Phineas and Ferb. Did have character progression on in one summer. Candice gets more curious about what's going. And .and izzabela gets more bold. And constantly. Broke formula while maintaining formula. Making every episode new situation . And they remember past days
@@factcheckingtroll3743 The thing about phineas and ferb though is that it was all about playing with your expectations. They made that formula so you would expect it. And therefore they could play with it as many times as they could, while shattering every trope in the book along the way.
Phineas and Ferb is such a consistently well written show it’s insane. Like it take me months to write one thing I like and these guys somehow did it on a schedule for 250 episodes.
it was glossed over a bit just how much of a passion project it was for the creators. there was a "a brief history of ..." episode on phineas and ferb that points out some different details. if the show was always on the back burners of the creators mind, they likely came up with many of the concepts before the show even started. Once it took off, they also got a team to bounce ideas off of and make work easier. so yes, it is impressive, but looking at the details shows some of the reasons it was even possible.
Heinz Doofenshmirtz is a great character and the only one who has developed through the series. I think the creators realized that they had something great going on with this character and wanted to develop him further, even trying to pitch the idea of a spinoff about Heinz working with Perry at O.W.C.A (Since he's legally an ocelot) but aparently that didn't work out so they decided to create the crossover as an excuse to naturally insert him into Milo Murphy's Law. Some people haven't been happy about Heinz practically taking over the show, but i think he's amazing and has bought new viewers. Not to mention how well he fits in a series with continuity.
i know that im going to check out the show now bc of him. he was my favorite part of phinease and ferb, and to see him grow in the short clips of this video, im not gonna lie i got a little bit choked up.
I am currently halfway through season one of Murphy’s Law, because the crossover made no sense. Can’t wait to get past the crossover and see more Doof!
He's not the only one who develops throughout the series, but the others are more in minor ways and a lot more subtle. Heinz though goes off in major changes.
this video really opened my eyes, since I grew up watching and enjoying Phineas and Ferb I never really accepted Milo Murphy as a replacement, mainly because I didn't watch it chronologically, henceforth not really understanding the plot lying beyond the familiar repetition carried over from Phineas and Ferb, but now everything makes sense and both of the shows so much better.
For me it's similar, but with the difference that i didn't really watch much TV since 2014 because i moved out and had so much going on. Only since 2018 my life has been more quiet, and there i realized, hey there's this show that feels and looks like Phineas and Ferb, but the characters are older, and i don't get the plot. But this video opened my eyes as well! I've got a show to watch now heh
I never got around to watching Milo Murphy's law, mostly because I don't see it on TV often, which lead me to believe that not a lot of people liked it, so they didn't bother playing it. BOY WAS I WRONG. I like the show a lot, even though I can't find many episodes.
Disney just... never announced that this show is running and they NEVER run it chronologically, there have been no marathons, so I just NEVER got around to watching it, even though P&F was easily my favorite TV show that I had ever watched.

This was a really good video; however I disagree with your claim that the cast of Phineas and Ferb don't go through as much development and change. Doof and Perry's relationship changes a lot. They realize the importance of each other in thier lives and become real friends (that punch each other). Candace realizes the love her brothers have for her and learns that she couldn't be happy without them. Initially she is trying to bust them because she find them annoying, but by the end of it she just wants to do it more out of spite to the mysterious force.
yeah I always just thought the reason Phineas and Ferb themselves don't really have any character development is cause they're just really young and oblivious to everything. The older characters had development which was great.
This is one of the best video essays, I've ever seen. It's easy to conclude both of these shows as children's television with little to no substance and just think they're running jokes. However, it's so interesting to dive deeper into it and see what great world building both of these shows have accomplished in over 10 years.

