As Phil sang this at that rally during the infamous Chicago "Democratic" Convention, thousands of young men burned their draft cards in unison. Phil later considered this one of the greatest moments of his life. At the same time, Phil saw the convention as the week in which America(and part of himself)died. The cover of his first album after the convention "Rehearsals for Retirment" alludes to this.
Thanks for posting this! These are precious images of Phil and the past in passing, backed by his ghostly voice that once sang to so many. That we lost him is tragic, that we seem to have all but forgotten him and his vision gives true meaning to the word "shame". The man in these songs and videos needs to be remembered, especially now, as his country fights yet another ideological "civil war" over what defines us as Americans - heroism or hubris.
