People don't give Phil Jackson enough credit because he coached Jordan, Pippen, Kobe, and Shaq. But he managed all those egos, and got them to buy into a system that helped them succeed as a team. Truly the Zen Master. He coached for 20 seasons, reaching the NBA Finals 13 times, winning them 11 times. Remarkable, even if he did coach all time greats. I have no doubt that had Phil coached LeBron James for most of his career, LeBron would have won more championships.

Dr J's flare and athleticism was MJ's blueprint, and MJ became Kobe's, D-Wade's, LeBron's, and others after him. MJ was the best in his era. He was a beast. He was the most athletic player, and one of the tallest at his position in that time. Aside from Drexler (Devin Booker), Steve Smith (DeMar DeRozan), Kendall Gill (Zach Levine), Reggie Miller (Rat Allen), competition was either too small or if they were taller and bigger, they moved like Frankensteins outside of the paint and he'd blow by them. In past eras where he'd have countless players who could match him step for step, similarly athletic despite their sizes with the best players in the league being bigger and taller in stature (KD, LeBron, Antetekumpo, Dirk, Kawhi, Kobe, Harden and even players closer to his stature like Ginobli, Devin Booker, Westbrook, D-Wade, Steph, Kobe, Klay, T-Mac, Jimmy Butler, D-Rose, Lillard), giving a defense playing MJ problems that he didn't have to worry about in his era on a nightly basis. Not saying MJ wouldn't have given eras after his problems as well, but objectively speaking it's small sighted to say that because MJ dominated an era that didn't have players as versitile and talented as players after his era, he's still the GOAT.
@MasterSpade
@MasterSpade 3 года назад
@@mobetta2092 -- You have to remember a couple of other things too. In the 80's and 90's, there were True Center and PF's. The 90's was voted the "Era of the Big Man" by either SC or ESPN, can't remember which. They compared Era's and the 90's was voted #1. That means that when Jordan drove to the Basket, he had Oakley and Ewing in their primes, at their Peaks, waiting for him. Then the next night, he had Hakeem waiting for him. Another game, Mutombo right there waiting for him. Next game, D.Robinson. Another game, Rodman and Laimbeer. Back then, Defense was still allowed. In today's NBA, Jordan would average MORE points. Defense has been BANNED. In today's game, players are not even allowed to Touch the player on offense! Add that to the fact that the Post is void of true "Big Men" of the past. All the post players of today are on the perimeter, so it would be a Paradise for a Player like Jordan. You can't touch him.......AND the post is all alone! OMG. Because defense has been banned, today's game is paced so much faster. Because of that, teams are averaging 25 more shots per game. Can you imagine Jordan with 12+ more shots in a league with no defense and no bigs???? Jordan's scoring average goes beyond 45+ ppg while still winning titles. You put ANY player from back in the day in today's game, their scoring average also goes up. Imagine Dr. J in today's game. Even players like Chris Mullin would go up at least one tier.
@mobetta2092
@mobetta2092 3 года назад
@@MasterSpade certainly the 80s and 90s were the eras of the big men, no arguments there. Jordan was ahead of his time, which is no knock on him. That just goes to my point of how perimeter players weren't as competitive for MJ as perimeter players would be for him today. Bigs were the best players and they were like lumbering Frankensteins who were no threat whatsoever outside of the paint. By the time MJ was on his way to the basket they had little to no options. In this era, MJ would have his work cut out for him with players who'd make him work on the defensive end and bigs are more athletic. Not saying MJ would be shutdown, but he wouldn't be as dominant as he was in his era....too small.
@MasterSpade
@MasterSpade 3 года назад
@@mobetta2092 -- Jordan, along with everyone else from back then, would be MORE Dominant in today's NBA. Back then, players were allowed to play Defense, and even "Thug Ball". Go watch videos of MJ getting past Dumars, then dunking on Rodman and Laimbeer. All while they were raping him. If he can score 30+ppg in a Thug Ball league, imagine in today's NBA where defenders...........are not allowed to defend. They seriously cannot even TOUCH the player on Offense. The only time players of today hit the floor is when they Flop! Today's NBA is nothing more than a 3pt shooting contest where Defense has been banned. Imagine putting Harden or Durant in the league in that 1984 Draft. Have them play the Bad Boys. Have them play those knicks teams. Have them play the pacers with the Davis brothers. They'd cry "toto....I don't think we're in our soft NBA anymore". Now, put players that were not Superstar players back then, but were good players, in today's league. Players like Toni Kukoc, Detlef Schrempf, and Arvydas Sabonis. They would thrive in today's league. They were used to playing this style. They would go up at least 1 tier as players. They weren't too good at Defense, but today's league doesn't allow that anyway. Bottom line, the league needs to bring back DEFENSE. At the very least, allow Hand-Checking. I'm not advocating to bring back "Thug Ball", but real true Defense. Until then, the NBA has become unwatchable.

Unfortunately for LeFraud's fans, MJ won 10 scoring tittles in 11 full seasons with the Bulls, 6 of those are during his 6 rings and 6 FMVPs. 9 of those scoring tittles, he also won 1st defensive awards, simply proves he's as great on offense as on defense. Watch last :41 of Game 6 1998 Finals with Bulls down by 3 when Pippen was hobbled by back injury to see MJ’s will to win. Jordan acts like he’s going to pull up for jumper then blows passed Russel for easy layup. Down by 1. Then MJ sneaks from weak side to steal ball from Malone posting up Rodman. Jordan doesn’t call time out where Utah can figure out how to defend Bull’s last shot. MJ drives to free throw circle & swishes clutch shot to go up by a point with about 5 seconds left. Stockton misses top of key shot. Bulls win 6th championship. That sequence defines greatness. MJ’s determination to succeed was & is unmatched. Simply THE G.O.A.T.

Jordan's first MVP season came in 1988 (Before Phil Headchoaching the Bulls). He led the Chicago Bulls to a 50-win season. He played all 82 games, led the league in scoring (35.0 points), minutes (40.4), and steals (3.2). He became the first player to ever win the MVP and DPOY award the same season.

It probably took Jordan longer than most to realize he needed to share the ball more to maximize his success because his abilities meant he could often break that rule. He was so good that he usually could go against 3 guys and still score efficiently. Guys with less abilities immediately realize their limitations because playing hero ball won't work for them, but it often could with Jordan; his scoring abilities were so insane that he could get away with it. In fact, he could get away with it as much as or more than anyone who ever played, so in that sense his accepting a more team-oriented approach was inherently harder for him to come to terms with than for literally anyone else. This dynamic is epitomized in Steve Nash's answer to Kobe's question, "How do you trust your teammates so much?": "I have to."

Why? Messi doesn’t have World Cup. Neither does C Ronaldo. Maradona only has one. Doesn’t mean they can’t be seen as one of the best or the goat. Same with basketball. MJ has 2 Olympic golds which is once every 4 years. If he wanted to be on the 1996 team, he would have been. He won an NCAA title. Team trophies is different to individual awards and MJ has more
