As a 25 year old who's watched Darts from an early age Phil Taylor has gave me some of the best moment's I've seen on Sky Sports, forever the king of darts, thank you Phil !
People can say what they like about Taylor but you will NEVER see the likes of him ever again, I grew up watching Phil play and will be grateful for all the memories he's given from hitting two nine darters to wiping out all the top players in this years World Matchplay to lift the trophy for the sixteenth time, thank you Phil and enjoy your retirement!!
Phil is the reason for my interest in watching darts on video or television when available. In the U.S. we grew up with baseball, basketball and football. But watching Phil over the years has been just as pleasing to watch professional dart events. Thanks Phil and best of luck in you future endeavors. San Jose CA USA
carbon4me: As a fellow American, I share your thoughts about the pro game of darts and Phil's impact on the game. I only discovered the PDC about three years ago and Phil Taylor quickly became my favorite player to the extent that this past year I subscribed to the PDC "live-streaming" service. Once one understands the pro game, this sport really gets under your skin. I will miss watching Taylor and wish him well but, the promising young players should make 2018 an interesting year.
Haha klopt...
Happy retirement Phil you have given us 30 years of genius mastery win or loose you're a LEGEND nothing else to say what can I say who will beat you're record NO-ONE not a chance over 100 televised finals and a career 200 wins wow we miss you Phil........
Reminds me of Brian Clough. Straight talking. People don't like his humble-bragging false modesty....but he has earned the right to judge any darts player. Over 200 tournament wins including 16 world titles and 16 world matchplay titles. Insane.
I wanted to see Taylor win this, but it was fitting for him to make it to the final even to be comprehensively beaten. I think losing to Chris Dobey or in the earlier rounds would have been anti-climactic. It was a monumental night for darts!
Thank you for the memories, Phil! An incredible career comes to an end... 16 World titles, 16 World Matchplay titles, over 100 PDC televised titles and multiple nine-darters, including 2 nine-darters in 1 match a few years back, which was absolutely amazing! The greatest player to ever throw a dart. #LoveTheDarts
The Best, Phil Taylor's trophy haul will never be matched, You were Awesome at your peak, All the Best for your future, Get in the commentary box Phil, It'll be great to hear your honest opinions now your off the circuit.
Brill, bruv! What a Worlds this year... Enjoyed so much of it, hard to believe it's over! Thank you Phil! Thank you Barry! Thank you PDC!! PROFESSIONAL DARTS, YOU REQUIRE A MIRACLE (TO EVER SEE THE LIKES OF A PHIL TAYLOR AGAIN!) GAME ON!!
Thanks PHIL for inspiring me to give my best to this sport. I was lucky enough to represent Australia at the ripe old age of 56 . I'm 1 yr older than you & still think I can do it again. And if you ever get behind the wheel of Dave Platt's mustang again convince him to drive down to the bottom of WA and I'd be honoured to take you fishing besides Platty owes me a ride in that!! Happy Retirement & thanks for so many wonderful & inspiring memories.xxx
Absolute Gentleman. Won me £90 when he won the 1990 Embassy, watched him beat Ronnie Sharp who was playing brilliantly at the time. Lovely to hear he will do exhibitions etc. I can see Phil doing intro's, commentary when he gets bored being semi retired, Phil is the Jack Nicklaus and Seve Ballesteros of golf to the darting world. Legend. Thank you Phil.
I now have an empty void inside of me..actually teared up a little at the end of the final..darts for me will never be the same and am actually considering hanging up my own darts..hopin to see him play sometime in the future
Rock solid aiming and throwing technique, all those hours of practice and a strong mind made him the most successful darts player so far. It's great to watch the best in action. Enjoyed his honest and humorous interview. He interviews better than Ronnie in snooker. Enjoy your retirement PT.
Love him or hate him (I certainly don't like him), he is the legend and did so much for the sport. Farewell Phil, it was an incredible run till the very end.
This guy had a passion for a game he was good at and worked his tail off for many years in order to take darts to another level. I hope to see him as a darts commentator in the future. To be the champ, for so long, takes a very tough guy, too, and Phil was like iron, for a couple decades.
Seems like he's in a bit of shock that it's all over sad day for darts but on the other hand the future of darts is in good hand with all the players coming up
Michael Van Gerwan hi mvg is this really you? It's and end to one amazing player. Phil set the bar you have all reach it well done to you all. Phil should drop into the bdo now and beat bristows record which stands in the bdo. He only has to win 4 then retire. Anyway all the best to you and your family for 2018 this is good night from me andy from Stoke on trent. It's a pleasure to watch you when your at your best keep it up. Now I'm off to sleep as some of us have work in the morning. Take me 20 years to earn tonight's prize money lol
Just a few days ago he said he felt like winning this tournament and now he's like it's perfectly normal for him to not being able to win it because of his age, his lack of dedication etc.
