EGP is olympics of choir competition and we won twice already.

I just saw them perform here at Towson, Maryland last Sunday. They were awesome! We were mesmerized, Pinoys & American audiences alike. Truly, the Madz are the pride of the Filipino people!
In behalf of the Pansol Choir of Sta.maria Della strada, we salute you MADZ and specially Prof.Mark Anthony Carpio for bringing home the glory for our nations. You inspired again the choral world for winning this prestigeous competition and making another history.. Once again you prove to the "World" that we are the best PERIOD!... Mabuhay kayong lahat.. regards to gladys (my classmate sa MuL10, galing mo girl! Apple and melvir)... Congratulation sa inyong lahat!!!
Madz, i am soooooooooooooooooooo proud of you guys! i love you all and especially Mark and all batch '97. you did it again. All glory to God for such beautiful gift of talent and music, to Mark - you are blessed and to our dear Ma'am OA, all that you've taught us from the first batch to now still lives on, in our singing and in our choirs. Mabuhay ang Philippine Madrigal Singers! Thank you Tim for the upload! God bless you!
thank you so much. i was with the madz when all this happened thus, we weren't able to get a better position and recording. truly... a win for the philippines! mabuhay!
Keep on winning; we are really proud of you! from canada
You are right we even have our OFW's and all the Filipino's who live abroad who suffer a lot of homesickness.
its is because of people like them that gives me a positive outlook that there is still hope for our country, regardless of the political and economic crisis in our country. Words aren't enough to thank you guys! I LOVE YOU ALL!
Ang tagal na nitong competition na ito.. its been 3 years after they won.. ang sarap balik balikan ng moment na ito.. seeing our philippine flag waiving on the air because of our achievement.. Mabuhay!
congrats madz... the irony of winning and singing the national anthem -- you gotta luv it! i like it as it is... well done madz! shout out to our choir in New York, SLRC, with maestros from this batch of Madz -- Leo Leal (tenor) and Enrico Lagasca (bass) Mabuhay!
This shows that choirs from the Philippines are World class.. specifically the Philippine Madrigal Singers who led all the Filipino choirs to the international stage and be at par the best of the world...
@jay061285 In this particular arrangement, or interpretation, of Lupan Hinirang, there seems to be a fermata at the end of each section. Time signature is still the same - 2/4 march tempo - but fermatas were added at certain intervals. Would be curious to know who recorded this version. Not sure who provided the CD - maybe the local Phil. Embassy or the Madz - but someone should have listened to it prior to it being used.
The Philippine Madrigal Singers are really good... They played as a threat to European choirs. They even got suspended in this grand prix before because no European singers can beat them. Moreover, the madz are from the University of the Philippines...
@JeuxRAE hehe. You know, the funny thing is we haven't really sent a truly elite choir to the world choir games. It's like we think that that competition isn't really an elite competition yet so why bother sending our best. Personally, I think the world choir games isn't at that elite level yet but they're really pushing it and promoting it. For now I don't have a problem with us sending our tier 2 choirs to the games. But in due time I'd like to see us bag every major award in that competition.
That's funny how everyone got thrown off by the arrangement of the music. I was singing along while watching and the same thing happened to me. Belated congrats to the Madrigal singers!
Wow! Congratz Pinoys! in summary: we have UP Madz, we have Manny Pacquiao, Efren "bata" Reyes, Paeng Nepomuceno, Great pinoys abroad, we have Regine V., ect..We got superpower of talents! Government officials should cooperate and magpakatino!
Sad but True.......... Only the good and the beautiful things are the focus of once eye........ kng pangit, ng bubulagan-bulagan lng.... pero that's a totally a different topic on its own........ not related to the reasons why this video was posted to begin with....... my two scents worth.
israelcan... from an article i had read when the madz first won the EGP (1997)... the legendary batch '89 of the madz advanced to the Grand Prix but failed to garner local support in the Philippines (sponsors). eventually, their quest for the EGP was scrapped and didn't push through. 2007 could have been their 3rd EGP since they are highly favored to win in 1990.
@gramirez72 thank you for that response. If that so the party/ies who submitted that CD must correct that version, because it can be used in future occasions like this one, and the story will repeat itself.
@Raymondpastoral "they played another version of the National Anthem... there were interludes between stanzas... the one used is of a different arrangement than the original version Julian Felipe wrote; Madz was singing the original arrangement... what joy!" ~Anonymous
hay sana nakapag aral ako sa UP or sa UST or sa ateneo... if nangyari yun sana na appreciate ko yung talents ng choir nila all the same... wala nang pa UST, USPA ateneo glee club or madz!!! magaling talaga ang mga pinoy pagdating na sa kantahan... hay.... MABUHAY MADZ CONGRATS!!!
tama po kayo. acc to my friend who was with the madz at that time, the national anthem used by arezzo did have an extra bar, right where it sounded like an error of the madz :)
@lnolasco2010 and one thing more, pls don't say that "di lang alam ng mga pinoy na walang rest dun sa intervals ng anthem", kc simula mga bata tayo kinakanta na natin ng ganun paraan un anthem. thank you.. Peace and God Bless...
the anthem that they played had extra "bars". that's why the madz were confused. good thing, one of the supporters was near the stage to give them a signal :)
@lnolasco2010 hey it is not on the "rest" of the original notation of Lupang Hinirang, the time signature must be 4-4, a march tempo na dapat sumakto talga xa.. cge sabayan mo ung accompaniment na yun, kakanta ka sa maraming tao, tingnan ko lang kung masasabayan mo yun... cge mag-rest ka dun after nung phrases, gumawa kn ng sarili mong anthem arrangement: cguro 5:4 ung labas ng time mo..
They got suspended in the European choral grand prix because no delegate from Europe can get ahead of the UP Madz. After the suspension, they still managed to win.
@jay061285 That's a pre-recorded arrangement, in other words a CD. In this arrangement, or interpretation, there's an extra beat or a "fermata" at the end of each section which threw the singers off. Maybe the festival committee acquired it from the local Phil. Embassy or the Madz submitted it, no idea. But wherever that recording came from the, the Madz should've been given an opportunity to get familiar with that particular version and been made aware of this kind of interpretation.
halu! I'm not pure filipino too father is thai. i just wonder how much is it to hire to sing for the king? do you sing loi khratong? very very good when i hear it before when i was a young boy.especially the guitar when strumming strumming, very nice makes me smiling face.and the accent is very thai so somehow i think u are not so good now because the old lady conductor is gone but i was wrong, you sing very clean now. how you do that?
Kudos to the Philippine Madrigal Singers for bringing home the top plum of the European Grand Prix for the second time. I hate how the organizers bastardized our national anthem. >:-(
ako, nagmamaganda? hindi ko na kailangan, ano. dati na akong maganda. feel free to satirize as much as you can. ang sa akin lang, dont do so to the extent that you deprive other people of the joy and pride that they feel as Filipinos/UP students. dont pull everyone down with your cynicism. kung may isyu ka sa sistema o sa gobyerno, sabihin mo na lang nang diretso.
