Phil Collins is an absolute legend of the music world, a hard-drumming, ballad-crooning titan who may just be one of the most unlikely people to ever enjoy a superstar career as a musician. From Genesis to a successful solo career to side gigs working with other hugely popular rock stars, Collins was always the kind of person who never seemed to quit. But you might be surprised to learn that music wasn't always his first career choice. In fact, there are a lot of surprising details about Phil Collins that casual fans never knew. Here's a look at the untold truth of Phil Collins.

He is the type of person who is unafraid to share his personal feelings in song to the public. Much of his 80's "divorce ballads" whether it from his solo or Genesis output was based on his aftermath experiences from the break up of his first marriage. "In The Air Tonight" was the beginning of a length of songs that focused on that aftermath.

@@meyerj75 Ditto....we all have lessons to learn in life but feelings teach us those lessons.... Broken Promises You broke every promise that you ever made Maybe I'm a fool But I still loved you anyway I want to believe it wasn't just a game You broke my heart And I'll never be the same How could someone light up my life Then stab me in the back A cold blooded killer A train off the track I'll never let anyone do what you did to me I was blinded by love But drowned in a toxic insanity You had my heart on a string Pulling and pushing away I'd leave but you'd beg me to stay You'd apologize and do it all again I was just a sucker in love Our connection was everything I've ever dreamt of Broke more than your promises Took a piece of my heart Settled into darkness Before I fell apart I give you back all your pain Don't want it anymore It's not mine to bear And rotten to the core Trying to find my light that once shined so bright Before you put me under your spell Was once whole But now I'm just a shell You come around like an uninvited guest I just need you out of my head So I can finally rest

I said this about Genesis, but the same goes with the legendary Phil Collins, who literally carried my childhood. To the ones who call it an end of an era. Legends like these, never end. Think like it as a new chapter instead of an end. As they say; "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened." As I say, the same goes with Genesis. Who knows what the future holds. Phil has never failed to surprise us, and the inspiration and legacy he has is truly incomparable. To those lucky ones, who got to see him perform live, always cherish it and realize how lucky or privileged you were, because many would do anything to experience it. To those who haven't or never, don't feel ashamed, his music will always be apart of you, no matter what, live show or not, we all have our own ways of cherishing these legends, even if we don't got much. But honestly, A true inspiration he is, and for continuing espically in the condition he's in, and a massive thanks to his Genesis pals like Banks, and Rutherford for helping him out during this tour. Only sad thing, I feel about this, is how unfortunately singers like these wont ever exist anymore espically with how the industry has been, and the world has changed too, but atleast, we have some artists trying to get close too it or inspired from it. Wishing all the best for Phil Honestly and I hope the future brings many great surprises. Real shame he didn't get to tour at more places, but they did what they could with the conditions he was in. A sincere thank you for everything Phil, and Genesis, espically for carrying my childhood with your music, and soundtracks. Onto this new chapter we head too! Decades of inspiring, laughs, and passion, a legend forever. A Legacy that will always be kept alive.

Legend is a better description for him. He's extremely talented, and he has an amazing catalog of work, but looking at the women that he got with, and considering the amount of times that he seemed very drunk and/or on pills during interviews, I wouldn't say that "class" is a fitting term...

Phil Collins is definitely a classy, super talented icon. He has been my favorite artist solo and with Genesis since the early 80s. His songs got me through some dark times over the years. I am forever grateful to him for sharing his talents with us and loyalty to his fans. The pandemic pushed out this tour over a year. He could have decided to cancel but still honored his fans and rescheduled the gigs for us. I hope now that the tour is over, he can rest and heal. My biggest hope wish and prayer is for him to be happy, enjoy his children and grandchild and also hope he will be able to play his drums again. It has always been obvious, that is what brought him the most joy. I wish him well and send my deep gratitude for bringing me joy with his music and voice. He'll always '... be in my heart'. ❤💞

