True but that is not relevant and does not address the issue. He has a point, I don't buy that Ike is masking for health reasons, or to "protect loved ones".
I don't really care about the covid aspect to this argument, but I actually do disagree with you only because tons of us wear sunglasses at the table. Maybe I am biased because I am always wearing sunglasses and a bucket hat at the table when I play and if the floor allows I'll wear a hoodie. Its normal to do things like this to protect your edge so the other players can't get a read on you. I'm not the only one, I feel like lots of us do this, so why can't he wear a mask?
So for the exact same reasons you also want to ban sunglasses hats hoodies and scarves? If the answer is no then there's no reason to take your argument seriously.
@@RookiezYThow is Ike's mask bad for the game but sunglasses hoodies scarves and hats aren't? Keep in mind all of these things serve the exact same purpose, to cover up facial tells. Also what if Ike lives with someone who has cancer and has a weakened immune system? Then his mask would actually serve a purpose as opposed to just wearing a hat sunglasses hoodies or a scarf. So the argument for allowing a mask is even stronger than for any of those other things.
Hellmuth played much better back in the day when he used to wear his sunglasses. We just did a video on his amazing plays and most of the time he is hiding his face.
Sun glasses serve the same purpose and have been and still are a part of poker. Hell I remember seeing Ivey use sunglasses way back when 😂 Or what about Phil Locke "The Unibomber" where he would wear sunglasses and oversized hoodies. If Phil was really sincere he would also be in favor of banning hoodies and sunglasses as well. But to even insinuate that any of Ikes success is realated to wearing a mask, especially against the level of competition he plays is unbecoming of Phil.
Hey Phil, what about these a-holes that roll in to the poker table extremely sick coughing and sneezing on other players? Say what you want about Covid but there are some nasty ass colds out there that people willingly have no problems giving to others because they wanna gamble. Before anyone wants to say "the mask doesn't actually help" I didn't have a cold for 2 years while playing with a mask, it helps. I play without a mask because it's more comfortable but nothing is worse than having a dude sit next to you sniffling, coughing, and sweating everywhere. I had Covid once but i've had some really gnarly colds put me out for a couple weeks from other players.
Imagine telling someone that what they are doing is bad for poker while you are nursing a short stack in a high stakes live stream game. Hellmuth is the epitome of the pot calling the kettle black. And how does he know that Ike doesn't have someone in his family that is immunocompromised? Ike could just be trying to keep his loved ones safe. People need to mind their own damn business.
Wearing a mask is shutdown multiple ways, either hes exploiting it , or he thinks it's still dangerous to be out, which means he shouldn't be out at all and gambling is a degen thing if you're protecting health. Dudes a loser either way

To the people saying “if a mask is banned then why not ban sunglasses, hats, etc…” here is why; we have to draw a line somewhere, If you’re going to allow a mask that covers your entire mouth, nose, part of your throat, cheeks, etc.. why can’t I show up in one of those “scream” masks that covers my entire face/neck?
And for Ike to pretend like it has anything to do with “COVID” I mean come on…. It’s for the edge and everyone knows it. If he’s really that concerned about COVID he wouldn’t be PLAYING CARDS WITH 1,000s OF STRANGERS.
What about the fact that Phil Hellmuth was the face and poster boy of the Ultimate Bet poker site that stole over 40 million dollars from poker players and never received any backlash. Let's ask his opinion on that
All these clowns like Negreanu, Hellmuth, Bonomo, Haxton, etc, from yesteryear in the poker boom only play in 'high roller' events where they play against the same people over and over, in fields with likely less than 100 people in them, because they cant win a bracelet anymore in tournaments with 500 plus people, unless they admit that luck has more to do with their success than any skill, which would ruin their entire narrative about poker supposedly being some type of skill game. If Hellmuth could read people like he claims then a mask wouldnt make a difference in a person mannerisms overall. Haxton has been on a heater and taking home the cash and people are getting tired of handing over their money to a luck box.
The reason successful players don't play massive fields is A. It takes far too much time for a good return. B. Luck does play more of a factor C. They want to challenge themselves against the best, since beating morons who shove every top pair they hit gets monotonous. Among many others. I've literally never heard any of those players say luck is not a factor in poker, which it obviously is, hence the famous phrase Better lucky than good. And yes, wearing a mask can absolutely reduce tells. People make tons of involuntary movements they don't recognize that great poker players pick up on. Ike has been on a heater, but Hellmuth barely plays ANY of those tournaments. Let alone calling one of the best players in the world a luckbox shows exactly how little you know. According to PH, live tells are covered by the mask. He covers his face mid hand with his hands, BUT he explains you can see his face the minutes before a hand and after a hand. That’s when it’s useless for poker tells. So really his gripe is that Ike’s face is covered before and after each hand as he clearly covers his during many hands. 🤔 The victory photos where Ike is sitting by himself with the mask on are pretty silly imo though.
Both my wife who is in the medical profession, and my daughter have gotten the first shots, but not the later iterations. Both have had Covid twice now, and the first one transferred to me. I am highly at risk due to health, and age, but did fine taking about a month to recover. This latest round of Covid just occurred, I disinfected (Clorox Disinfecting Wipes) everything I touched that they may have touched, and it's been 3 weeks now I have avoided it this time around. I did not get the shot as I had a very bad reaction to the last inoculation I received about 20 years back. It's unfortunate that some are more affected by this virus than others, it's a lot like Aids, some won't have symptoms or be affected by it, others will die! I know what the experts say about wearing a mask, but I feel it does provide a modicum of protection however small. The more layered, and finely woven masks offer better protection while wearing an KN95 surgical masks offers the best protection. Any mask is better than no mask so whatever Ike is wearing is up to him, and having no bone in this fight, I don't care whether he wears a mask or not! I will say, Ike may have ulterior motives other than to hide tells such as a family at high risk, he himself at risk, and doesn't want to explain, or expose his health issues. Also, maybe Ike has a tell around the mouth area, movement, shaking etc., and now Phil can't read him anymore? Unlikely, but if that's the case Phil, speak up? 👍😎✌🗽
Every medical professional I ever talked to about masking has basically told me the same thing. You mask up if you yourself are infected/sick, or if you think you are. Masking is to prevent YOU from spreading your germs to others. Masking does very little if anything to prevent you from catching viruses from others, since transmission happens primarily by you touching things with your hands, and then putting your hands to your face. But if you see datasets that show that masking slows transmission during a pandemic even by 2 or 3%, then that might be enough for legislators to decide that it's a good idea to require it. Taking the "all the little measures add up" type of approach to public health & safety.

