're going out for dinner now with some friends" (Actually I had NO IDEA that he was in town and performing!. . . Shame on me. . . ) Anyway, a little while later, a limo (naturally) pulled up - and just before he got in it to go to his gig, he turned. . . shook my hand and said. . . "Always nice to meet a fan. . Enjoy your dinner with your friends, and say hello to them from me" I said. . . "Thanks. . I will" Off he went in his limo. . About 30 seconds later, my wife came out and I said "You won't believe who I have just been talking to" You know what. . until we read in the newspaper a couple of days later, that Phil was in town for a solo tour. . . She DIDN'T believe me!!!" I. WAS. SO. ANNOYED that she didn't believe me until then. . Anyway. . I would say that Phil Collins is a nice guy. . a true gentleman. . AND ( to my darling wife of 46 years) YES I DID fucking talk to him!!
Saw Phil and Chester do this many years ago. It was a great experience. Two drummers playing in perfect unison and note perfect is a very difficult skill to master, it takes a keen ear and years of practice. Appreciate the skill please rather than arguing who is the best drummer in the world. You don't have to be the best to dedicate your life to making good music.
SilverTrowel631 yea i figured that 2 drummers was very difficult to keep the timing n what ever else goes with the set.sorry not much on the music lingo .i just know i only seen 1 other band do the 2 drummers n matter fact 2 guitars would be david gilmours pink floyd. seen motly crue tommie lee sounded good to me too but like i said im a normal ear they all sound great to me lol now martial arts for last 30 years i can critize.,but phill alays was known even in the 80's when i was a teen was a bad ass drummer..Just like nugent or slash ,eddie van halan e.t.c were all known as great guitarst whops forgot about randy rhodes but to my ear they sound pretty much the same idk xcept this one is faster or the other one makes strange noises and gilmour makes his talk idk there all great in my eyes lol..Hell even that girl Tina on this you tube i seen she can play just as good with the guitar as any of the top best and shes still a teen i think maybe older now but wow so much talent all around. not sure why phill is any better or any less than tommy lee but hey tommy played on a rotateing drum platform up above the audience upside down and all around n never missed a whack. But however when he went back to college he signed up for the drum corp in the band and he tottally sucked on those collage drum squads which even he was surprised and so was the the drum teacher who couldn't figure out how he was in one of the top bands in the rck hall fame and the title of one of the best rock bands in history.was very funny to waatch though but all in all they all would not be very successful and rich at what they do if nthey sucked lol..sorry for the misspelling this dam tablets going..Pce
Hello, yes me to, I got to see him play with Genesis in Houston Texas. Halfway through the show Phil Collins and his drummer from Genesis did a drum battle and it was awesome, it was overall a great concert!
Phil, my favorite drummer of all time. I played drums for years and now in my 70s i can not enjoy playing because of my health, my wrists are shot, my right ankle has 4 screws 3 1/2 inches long and when i get the need to play a little i suffer for few days. but, this kind of video with Phil goes to my heart, mind and sould. what a beautiful instrument.
I keep coming back again and again and watch this amazing performance. I would pay 500$ per ticket to see this performance. I would bring my family to enjoy an extraordinary and unique performance.

Mark Keith Unfortunately, I don't have time to be your school teacher buddy! Try googling "to each according to his contribution". Edit: I guess because it went over your head you didn't understand it was a JOKE :) Blame your education system..
