Welcome back Paul! My last tv was a Philips Ambilight and I loved it so I’d be interested in this for my next TV

There's some really good ambilight demo videos on RU-vid. And it's worth going into the setting and playing about with the ambilight settings. I've had mine about 3 years and would definitely get another I think there brilliant.

Nice video, well done Paul. I'm a pro in tech products like tvs & computers, e.t.c. I'm a tech enthusiast too. I have to say that Philips is a high quality brand, always different from the other manufacturers, wanted to offer more to their customers, like the: Pixel plus processor, Ambilight, second remote ctrl, tv wall mount, built in sound bar in the tv stand. They have high end tvs in their line up. Their Oled tvs are using LG panels of course, combined with powerful processors, offering crystal clear picture, and extremely smooth motion, together with excellent audio. Got many EISA awards. In the past they had partnership with LG in the panel manufacture. Since 2012 Philips tv was sold to the Hong Kong TP Vision, a tech giant with 7 factories worldwide. Philips tvs for European market are made by TPV in Poland. The quality is the same as before (high) when they 're made in Belgium. I consider myself an LG guy. But back in the days, in 2004 i bought the high end (for the time) Philips 42PF-9965 EISA awarded 42" Plasma tv, loaded with many nice features: Pixel Plus processor with Upscaling!! Ebox - external twin analoque tuner (FTR9965), multi picture in picture, many inputs/outputs, two remote ctrls, one was aluminum, programmable to control other devices, wall mount, optional table stand - full metal, that i bought. Slim tv 9cm thickness. The resolution is 1024x1024p (that was the highest for the time)! The plasma panel is the Fujitsu-Siemens Alis (acronyms for Alternative lighting of surfaces), the same panel was used by Sony at the time and of course by Fujitsu-Siemens Tvs, the high end models with the Farudja picture processing. I paid big money for 2004 CY£3300 (€5643), that's crazy retrospectively. I still have this as a second tv in the house, is resting in my bedroom, i use it very rare. The picture is still awesome with great blacks, natural colours and smooth motion, that's Plasma, i wish that it had HDMI connections and a higher res. For the free to air channels is enough since most of them here broadcast in 576i. And for watching DVD. This Tv is very reliable, is perfectly working. I quess it could be a museum piece! Now i prefer LG, i wish that they had Android os as Philips, i own one LG 47LM 960V Nano full array led 3D 1080p with 2 remote ctrls, one is the magic remote, and 7 pairs of 3D glasses. I' ll need an upgrade when the economics allowed. In my gym room i have one 55" TCL 6 series 4K Android tv, that's ok, just an affordable tv, great value for money. I'm thinking of a high end Oled, or a MiniLed, or a 4K short throw Laser projector.

I love my 807! It is a very good TV, one of the best 2022 OLED TVs!

Coincidentally been looking at this tv for the past week, and also a 43” for the office/bedroom/snug after my mate showed me the ambilight a few years back. A video of a chap flicking a torch on which appeared to glow on his curtain. Had enough of the Samsung and LG and fancy a change. 4K at 120hz is really appealing also. Great review mate. Perfectly timed. 👍🏼

Nice Video Paul. Glad your first experience of Philips TVs is good. Ambilight is very, very good IMHO. Some people may say it's a gimmick, but it makes a huge difference to the immersive experience. Everyone who came over and experienced it at our place was been really impressed and several people have gone on and bought Philips TV of their own. We had a Philips LED TV, which I got in lockdown for the PS4/5. It was really good but suffered from bad black levels. It's now replaced with an LG Mini-LED which is MUCH brighter and better black levels for the 120hz PS5 experience. Really missed the Ambilight, so got a Govee system which does something similar with a camera. Not nearly as good as the Philips built in Ambilight, but it is a good alternative for people who want something similar for non-Philips TVs.

I just bought 2 of this 48 inch 807 Philips tv right before the store was empty. 1 for upstairs play area, and 1 for my main living room. They are such a good deal, specially when tv prices are gonna shoot up because of the world economy.. new 808 model is around 50% more expensive in each inch segment here, without anything special new to offer, so buying these xx7 models before they sell out was a good deal. Was considering 65 inch for my main living room, but after several years with 55 inch tvs, and recently experiencing smaller tvs again and understanding more what I want from a tv for myself and my family, 48 inch is plenty. Didn’t know how much a good field of vision, and picture experience with content from 4k to 720/1080p meant to me before being on a cabin with a 32 inch tv… so much more relaxing to watch movies on, and awesome picture experience on lower resolution/less quality material. The “bigger is better” chase had really made me blind for quality viewing after I went up to 55 inch. So if anyone cares.. I recommend you to follow rtings and other optimal viewing distance data sheet. 😊 Thanks btw to the tech giant also.. your videos helped me with my choice 👍

I've allways been LG even from their led screens but ive got to admit this is next level. Id happily trade in my LG CX 65 for this . The oled and ambilight work real good together. Im actually jealous you get to try these tvs out. Love to see more of the Phillips range.

Very good review

I used to swear by Philips products back in the 90s and early 2000s. Everything from TVs, HIFi systems and surround sound amplifiers were head and shoulders above everything else, and it was always quite a bit cheaper too. The Philips surround sound amplifier I've had since 2003 still sounds better than all the modern stuff I've tried, and I've tried quite a bit.

