I used to play with Phil at the Pink Elephant in Brooklyn many years ago..He always was a hard swingin' cat...I'm glad to see he is still around..So few of us are...
phil woods was strong from the 1990's and down.. he is older and doesnt have the lung capacity of others like mr. anchipolovsky so he gives way to the young bulls. mr. anchipolovsky is fantastic but will take him years to approach mr. woods as a master virtuoso and top of the heap player. I love phil woods and his recordings will stand the test of time. best of all time on alto... i thinks so. he is a non comformist and totally dedicated to his art on his terms. never sold out.
Phils technique is impeccable, since his fingers barely leave the keys! - Anchipolovsky is very much the same and that's why playing alto saxophone sorts the men from the boys!! - In saying that, speed isn't everything as the likes of Benny Carter, Johnny Hodges and Paul Desmond proved.

This old toad really played this song but I know he lied about who the composer was because he also took some lyrical solos from several of Charlie Parker's songs but any its get work!!! i Liked it
