His work has been viewed online over five million times and featured in media outlets ranging from NPR to Al Jazeera America to Upworthy.com. Most recently, Phil was invited to perform alongside His Holiness The Dalai Lama for the celebration of his 80th birthday. He is the co-director with Sarah Kay of Project VOICE, an organization that uses poetry as tool to promote empowerment, improve literacy, and encourage empathy and creative collaboration in classrooms and communities Here he performs "Camaro" at NYC's Sheen Center.

I can't help but hear Sarah Kay when I listen to this. I feel like they speak and perform their poems very similarly - both great great writers and performers!

Phil Kaye back at it again! He slays. I've watched his poems on here since 2011. It's like a sweet unexpected gift whenever a new one comes out. 😊 To see him or Sarah Kay perform live would be a dream 😭

I love this one so much. I have been listening to it on repeat since 2 days straight. It breaks my heart when he smiles with such hope in his eyes while saying "Do you remember the camaro?" What a beautiful performance...

Awesome, purely amazing!! I have translated it to Hungarian, if there are any viewers from Hungary:D Camaro - Phil Kaye Te és én a "Herts autóbérlés" standja előtt állunk és te meg szeretnél győzni engem arról, hogy rendeljünk egy kabriót. Azt mondod "arra a plusz száz dollárra úgysem fogunk emlékezni évek múlva" Nincs igazad. Én emlékszem. Viszont mégis igazad van. Később azon a délutánon Kalifornia partjai mentén autókázunk Egy fehér Camaro kabrióban. Három órával délre San Franciscótól létezik egy partszakasz, Big Sur, ahol a sziklák a Csendes-óceánba hasadnak. És mi a penge élén fekszünk. Látom a ködöt, ahogyan a hegyekből száll fel, mintha megkönnyebbülten sóhajtana fel. A ködre? Arra a száz dollárra?

Britney roache I doubt it. You see what he projects on screen. It’s just a performance. Relationships are much more complicated than carefully composed words.
@peppermcgowanonline1841
@peppermcgowanonline1841 4 года назад
@@cookiesarelikecream There's a saying along the lines of "if you want to gain immortality, have an affair with a writer, ".... I have a few songs that I just recently found out people assumed were about my best friend/former roommate who I did write a couple of things for I'm the early/mid 90s on my first record and how they make me cringe -eek- because when we finally got a chance to see what we were not missing a few months later, both of us single at the same time, the absence of chemistry was so profound it was almost like an outside navel orange when you're expecting an innie. However, I have written several songs about the complicated relationship with my family, I have been known to mine the other members of my bands after I hear something that's stuck in my head- there's apparently a tune on RU-vid from my 5th record where I was totally jotting notes on my napkin when my bass player was relaying the last few weeks of his break-up and I did at least ask if I could use it for lyrics because it was very catchy the way he was saying it, he was really funny bitter. "I hate apples, I smell that apple shampoo on other girls and what is that about? Covering up some skank, how bout them apples?" And yet when I get to my actual heart insides, the older I get the least likely I am to go to the truly personal places where I have to look into that shadow side any more than I have and I do, and share it with the rest of the class... My divorce, my mother who is this impossible formidable beauty, my scars, I have a far easier time doing a montage of a few people that are neither nor either or, I don't think I can take my truths and give them to a microphone again. They're going to be all I have after awhile, I lose or give away every other thing that I care about. 😶
