Summer '85. The Palladium, NYC. DJ sped up this extended mix, 4:19 - 5:00 minute mark, looped twice, through the super powerful sound system -- club went insane! Total freakin' bliss. Even without dropping a hit of ecstasy. True story!
1985-saw this on NYHT-New York Hot Trax. When I heard it, I thought of a very special girl I was crushing on in high school. I called her up, and because of this song and it's lyrics which made me think of her, I asked her to be my girl. She accepted. I picked up a ring and when I saw her at school that following Monday I gave it to her and it became official. When she asked me what made me ask her I told her she could thank Phil Collins. Her name was Carolyn, but I always called her either "Cee"or "Sue". She understood "Cee" as in Carolyn. But to this day, she never knew why I called her "Sue". Little did she know it was short for my favorite Phil Collins song of all time. Thanks Phil, and on behalf of my beguiled but beautiful 1st love, she thanks you too.

At the time when the song came out, it means "The one you love; one so dear." I guess you could say this is our generation's answer to The Music Man song "Shapoopi"
