Alan Gowen was a founding member of National Health in 1975 along with fellow keyboard player Dave Stewart and bassist Mont Campbell, sharing the composing between them. Phil Miller was also a founding member but initially not a writer. Here he reflects on why Gowen chose to leave the band in March 1977 (briefly staying on to help record the first studio album) after 18 months.

At 1.33sec it's in the Toverbal, Maassluis, Netherlands. Was a great performance. i know cause i took the picture. cheerio pip pip

Thanks for writing. Henk Weltevreden let me scan a series of photos of that Maassluis performance. I had always assumed it was his work, and have credited him for them when I have used them. Thanks for setting the record straight.

Phil Miller is one of the best guitarists to come out of the UK. He had an instantly recognisable sound, and an amazing vibrato!

These clips are great! A great contribution to music history. Have you ever interviewed Dave Stewart? He appears to be conspicuously quiet about his legacy..

Dave doesn't usually do audio interviews, he prefers written interviews, which is what I did with him... So, no audio/video clips possible, I'm afraid.
