This is the second live 9 darter on Television and the fourth overall (at the time). The first televised 9 darter was hit by John Lowe in ‘84 and the second a few years later by Paul Lim, then over a transition of darts being broadcast live more often (mainly precipitated by the split in darts of ‘92 and Sky increasing its live coverage) there was a long period in which none were hit, probably due to the increased pressure of louder and larger crowds and the players being aware they’re being broadcast live. Ironically though in 2002, Shaun Greatbatch hit the first live televised 9 darter at a BDO event which was broadcast live in Holland but not the UK, hence Phil’s being hyped up so much as the “first”, realistically it is the first live televised 9 darter broadcast in Britain. In the 10 years it took for Sky to broadcast a 9 darter live there were also a lot of extreme prizes offered for a player who achieved the feat varying over the years such as a dart board with a diamond worth £100,000 embedded in the bullseye or in this case simply £100,000, more money than Phil got for actually winning the tournament.
It was! It was on ITV World of Sport October 1984. It was recorded though having been done about an hour earlier. Paul Lim did the 2nd televised 9 darter in the old BDO World Championship in Jan 1990, also a recording. Phil Taylor's in July 2002 (World Matchplay Blackpool) was the first on live TV
@@leylandlad Not strictly true. Correct about Lowe and Lim which weren't live; though Shaun Greatbatch hit the first live televised 9-darter though not on British TV.
Commentator was wrong to say never seen on Tv live, John Lowe did it in 84 against Keith D. Or am I missing something? But i was waiting for the Tango man to run out!
John Lowe's was the first 9-darter recorded on TV cameras, but it wasn't broadcast live. The same with Paul Lim at the Lakeside in 1990. Shaun Greatbatch actually did the first live 9-darter at the 2002 Dutch Open, which was a few months before the one in this video.
And Paul Lim also got one in 1990. The Taylor 9 darter was the first 9 darter being broadcast live as it happened. The other 2 were televised but pre recorded and shown after they had happened 🎯
Pmfsl it wasn't about live sky or anything else it was the 1st that got paid 6 figures same as nobody remembers a 147 other then some guy forget his name got paid 147gs plus 20k highest brk wow i wish i grew up on i tube n fake news also this wasn't even close to 4th 9d amazing they played this game before tv money or women with the last name earn😂
I don't know much of anything about darts, especially professional dart players. I've only watched in on TV a handful of times - but I know who Phil "the wizard" Taylor is. Shows you how legendary he is!
@@ksportz66 No, Lowe's nine darter wasn't a live broadcast. Shaun Greatbatch was the first man to hit a live televised nine darter, but it was only broadcast live in the Netherlands.
widdowson91 - Random story re: Lowe .. he did a charity even for our local community centre (my dad ran the event) and when he arrived, my dad said where is the dartboard !!! Dad came home and took my “paper wound” board. He did the gig... playing local players and some exhibition stuff. When I got my dart board back the next day , the T20 was pulped. 😂😂😂
