dude I'm 22, live in NYC, all my friends listens to Trance, hip hop, rock, metal... I grew up the same you did. Listening to Phil Vassar, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney etc etc. I wouldn't trade it for the world!
Your just right my friends don't wanna hear country and say its boring!! I don't get it!!! Love and blessings from northern Ireland big country following here!! Look up northern Ireland country singers.x
He was the first person I saw in concert. I don't remember it cause I was so little but my dad told me. 2023 and listening to co7ntry still. Love the older music like phill and brooks and Dunn and George and Kenny.
For sure. Saw him in a small show. Was exceptional. Interacts with the audience. Extremely good piano player and singer. Enjoyable to watch. Will certainly see him again.
I’ve seen Phil live at the 10 second saloon in Indy, a small bar with a giant line dancing floor. Paid $25 each a sat 10 feet from the stage. I’d pay ten times that to see him 10 times farther away any day! What a great concert! All his songs are incredible. Great band, great vocals, perfect sound, what else could one ask for?
This song is probably universal… we all know someone who was overlooked and went on to great things, and those who seemed to have it all and now have little. Life is (mostly) fair for most of us.
My name is Karlene, I wish I looked like Christy Brinkley but I regret not going to high school reunions. Came from a graduating class of 40 something! I haven’t turned out so bad !
I hadn't heard this song in many years before I heard it the other day on the radio. Phil Vassar put out some good stuff. Thank you for this. God be with you out there everybody, and Merry Christmas! ✝️ :)
Hey, I'm 14 years old and people expect me to LOVE pop music or whatever...but when I was little this is ALL I listened to, I still today. when people tell me wierd, I tell them that country is my life, it's what brought my life to happiness age to me doesn't matter to me, all that matters is that Im having a nice time and being happy :)
Love Phil's songs. Super talented. I miss this season of country music. Honestly you could put Carlene out now and we'd all love it!! We all need, just another day in paradise!! Thanks Phil❤🏝🏖
Phil Vassar is fabulous - if you have never attended one of his concerts where ever it may be....DO IT! Seen him 3 times & he gives it his all every single time! What A Great musician & entertainer!
David Slater was male vocalist winner of 1987 Star Search with Phil Vasser as the runner up male vocalist and both of them became major country singers
Phil Vassar is a real country music star. "Carlene" is better than 98% of what they play on "country music radio." A lot of the current batch of " country music stars" cannot hang with Vassar. Not a close call. Looking forward to seeing his show in January (no snow, Dear Lord). BTW, our number one is Vince Gill. He blows away every current "country star" of today. Not even close. Vassar and Gill. Not too shabby.
What a song.... It's now a part of my life. Thank you, Phil. You made my day again.... It's now, 9:45 PM. Time to shower and go to bed. Good Night, Carlene. You're the cutest.....
Phil Vassar has written so many country songs that have been recorded by other artists, but when I bought Phil's CD of him performing his own songs about 4 years ago, I was just completely floored. What a talent! Why is Phil Vassar not at the forefront of country music today? I'm going to go out on a limb here--Kenny Chesney's good, but Phil Vassar is great.
I went to Einstein Bagel yesterday for the first time & ordered caramel hot coffee, the gentleman who took my order made the coffee & I looked at the receipt & he spelt my name correctly Carlene, typically people don’t get the spelling correctly. I thanked him for spelling it correctly & that’s when he told me about this song. I’m 42 & never heard of this song, so I looked it up, it’s lovely & soothing like that cup of caramel coffee 😊
I love Phil Vaser! What A Great Song! Great Artist! Great Singer!!! This A Happy Song! For Some 1# who is Falling in love ! Great! Song! Phil!!!!! Thank You! Sir, Will See Ya!!
So I have a story about Mr. Phil Vasser! He graduated from Brookville High School in Lynchburg Virginia my mom and dad not only went to school with him my dad graduated the same year as him(1980)! back when I was a teenager going to Brookville High School myself, he came to town and put on a concert right there in the gym at Brookville! I got to meet him and it was an amazing experience that all these years later I still remember and always will! He's a super nice down to earth guy 😁
Thank you for this song. I think it's helped keep my mom young at heart. It was my dad who had the horn-rimmed glasses. He's passed away a few years now. Her old stomping grounds was downtown Vancouver, before it got built over with new skyscrapers. She was the valedictorian at caring for a lot of children, if you know what I mean.
Haven't heard this song in a decade or 2, I just woke up and it randomly popped in my head. So happy I found it. Loved this song when I was a little girl, I'm 28 now
I love this song! My grandma's name is Carlene! I used to line dance in my grandma's living room as she was given a CD of this song back in 2005! It was so much fun back then!
This is the song that I heard on the radio when I fell in love with Phil Vassar's music. Saw him in concert a few times and he can really play that piano like no other. What a hunk of a man.
On October 25, 1999, Phil Vassar released his debut single "Carlene" on Arista Nashville. It was Vassar's debut single, and the lead-off single from his self-titled 2000 debut album. Vassar wrote the song with Charlie Black and Rory Bourke, and featuring background vocals by Collin Raye. The song is about a girl named Carlene who went to high school. He recalls being an athlete who struggled with academics when she was a valedictorian. Now Carlene is an adult, he visits the school yard, where he meets Carlene by telling him that she looks good. In the second verse, the two go for a ride together as they begin conversing. Now that Carlene has PhD, and she's modeling for Vogue. He was a songwriter, who gets a couple songs on the radio. The single edit eliminates one repetition of the chorus at the end. This was Vassar's first music video, and it was directed by Gerry Wenner. The video debuted on CMT as a "Hot Shot" on October 29, 1999. The video features Vassar singing and playing piano on a rooftop.👍
Oh Phil Vassar had some great hits back in the early 2000s. This was my era of country music for me - late 90s to early 2000s where country music and a slight bit of pop was all I needed in the genre. Has that wholesome sound that I dug.
i love phil!! he is the only person who i have seen in concert and he is amazing!! i am going to another one of his concerts and i hope that he is just as good as last time
Im 16 i grew up with country and for the longest time ive grow out of it and it feels like my life hasnt been complete so Ive gone back and now im much happier person
