Purple Lady, those are my thoughts exactly...and so incredibly endearing. I can't seem to get enough of these interviews (:)) Do men like this exist any longer? It seems that they went extinct here in Los Angeles / Hollywood.
@@Lorilee369 Ha amen sister! From LA too. I remember in the 80s hearing people disagree about wether he was nice or arrogant. I didn’t have MTV so I didn’t see interviews with him and didn’t know what he was like as a person.
I met Phil Oakley back in 1986 in London Ingland one incident me and Phil were walking and all women were screaming at both of us, wow it was awesome, thank for a great moment sir!!!! Sincere Rudolph Valentino😇
I'm fascinated that Phil has similar personality and gestures to Keany Reeves. It's fun to find such things following family lines and not just cultural experience.
What a Charming persona on Phil Oakey in this one! I don't know exactly How he coped with that peculiar interviewer, but Kudos to him(P.O.)!! Oooh, I Like that comment about Phil's 'OTT Loveliness!' Cute! He does look lovely, and those boots are soooo 'Dr. Who!' eheeh! ;P!
Awkward interview. But that was the fault of the interviewer (BA Robertson), not Phil Oakey. It's strange really how I thought back then that Phil was a bit egotistical, yet this interview shows that he was far from it. He's a lovely guy in fact. I also didn't really like Don't You Want Me at the time (I guess I was doing the teenage angst thing of liking them a bit less when they became famous), then found out later that Phil didn't rate the song much at the time either. ;)

@@jj-or2jn Some people probably liked Hitler's paintings, doesn't make him any less of a cunt. BA Robertson is a total tosser. He embodied everything that was (and still is) wrong with the music industry.
I remember the girl from Bow Wow Wow walking off in a huff from this interviewer guys show ,of course she was probably told to do it by Malcolm Maclaren.

As an American I'm confused about how serious verses humorous the interviewer was being when he said rude things to Phil. Phil seems so nice and he doesn't react or stand up to the guy and I don't understand why. Confusing interview to an American. lol
Robertson had already written down his questions and thought he knew what the answers should be. So when Phil threw him a curve ball he started getting huffy and completely lost his way. A good interviewer should always listen to the answer and work with it. Phil handled this prat brilliantly. He kept his composure all the way through.
It was quite difficult for English people like me to follow as well. The interviewer BA Robertson was trying to be clever throughout the interview but he only succeeded in making himself look like an idiot. Phil Oakey refused to get angry with him, even though he was justified in getting angry with him, which made Phil look very cool/hip from an English point of view.
Phil didn't need validation from anyone or be referred to by a silly pronoun to express himself the way he wanted. He's just a beautiful man who has an unconventional hairstyle and wears a bit of make-up.
Did you just say he didn’t need to be referred to by a silly pronoun while also using pronouns? Are you American because that’s some American level of uneducation
This has to be the worst interview ever. What a waste of a great opportunity. BA Robertson is obviously insanely jealous and appears to be a horrible person.
Musically l like b.a Robertson but his interviewing is appalling and you always get the feeling that he's trying to take the piss out of the people he's interviewing.
