The Philips All-in-One 8000 garment steamer is an exciting new steaming and ironing solution that surprisingly makes ironing easier. Not a big fan of ironing, I have tried various systems such as the Laurastar ironing system and Tefal’s high pressure penetrating steam systems but none could alleviate me of this must-do chore at home. The Philips All-in-One 8000 series, however, was a pleasant surprise and was very simple to use.
About Philips All-In-One 8000 Series
Retailing at S$519, the Philips All in One 8000 Series is system is an ironing board and garment steamer all in one. Standing upright, the fully assembled system does not take up much space since it is tall rather than horizontal long like traditional ironing boards. Set up was easy with the various part clipping together. A smart hook at the top allows clothes to be steamed whilst hung up. this became my default ironing position because if was so convenient.
The steamer has six levels of steaming, 5 modes and Eco mode and has a continuous steam function. The system takes about 90 seconds to be ready for use which is very convenient. The board size is 41.2 x 78. 9 x 5.2cm and can be adjusted to various angles based on your preference. The 2L water tank is also pretty large, I only needed to refill it once during my long ironing session, which is better than typical steam irons in the market.
Eco mode uses the least amount of steam, while the rest of the five modes vary the amounts of steam. There's also a continuous steam mode. The iron head features what Philips calls OptimalTemp technology, which promises no burns on ironable fabric. I found when the board was in the vertical position, you could apply pressure whilst you apply the stream which really helped to remove the creases and wrinkles. The garment steamer comes with a single glove to protect your hand while you hold onto your clothing while you steam them. It does provide very good heat resistance but the glove would feel a little stuff after prolonged use.
I typically wear a lot of cotton and chinos, and steamers usually don't do as well with these types of fabrics. But I was pleasantly surprised with the system as it did a good job removing the creases and wrinkles on my clothes. If you're looking for the sharp look that regular irons provide, then this garment steamer is definitely not for you.
When it comes to trousers, you won’t be able to achieve a sharp crease, you can get good results by pressing against the backboard. Big creases and wrinkles were easy to be steamed away
Conclusion
The Philips All in One 8000 Series is system ticks all my boxes in terms of speed, convenience and ease of storage. At S$519, the Philips All-in-One 8000 garment steamer is a bit expensive but the ease-of-use, precision and powerful steam does make ironing a breeze.
