Really nice results from painting with a rattle can! It's amazing to see people selling "custom" helmets on ebay for hundreds of dollars that are covered with orange peel. It only they took as much care as you did.
Thanks! I agree about the amount orange peel helmets I see on eBay. It is a little daunting to scuff up a fresh paint job, but once you get over it, the results are worth the trouble.
Did you just print the stickers? And how did you do/where did you get the front 3D Eagles logo? Love you're work. Planning on making this in the near future for the Eagles & Cardinals for our hone decided decoration. ♥️💚♥️💚♥️💚♥️💚
I was reading something by a guy who does these helmets a lot and he said clear coats tend to fade and change color over time. Not sure how long he means but do you have any experience with that happening?
Not yet, I've only done a few helmets. I guess it depends on the quality of clear coat you're using. Some are more expensive than others, probably for a reason. I think the one I used is meant for cars. Also, if yellowing ever did occur, I imagine it would show more so on white paint, so if your helmet isn't white, I think it should be fine.
The replica helmets are slightly smaller than the real ones. They also fit into specific holes in the real helmets, so you will likely not be able to fit them correctly. You can find them used on eBay though, and give it your best shot.
About $220. Lots of variables can bring the cost up or down. I found an affordable helmet that had a good facemask that didn't need reconditioning, which would have cost another $30 or so. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
