Phil Collins and his band conduct a soundcheck and then perform an early morning performance in NYC at Rockefeller Plaza for the Today Show. Nov 15, 2002.
And at 2:45, you all get to witness the greatest moment in my life; meeting Phil. A moment that is etched in my head these last 20 years. I can't believe there's video footage of it. #grateful
Happy to hear that this on video for you to see. I filmed this myself and was there from 230am in the morning lucky to be up front and also got to shake his hand and take a photo with him which I cut out of this video and treasure it forever.
@@Sillyo18 Awesome - yes, I too got a photo that morning (I remember it was like 430am!!) and it's my most treasured photo ever! Thanks again for posting this video, absolutely blew my mind to see me that young and actually living that moment.
The one & only Phil Collins..you know true talent when even the Sound check is brilliant! Hope he realises how much he is loved & appreciated by so many people. He has been the soundtrack to many of our lives for so long now & put into words many things we felt but didn't have the eloquence to say...
Such a natural actor, singer (never mind drumming and song writing) Getting old is cruel to us all,but we don't do it in the limelight. So today he might be unable to function/ perform as he did in this clip, but look at the catalogue of work he has done, all the memories he has created and happiness he has left us all as a performer. Thankyou sir.
It was not cause of drinking. After surgery, he could not use his fingers to play drums again. I heard the words from his mouth, in an interview.. Yes he wasted a good 5 years or so from heavy drinking. That is not why he can't play drums. We all will look different in our later years. Watch & see!!!
Admirable version of I can't stop loving you, such a spiritual song being played surrounded of those illuminated signs that give the news of the day in one of the most powerful cities of the entire planet, it gives me goosebumps!
Got to meet guitarist Daryl Stuermer and his band, keyboardist Kostia a day or so later if I recall at a small bar in Buffalo that they played a gig for literally 10-15 people. Both Daryl and Kostia were excellent to speak to and they made the trip over the border memorable to say the least. Daryl is a fantastic player to say the least - His work on tour w/Genesis, Phil, etc. is awesome but his solo work is excellent.
It’s from 2002 I was there with my son he was 5 we had a good day I have a picture of oil on the stage he signed at his book signing a week later . I showed him the pic he said is that was the show last week wow I look that bad lol and we took another picture all of us together. I still have it to this day .
It's been a rough 20 years for Phil. The years have taken their toll. I think back to the days of the '80s and you'd be hard pressed to turn the radio all the way through the FM channels and not find one of his songs on either with Genesis or solo. I hope he enjoys retirement.
@@mikenewbold1699 Sting and Phil are the same age. I saw Sting live 4 weeks ago and he was such an impressive performer who has looked after himself. Phil has had a tough time with his health since the Genesis tour of 2007.
Lunga vita a te Phil ❤
I miss this Phil.It was heart breaking to see him on the last Genesis tour.Cant stand, play drums and his voice is completely gone. The last twenty years have been very hard on him.
How cool is this.....cheers for the upload fella......gotta feeling me ol music box gunna get a thrashing today ....Phil gunna be blasting across these green hills in New Zealand🍺🤣👌🇳🇿.
Sklar was born in Michigan, where 46 is warm for mid-November.. Maybe the first few years sets your body's thermostat. It's pretty cool to watch, though.
Looks like Collins is in better health now! Before he was sitting a lot and it looked like he was going to keel over. I’m glad to see him standing and singing normally again! He sounds good here! 👏🏻 Thank God!
Alcohol, falling off the stage, back surgery and age is what did it for Phil. Getting old happens to us all. I’m glad he was able to share and experience his talent with the world.

I actually read the first comment where someone actually got to meet him at the 245 mark, and then I'm like and then they said it was the best 20 years in their life so far our best moment in 20 years. And I was like wait a minute what and then I looked at the date that it was actually filmed I was like oh man. I thought it was now lol. OK now go back to watching the video
