Richard Strauss (1864-1949) was a German composer and conductor, best known for his tone poems and operas.
'Also Sprach Zarathustra', Op. 30 is a tone poem by Richard Strauss, composed in 1896 and inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophical 1883-1885 novel 'Thus Spoke Zarathustra'. Strauss conducted its first performance on November 27, 1896 in Frankfurt.
Philip Smith (1952) is an American classical trumpet player, teacher, arranger, composer and conductor. He is former Principal Trumpet with the New York Philharmonic and played with the orchestra from 1978 to 2014. He is considered one of the greatest trumpeters of all time.
Jay Friedman (1939) is a trombonist, conductor, arranger and composer. He joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1962, and was appointed principal in 1964.