Amazing review..

Excellent review. You're one of the few who do a detailed look at the back of the TV and that's invaluable because clearly wall mounting this TV will require smaller brackets. Philips TV's are good, my only gripe is that they're using Android TV and they won't commit to updating current models to Google TV. One request, would you be able to play some Sky 4K HDR material in your reviews. I know some TV's process Sky HDR quite badly I.e washed out and dark and it would be interesting just to see how the TV handles that content.

FYI mate. Just tested my 807. HDMI ports 3 and 4 are both 4K at 60Hz. Only 1 and 2 running at 120. 👍🏼

Just found this review. One thing you didn't get to this set has an excellent Bluetooth output and when paired with some good quality headphones is great for late night listening. One complaint I have concerns the cable cover. It's pointless for me at least, I have a Roku stick which is too long for the compartment with the cover in place. Also for those of us using usb sticks its better to leave the cover off rather than faff about.

This seems like a great TV. I've still got my 2017 55" LG OLED & my how technology has moved forward! Way better home menu! I've got RU-vid TV, RU-vid premium & this is right up my alley! Question: Is this a VRR capable unit? (variable refresh rate) Thanks in advance Tech Guy! I may have answered my own question, VRR may only be applicable to LCD

Great video … I also have a Philips Oled purely for the Ambilight feature … Most annoying thing for me specially with it being rated G for economy is there is no option to turn the standby light on or off like you can on a LG as I can’t turn it off manually at the wall switch after use because this is when the TV erases any image retention after use in standby.

Great video as I've been making quite some research before I get a new TV. What's your preferred choice between Philips 77OLED807 and Sony 77A80K?

I purchased the Philips 50PUS8106/12 per Xmas. Setting Menus are totally different to yours. Mine got the latest android OS which isn't to bad, but sluggish and I had problems with low storage so i ended getting the fire stick max,ita alot better than the android os on the tv. Sound and picture are great, I'm happy with the sound, no need for a sound bar for me. Gaming wise, got my xbox s hooked up and ita great. Sure, 4k 60fps as it's only hdmi 2.0 but if I reduce xbox settings to 1440p I get 120hz....win win.

Hey goood but To experience the full amby light experience, you have to select the setting follow video and then select the game because if you get a black border, your ambilight must also go out at standard, your pages will continue to light up so you have no experience

I have a Govee Home Kit (Amazon) with the Motion Camera and two Led Barlights for my Sony Bravia XH90,that's a great alternative if you don't have Ambilight on TV. With the App have more options. ✅✅

Great overview Paul. The TV looks amazing. However, I’m not 100% certain the ambilight is for me. I don’t dispute the superb effect, but I do like total darkness when watching a film, so not sure if the back light would bug me.

"Great black levels indeed" I think to myself before reminding myself I watch it on my old Sony Led tv. 😁 But that ambilight does look awesome! Never been that interested in it but it actually seems pretty darn cool. ✨

Great review of the Phillips 800 oled tv . Phillips tvs do not have Freesat that is a problem for some people and something else the you should watch out for Phillips tv are only pal and secam and are not capable of showing ntsc picture so embody who as US Imported blue rays disc or dvd disc watch out check first before buying a Phillips tv and then you will find out that am right about this

Curious about it for gaming since I heard it has hdmi 2.1 or would you be able to tell me if any Samsung crystal tv has 120hz with 4k for gaming? or can anyone suggest to me a tv for gaming that’s a decent price? Looks like here in the UK there is a lot of FreeviewPlay functionality with apps like the FreeviewPlay tv guide, Explore FreeviewPlay, FreeviewPlay player apps etc. How do these link to the UK apps like All4, iPlayer etc. is the FPlay button on the remote a shortcut to apps or guide ? ... Any chance of an overview for us non-Sky users ? Cheers in advance 😉

Hi, I’m looking to get a new Philips TV. The speakers in the back of this one are interesting to me. They look like proper speakers and a mini sub from their soundbar! Hi paul just a quick question- i have an lg 65cx oled - not stanby light on this morn and tv completey dead - tried all the trouble shooting - do u think this could be a power board failure?

Being a perfectionist after changing 5(!) different oled tvs (different models and brands) I finally have one without dead pixel/subpixels. I strongly advice to not go through this nightmare. Just don't search for them.

I got a 75inch mini led in the front room and after experiencing ambilight I don't think I can use another TV now. I want to get this OLED for the bedroom as a gaming TV but for me it's overpriced at the moment when you compare to the LG C1 & C2.

I dont know why, but if i enable HDR on my xsx or Ps5, the picture looks way worse than whitout HDR... i lose so much color and it just looks bad, i have tried everything so far and i play whit hdr off because it just looks better

Do yourself a favor and use Ambilight in semi Dark or completely Dark room. In light rooms it's a waste of energy due to imo extremely limited effect. Also,during games or action movies where a lot of things is happening near the corners of the screen a whole lot of quick changing action scenes , use Ambilight Game. The difference vs Default option should be quite obvious. Massive even. For example this video should do very nicely to demonstrante Ambilight Game vs other Ambilight modes.