As stupid as masks are, and as much as I’m not an Ike fan… Ike’s right. He should be allowed to wear a mask if he prefers. We don’t ban costumes that cover your face and there is no different so Ike’s right
I wear a mask when I play specifically for that purpose and I do so openly. I ain't scared of COVID, I specifically do it to hide my face. It's no different than wearing sunglasses, when there is no sun inside a room😂
@@ScottD-q9p I am on board if that person wore a mask BEFORE covid, but if they only use that logic afterward then it doesn't make sense. Germs didn't just recently pop into existence and the flu has been around forever.
I dont mind masks and Ike but also I don't wanna see these quiet stoic ppl play on TV either. Where your mask just put them off camera. They add no value in entertainment anyways
Hellmuth rarely plays or makes it deep in high-stakes tournaments so whatever Ike does should not affect him in the least, I suspect that as ever Phil is lacking the attention he desperately craves and this is just another way of getting it without having to buy into a high end game.

If i were in a tournament with him i would just wear a mask or something on my face too...because its clearly an edge and ike is already so good so why would i want to give him that extra
Playing with a short stack in big games gives you an edge as well. Especially when the only reason you get invited to those games is because you’re a big name in poker like Phil.
When you show the vpip chart one cannot even pause the video to read it. If you are going to show data at least give the viewers enough time to read it.
There are thousands of Compulsive Gamblers in Poker, Phil is smart enough to avoid crazy games, thus is why he has a stable marriage and homelife. I can name 200 players that had 1 mill and went broke. I admire the likes of Hellmuth, Negreanu, Mercier, Holz who all play very little and stay on top.

True, but that doesn’t count in his mind because having your face uncovered at one point in the tournament and the cover it for a hand is a tell as far as he’s concerned. I would agree mostly, and a fully covered face throughout the tournament is distinctly diff. He’s talked about it in the past varing his posture, expressions, hand pacing etc to mix up his “tells” because he thinks it’s a factor for some people in leveling wars. Even though it shouldn’t matter and disagree with Phil on Ike needed to take off the mask. And fuck that guy😂

One of the stupidest comments Phil has made, and he has made MANY over the years. Phil famously covers his mouth with his hand so it's ridiculous to call out people for doing the same damn thing.
While I think he 100% has the right to wear the mask, the only portion of Phil's take I agree with is it's bad for poker. I have tried to watch at least 3 FTs with Ike in them and always tune out because it hurts part of what makes live poker enjoyable to watch for me personally. That being said, it's always funny to see comments of people calling him Vaxton lol
I'm fine with that as long as there's consistency in the argument and the application of the rules. If someone has never complained about hats sunglasses scarves or hoodies but they're complaining about surgical masks then I can reasonably assume they're a hypocrite who's trying to passive aggressively push a political agenda.
Why are some players more tolerable than others. Sometimes its just the personality. Its true that IKE has been on a heater. Why? or how? It can be analyzed and checked to see if there was was some changes in his game. Someone mentioned the same people playing the same tournaments, if this is true then that does fit for a possible narrative of the same people not playing the same way against IKE
I find it amusing that little newbs like Berkey or that Ike guy have even the audacity to speak to all time bosses like Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu or Tony G. Get 17 bracelets in 3 different poker decades and then you can talk to the big guys, not when you milk some mindless millionaires in some lose high stakes cash games for some years, just to disappear or get broke.
