It has come to my attention that the Philly Greyhound Terminal has closed permanently. Peter Pan buses (along with Greyhound and FlixBus) now board curbside on the 600 block of Market Street. There is no longer an indoor waiting room or seating. UPDATE: Due to the excessive amount of traffic caused by the curbside operation on Market Street, the Philly bus “terminal” has again moved to the intersection of Spring Garden Street and Delaware Avenue.

They closed the 4th busiest bus terminal and replaced it with curbside loading? Imagine if the 4th busiest airport did this. Greyhound is another level of stingy!

I agree any large city should defiantly have a full service terminal with indoor seating and rest rooms and at least vending machines to have some type of food service. If they don’t want to support their own terminal they should try to arrange to co use the Amtrak or airport as a station where full services would be available. If that’s not possible they should try to cooperate with the local transit authority to use one of their larger terminals which also would help provide local transit connections to their passengers.

How long would it take, and how much would it cost, by rail? I’ve not done the journey from NYC, but I have done it several times from Jersey City NJ. Either PATH or bus to Newark, NJ Transit train to Trenton, River Line to Camden, then PATCO to Philadelphia. I did once come back via SEPTA because I wanted to see what Croydon PA was like; I live in Croydon, England. I obviously wasn’t looking for a quick way to do the journey, I wanted to see the various systems, and the country.

The constant announcements were really annoying. Looks pretty similar to coach travel here in the UK. Interesting that the driver refers to the vehicle as a coach rather than a bus which is the term which generally seems to be used over there for this sort of vehicle.

Greyhound is a bad joke. They were sliding downhill for years and then the pandemic sealed the casket. I hate hearing about how horrible they are. I rode them as a kid in the 1960s up until the early 80s. I wouldn't dream of riding Greyhound, even for the sake of nostalgia.

I saw Peter Pan in Baltimore too. It looks like mainly a North Eastern regional operation. My last trip with Greyhound out of was horrible. They were always late, never kept a schedule, I missed connections, and an overnight trip took me two days.

Thank you for posting this. I’m from South Jersey and live 25 minutes outside Philly PA. Seemed like a not so bad trip. Greyhound although has really gone down hill for quite some time. I’ve never used their services but I hear so many bad reviews. Peter Pan provides better service from what a buddy of mine told me but I’d really would like to find out for myself one day if I need to use the bus service.

I am too young to retire, nor do I have a red, white and blue card. I saw the video above the Greyhound Bus Terminal. We (my son and I) were downtown a couple of days ago. I haven't been to New York in well over five years.

I was told by somebody who has written the bus several times in the last five years that it’s not a question of will you get robbed. It’s a question of how much you will lose and so I was kind of taken aback by that, even though I really should be riding the bus instead of anything else that I don’t think I want to.

A better choice might have been to go to Focus Travel, less than a block away from the Greyhound Bus Station in Philly's Chinatown. The Focus Travel Bus costs $32 round trip ... significantly cheaper than Peter Pan.

Unfortunately bus service is really getting bad. I almost always ride Amtrak but on occasion have used Greyhound or other bus lines to get to cities Amtrak does not serve. Now days both the amount of service and lack of good terminals makes me not want to use busses. It’s a shame since many smaller cities and towns depended on bus service as their only inter city transit service. Not everybody can own and drive a car or fly to where they want to go.

Yes it's truly a shame. It's too bad, the quality of bus service really depends on what operator you're traveling with. Often times, when it comes to serving smaller cities and towns, bus companies have monopolies on those particular routes. If you're stuck with a bus company that provides a poor product, there's not much you can do about it. Also the quality of service is often poor because bus companies unlike Amtrak, bus operators are private companies that don't receive subsidies from the government to operate their service even though they are often just as essential as Amtrak. And in this day and age, many bus companies are stretched really thin and there's no budget for nice terminals or good service.

I can get tomorrow's Amtrak Keystone for $38. With a little planing, the same trip is $19.

Greyhound is now owned by FlexMobility, a German Company, and it’s being shut down. Everything is being sold.
