Thanks for the great review! Our high flicker rate and superior brightness makes LIFX a great choice for creators like yourself. Thanks for helping share the love.

I have had my 17 LIFX bulbs for 6 years now. I’ve upgraded most of them now. But I keep wanting to switch to Philips hue. The lack of a bridge sounds very nice. But without it, my WiFi router has to carry the weight of all the bulbs, and recently my bulbs have been having some MAJOR connectivity issues. And long response times. I just wish they’d fix this!! 😭😭 they also don’t work very well with Apple HomeKit and lack a pretty cool feature in Apple home as well. 😒

Sorry to hear about the connectivity issues - I'm fortunate I have not encountered any in my setup, they're working great still. Fingers crossed they stay that way and yours get fixed! I'm asusming you've already reset everything to default and you've upgraded the router? Those are just some ideas, I know I have a newer router so that could be helping me out. I'm not missing hue at all, and I still have issues with LIFX from time to time, but nothing severe. I think all smart home products in general are finnicky still, unfortunately.

@@nloop yeah, I got a hold of LIFX support via email. And they couldn’t find any problem. But it seems a good handful of people are having connectivity issues. I even had my internet provider come out and check everything and rewire some stuff. It says my lights have a strong connection but they just don’t respond. We’ll see 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have over 200 devices in my Apple Home. By far, the Hue lights are far more reliable then the Lifx. By far....... That's over a period of five years.

I use the dusk to dawn feature for my terrariums and my reptiles have become so much more active and it help me wake up as well. I have used lifx for years, but just within last month rediscovered automations and how usefull they are.

Why I switched? Price alone. I switched to Nanoleaf personally as I like how it integrates with Home on iOS.

Both Phillips Hue and LIFX offer great smart lighting options. However, I lean towards Nanoleaf for its standout quality and unique design features.

@@ro794I switched to nanoleaf and have already had to call support 4 times, they replaced bulbs and still over time, they just get more unstable over time to the point where I have to factory reset them all and start over. I've even tried it across 4 different routers, tried matter over thread, bluetooth etc and its the same everytime. For whatever reason these bulbs are just terrible for me and the quality is NOT what people say online. Most reviews I've seen come just days after people use them, but wait 3-6 weeks and the issues really start to show themselves. It's really a shame..

I’ve had two lifx bulbs die on me :( and they would go through phases where they disconnected from the WiFi and I’d have to completely reset them up and it was always horrible. I really liked them when they worked but maybe they’ve fixed the issues? Just sucks Cuase one was like 60$ other was the 30ish$

Im currently using GOVEE. No complaints so far. I had Philips a few years ago an honestly... I really kind of miss them despite that rediculous price tag

I have 6 lifx strips. 4 in the kitchen under the cabinets, and two long ones in my living room. One of the kitchen strips frequently doesn't respond, fails to turn on, etc. Sometimes when I want to change scenes in the living room, one will change and the other won't... Can get really frustrating. Hue are expensive. But they do seem to work better.

Pretty lame review TBH. I have 6 LIFX A19 bulbs that I had for about 5 years. Half of them failed within first 3 years and they are actually designed to fail - whatever solder wash they used creeps a bridge between contacts on LED PCB eventually to a point of shorting those contacts. You may-be able to fix this by cleaning brown sludge between contacts but not all bulbs can be revived that way. Forget about 27 years of useful lifetime. Besides something you did not mention is that too many Lifx bulbs can easily overload the 2.4ghz router band (causing all sorts of weird connectivity issues) requiring an upgrade to a newer more expensive router which costs hundreds of dollars, vs $30-50 bucks for a HUE bridge.

I have a couple LIFX bulbs that I have been using for the past few years but decided to switch to Hue. LIFX has great lighting (when it's new) but everything else seems to be... not the best. Because it uses wi-fi, it constantly cuts out and I want it to be responsive all the time, not 90% of the time. Also my older bulb I have had since late 2018 started to have LED color issues (one color is not as accurate as it used to be) as of a couple years ago. I think LIFX is good if you are just buying 1-2 bulbs for a couple lamps and do not need to deck out your whole house with smart lights but I think I would 100% go with Hue for the entire house since it has its own Zigbee hub. I actually chose LIFX over Hue back then because it did not require a hub but all I will say is that there is a reason why Hue still requires a hub in 2024... it just works well (until it dies and you lose your configs lol but at least it uses Zigbee which is an open standard).

Does Philips Hue really suffer from flickering issues? This is the first time I've heard about that. A major bummer, if that is true, because I only need "mood lights" for a streaming setup.
@mechantl0up

Lifetime of 23 years? No. LEDs degrade over time and will lose their brightness gradually while emitting light, so you want to replace them before they physically break. Also, such lifetime calculations are based on very short on-time per day. So check the fine print.
