After six seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Phil Kessel was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins. While he remains a mystery to many outside the Pittsburgh Penguins locker room, his unique style and humour is a welcomed addition.
After watching this I'm pretty sure he didn't even mean to savagely wreck team USA with that tweet a while ago. Just naturally funny and dangerously unaware of it lol
Kessel wasn't selected for team USA, because they tried to make a tough grindy team and people were shocked and angry that they did this and didn't pick up certain skilled players, most notably Phil Kessel who was one of the highest scoring American players at the time. Should have been a no brainer. Team USA went on to get absolutely destroyed in every game they played and never made it past the group stage. During the last game, which essentially didn't matter because Team USA was eliminated regardless and would also go on to lose anyway, Phil Kessel tweeted; "Just sitting around the house tonight with my dog, felt like I should be doing something important, but couldn't put my finger on it." Greatest tweet ever.
Phil really is an endearing guy. The way he stuck up for Phaneuf in Toronto shows it. He has always been a class act. I am so very glad he is apart of the penguins organization, and the city of Pittsburgh loves him!
I saw that video. For a guy that is as shy and quiet with the media as he usually is to speak up and call the media's treatment of Dion to be "disgusting" was awesome. When push came to shove, he stuck up for his teammates.
Phil Kessel is a hockey legend on the basis of his personality alone, never mind his talent. Makes everyone around him better in more ways than one, and is having yet another fantastic season with the Yotes despite the circumstances lol a beauty 👍
Really a shame that Phil came to the leafs when he did. The team struggled and the media needed a scapegoat. Imagine how differently Toronto would have viewed him if he played on the leafs current roster...
That was awesome. Phil's a great guy. As a Leafs fan that was sorry to see all the crap he took from the media (and fans) my favorite Kessel moment was when he put online that picture of him eating hotdogs out of the Stanley cup on a golf course. Ha ha, cry your heart out Steve Simmons!
Everyone saying Phil is fat and has horrible work ethic in the comments are actually so silly, whatever he's doing or not doing is working well for him; he got over 90 points this season. Let him live!
Hasn't spent more than 5 minutes in a gym, looks like a lumberjack beer leaguer, eats whatever he wants, yet is still one of the faster skaters in the league. Go Phil!
Gary Roberts said that he can 1 leg squat 335 pounds like it's nothing, and Malkin said he smokes him on the leg press machine. He's no slouch in the weight room
JazzxGaming in Pittsburgh there was no pressure for him to be the main guy, which means he was always tense in Toronto, instead of loose in Pittsburgh. That’s the problem with what they’re doing to Mathews, when he’s only 20. Putting that much pressure on guys is unfair.
I like everyone on Toronto now. But I'm just sad that we won't see jvr, Mathews, and Kessel on the same line ever again probably lol. That line would be killer
Best thing that ever happened to Kessel was leaving the cancer known as the Maple Leafs. Glad to see he's with a good team and playing for a fanbase that doesn't throw waffles at him.
Nice to see Phil has finally come out of his shell, he was Mr. Incommunicado with Boston and Providence (played 1 AHL game on a conditioning assignment, scored, spoke in a near inaudible voice to the media afterwards - clueless!), but that was then, obviously. Kessel a great supporter of his siblings when they play.