Whether he faced MVG or rob cross, he didnt stand a chance. Hes lucky that gary got hurt and pretty much gave up and that peter wright lost to a huge upset early on
Any other excuses you want to make for Phils aponants. How about a bit of praise for a 57 year old still making the final and still top 6 in the world. Strikes me that a few more players should be practising to get to a better standard.
ihave been playing darts since phil started playing darts .im 57 like him and sad to say, never become a champion like him. but i never give up darts. well 16 world title is diffrent. i meam if i were him, wining a w orld title or two is something to be proud of. its not easy. 16 is too much. you know what i mean. one man can only do that; the power.
im 41 , i watched Phil when i was a kid, beating Bristow ...Seems like a life time ago and hes still at the top..What amazes me is there is only 3 years difference between Taylor and Bristow ..Bristow seems to have retired years and years ago
I don't like Phil Taylor as a person but there's no way around respecting him as the greatest darter ever. And it's nice to see him talking like this, retiring with no regrets and great, respectful words for Rob Cross. 'He's a breath of fresh air' was spot on.
Taylor lacks the sovereign behavior of a great champion. He's got the confidence and the aura on stage but not the sportsmanship he showed in this interview, in particular not when he's really challenged or loses. When the match is over the match is over and you can be fair and give credit to your opponent or admit what you did wrong. Taylor instead often talked trash. I started paying attention after Taylor told van Barneveld to 'fuck off' - after Taylor eliminated him from the WC in 2012. He even won and Barney is known for his sportsmanship and a more than established opponent. To behave like a little boy and be that kind of a jerk to someone that deserves almost the same respect as a darter and even more as a person was something I never forgot 'cause it revealed his character and I'm one of the old fashioned ones to whom character matters. Glad he showed some class in this interview and wish he can relax now that he's retired
Love him or hate him you have to respect him. I feel he slightly tainted himself in the last couple of years with erratic and strange comments after games, but without doubt the 2 characters that people love to hate, Phil Taylor and Barry Hearn have changed the whole global landscape of darts, the new generation grew up wanting to be Phil Taylor, so you have to put your feelings aside and realise that the fact that you can win 400 thousand GBP for the WC is due to those guys, the fact that you play in Japan, Auckland, Sydney etc is amazing, it is really turning into a global juggernaut sport, surely has to be in the Olympics soon
William Loke he will. Rob Cross isnt going to be a real threat for him i think. I think will be the same as with Andersom. Sometimes they win but not the majority of the times.
M I don't think he will be. Expecting him on UK Open and I think he'll get big in Matchplay. God, he'll lack so much practice until then... I mean, he won't have the practice of the Premier League contenders.
Darts wont be the same without him..Honest speech from Phil..Shame he didn't get that 9 darter...Cross a great talent like Michael..Lets see them do this year in, year out..
I met phil at the grandslam of darts last november, he borrowed my walking stick to poke a joker in the back! Lol! He is a nice guy. Goodbye phil! Enjoy retirement !!!
Dedication is the key to success. Crunchy Peanut butter is better than move and the great fire of London was in 1666. Suddenly an eagle swooped down and caught a field mouse. I often wondered why my kneecap was so deformed but once i discovered a picture frame i felt much better.
THERES ONLY ONE PHIL TAYLOR!!!! Thank you for the entertainment & sum of the best games of darts ever seen on tv over the years... PHIL THE POWER TAYLOR- LEGENED
Yes thanks for entertaining us Phil, watched you for years, but i guess it is time, can't dominate like you used to, lots of new kids on the block, can't say i will miss you too be honest, always thought of you as a bit of a smart arse, wonder if you're fellow professionals will miss you, there is a thought 💭
if i was head of BDO i would have a big talk to phil make all the wrongs right with them and being a part time player now phil could do a great promotion for BDO and playing at the lakeside in there world championship would be great and he could win that for about 5 years
You are the best ever phil taylor other players have good scoring and better than ur scoring buy u have won so much no one will equal it YOU ARE THE BEST AND GREAT FAIRYTALE WINNING WORLD MATCHPLAY THANK YOU
He was a great player but i used to hate it when he let himself down with his big mouth. He could often come across as an arrogant, spiteful, bitter little old man. I was expecting 30 or so players to come out at the end and give him a standing ovation or a guard of honour. That didn't happen.
That is your opinion. Those who see darts as a sport will reach the conclusion that Taylor is the greatest sportsman. Seeing it as a game is fine, I hardly think it matters, but the dictionary doesn't determine greatness - world titles do!
MVG is my solid bet for playing great darts in the future. He won't call it a career unless he manages to pull off two 9-Darters in one match. If anyone is gonna pull that off again, it's him.