I’ll never forget on how I got into Phil Collins. As a child, I watched Tarzan. Years later, my Mom would play his 1990 Live album. Later in 2013, I used to listen to In The Air Tonight in a week once every morning when I woke up. Then I started to listen to more songs from him at 13. Later in 2014, I also started listening to Genesis! Phil Collins will ALWAYS be my #1 favorite singer and Genesis will always be my #1 favorite band! I am 21. Whenever I bring up old school music to customers at my job or if I see a Genesis shirt (it happened before), I would ask and talk about Phil or Genesis, and people would be shocked that I am a young man in the 2020s talking about Phil Collins and Genesis. The guy who wore a Genesis shirt jokingly said “you are too young to know or listen to them” lol. I love it when people get shocked when I talk about old school stuff lol. As for Phil, he is and will always be a legend in the music world! Forever grateful to be a huge fan! Thanks for making this video, guys!

If the commentator is stating Phil Collins did the singing for Led Zeppelin at Live Aid , then Yes , he's correct but i know it was 36 years ago but i thought it was Tony Thompson on the drums , as i havent watched Live Aid since tge very day it was recorded... Tony was a huge fan of Bonzo's drumming & sound & you can clearly hear that influence on the songs for the 1rst & 2nd Power Station album's & on Robert Palmer's hit album " Riptide " Even when he played with Chic or worked on songs that Nile Rodgers was writing or producing or both Tony Thompson & Bernard Edwards played on many of the solo artists at that time & you can hear some amazing playing on Diana Ross album " Diana " as she wanted a look & a sound that could fit in with the times & who better to deliver it that one of my personal favourite rhythm sections with Tony Thompson on Drums/Bernard Edwards on Bass & Nile on guitar & to think she argued like crazy about the song " Im Coming Out " As she felt the name implied that she was gay & Nile had to convince her that if she listens to the lyrics its about her breaking free from all ties from the music she sang on for Motown but her ladyship , who supposedly embraced her gay fan's , continued like the prima donna that she is & believe me this woman was nothing like how people thought she was like every since she was moved from singing within " The Supremes " to being the lead vocalist of the now Diana Ross & The Supremes & if anyone knws about that band knows that Diana was not the best singer in that band by far but because of her looks... How she couldn't see what Nile & Bernard had written for her in that single " Im Coming Out " i can sort of understand but even after being told time after time that it was written by Nile & Bernard as , of course , a statement song but not what she was thinking & it was as ive stated written about the new time of Diana Ross & how she was breaking free from any negativity aimed at her for being placed as the lead singer & now in the band now known as Diana Ross & The Supremes shows you she was not as she said she was as a caring person towards all of those who had various sexual preference... But enough about Diana... Even the members of Led Zeppelin agreed with Phil that they shouldnt hsve went with him as singer as even Phil didnt think he fitted in & like many acts that day , somr of thr combinations just didnt work but it was for the greater good & to raise awareness of those starving to death in Africa but on a side note , that country is always going to have many starving until they get leaders in who want tk helo the people instead of ripping off any money or foods they get for the starving & without sound crass they should do what they have in China & only be allowed one child for at least 10 years & then re-address the situation... If Phil Collins did sing & play drums with Led Zepplen then i'll neef to do a bit of online research as i thought it was Tony Thompson , as to me that made sense but then again both Tony & Phil had very powerful bonzo like sounds when playing drums... In light of this still ongoing coronavirus & its variants stay safe and healthy wherever you are in this world... .....

Guy has been snared by ill health which is trying to drum him into submission . He'll play the tempo his way though until the last beat of his heart.

Can't deny his talent. Never was a fan of his music... Genesis or solo. Seems like a decent guy, though. I'm sure he's sitting around worrying about my opinion. ;)

Not a huge Phil Collins fan myself, but rate some of his songs highly, especially Land of Confusion (Genesis) great song, great video.
