Philip Sayce needs to be regarded as one of the best around. I wish he had more exposure. I am sure playing these small clubs is fun but he needs to be selling out larger venues. Who is his agent and promoter? Philip needs someone else.
There was a night in 2000 when Philip was playing with Jeff Healy at the Back Alley in Calgary. I was operating lights for the show..... and damn what a performance. Small clubs have way more vibe and feel to them over large venues.
its weird. I dont know who's managing Philip but he seems to barely ever play and when he does its in one of these small clubs thats local to him. I know he did a few festivals and stuff a couple of years ago but I dont understand why he or his management is limiting his reach so drastically. Maybe there are personal reasons but it seems strange
Not only is Philip an amazing guitar player but he could not be ANY cooler and humble....I've met him and he was just completely gracious and kind. I will be a fan for life.
That's for sure brother. I second that. 20 years ago I use to go see him after I worked a 12 hour ER Trauma shift on Thursday nights in LA...He was the most outstanding down to earth guy in tne entire club. Once I asked him about a 59 strat that he put together. He got up, handed .me the 20 thousand dollar guitar and let me play it. Then asked me, "what do you think". I been a friend and fan for many years.
Never heard of Mr Sayce before, until it was a sudden, random suggestion from my Spotify blues list. Damn, this guy is good! Such emotion, such a tone feeling, .. like he's in some sort of transcendental stage. Absolutely marvelous. Thank you Spotify for this musical enrichment :-)
One of the all time greats🏆 he deserves to be up there with the best of the best.. this performance is transcendental gold.. every note means everything.. 🙏🏼
Phil - when he solos, he doesn’t do what most do, which is stopping at Stevie/Jumi’s house. He just visits them, pays his respects, and flies off in his own direction. He’s unpredictable, which is great for soloing.
my god, dude. Please come to Belgium! First comment ever on a youtube video, but I can't ignore this! I play the guitar and if I ever had anyone asking me who would be my example or goal of skill that I'm hoping to achieve, this is it. Philip, you are a living icon! Thanks for broadening my musical spectrum!
His Intensity is without question right up there with the Big Texan himself 😉.....he is no doubt ....phenomenal....and if someone else doesn't agree .....well then you just don't get it. 👍 spot on bro.
this guy is phenomenal and should be doing bigger gigs a very under estimated and beautiful blues player and the voice to go with it to boot !! love this guy !!!
I'm thankful to found Mr. Philip S. So much soul and feeling!, for this guy i bought my first fender stratocaster, i alwasy had LP's, Mocking birds, lfyin v's.
Love this guy as a guitarist he's incredible on an unrelated note he sounds like my grandmother during an interview he uses the word lovely and sweet and almost any context I think I'll just stick to listening to the music
I really thought Frusciante Was my favourite guitar player. This is the best musical video I ve seen in my whole life. Mind blowing. Should be only allowed for 18+ .
Best I've seen/heard live, think it's cool that he's doing the small venues, seems like when artists go for the bigger arenas they loose touch with people including them selves and it just becomes a big money maker. I'ts truly inspirational to see & hear this guy pouring it out for the common good; true artist!
You gotta love Phil ! Ya just gotta! .... in order - Hendrix , svr , Phil, Gary Moore ..... unfortunately 3 are dead RIP-- which then leaves Phil to carry the torch and he does it so well.
I definitely agree that he has influences from guys like Stevie Ray Vaughn, but I also think his mannerisms are like Steve Vai; I also discovered him from a guitar playlist on Spotify
As a long time listener, first time caller, I have to say that he's SUPER BAD, even though I know the paths he's walking on. When you can feel the player's passion and the "I'll just play this because this is how I exist" vibe, you totally love what you're hearing. So I hope all those pretenders out there take note, including John Mayer in particular, because if you're not dying you're not trying when playing the blues.