I think the best thing about both Phineas and Ferb and Milo Murphy's Law is that the two shows are the exact opposite of each other. One being about kids spending their summer time doing inventive and imaginative things, and the other being about people trying to live normal lives in an extraordinary world. The two are opposites, but connected, and both are distinct and enjoyable in their own rights, and I wouldn't say one is better than the other, it's simply preference.
Well, literally. In Season 2 they talk about how the main characters have they have the opposite effect on the world around them, with their probability ions. Phineas and Ferb's being for extremely good luck, and Milo's for incredibly bad luck... It's crazy how different these shows are, and yet they compliment each other so absolutely well. They feel so different when you're watching them, but they feel so similar somehow... This video is amazing. And it made me feel so much better about the shows fitting together, and how I've always felt them being such great companions. Both shows have two perspectives that are the yin and yang of the show, yet both of the shows are a yin and yang with each other. I can enjoy these shows so much more now, now that it's so balanced.

Candance's lyric in her Mysterious Force song from the movie, when she's like "To my mother every story's preposterous Never believes no matter what I do But though I'm right and she's wrong, I must confess I'd probably think I'm crazy, too" ..always sends 'I have no mouth yet I must scream'-esque shivers down my spine. The poor girl realizes she's staring down the barrel of something big, something universal, and that no-one will believe her. As audience members we know it's the meta story, but in her shoes it must feel like she's in a eldritch horror. I'm really glad the finale focused on her and Doof, as they're the ones with the real character arcs to follow.
There's 208 episodes of Phineas and Ferb and holidays come along just to extend it So the final problem for our production is finding a good way to end it...

It's easy to appreciate both of these shows for the surface-level reasons of good humor/writing and pacing, but understanding how purposeful all aspects of them are only makes me like them more.
Except for the fact that, by some strand of the imagination, they succeeded in doing that. At least, according to the list of Disney cartoons since the show premiered. Seriously, there was a three-year break from creating new animated shows for Disney Channel because of these admittedly well-liked children.

Damn! Phineas and Ferb WAS my childhood, and Dirk Gently’s HDA is my current favourite. You connect both of them to Milo Murphy’s Law, something I’m finding I like. And the result is something beautiful! Thanks for showing the nuance in these shows. Honestly, I see them both in a new light.
What I like is that Milo's show feels like a full evolution of P&F. As P&F went on, you could tell the writers were having a lot of fun subverting and working with the established dynamics of the characters. And with MML, they had the chance to fully mix things up and show changes in their characters. And I think it's nice to have a show like MML that says, essentially, things might go wrong but if you approach it right and don't give up, you'll still come out okay. Also Dakota and Cavendish are amazing and absolutely a couple.
15:00 Ok, you know what? Yeah, I'll watch Murphy's law. I haven't really kept up with modern cartoons much since I don't have TV and most of the newer cartoons that I have taken the time to watch have disappointed me. But I liked Phineas and Ferb, and I think you've convinced me that I'll actually enjoy watching Murphy's Law as well. I'll check it out, then maybe come back to this video one day for those last five minutes. xD

Milo Murphy’s Law, I think many would agree at first glance, is hardly a replacement for phineas and Ferb. I thought that too, and so did everyone I know that likes phineas and Ferb. However, upon sticking to it and watching about half of the first season, I realized that it is nearly as good as phineas and Ferb, and also very connected to it. I would definitely recommend sticking to it
Mutated Pearl start with the first. While it’s definitely not the best and gets better later, watching the show chronologically really improves my viewer enjoyment. Also, while it is very good, try to get over the fact that it’s not phineas and Ferb, because they are definitely different shows
At this point I'm just happy to see someone other than me watching Milo Murphy's Law. I need other people to tell me that the Island Of Lost Dakotas episode was a real thing that they really put in a cartoon for kids.
The episode of "the island of dakotas" it contains an almost existentialist message Not only show the Cavendish's deaths, the fact that Dakota must go into exile on an island for the rest of his life is quite sad. One my favorite episode of the show.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Phineas and Ferb. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Ferb's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Phineas and Ferb truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Phineas's existencial catchphrase "I know what we're gonna do today!," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Phineas and Ferb tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

As someone who has been a huge fan of Milo Murphy's Law from the start, this video was just what the doctor ordered. It's always been hard trying to tell people why Milo is just as worthy as Phineas and Ferb and this essay took the words right out of my mouth. Bravo for such a well done analysis! 👏
Apparently, there was another adaptation of Dirk Gently airing at around the same time on the British side of the BBC. From what I heard, fans of the Dirk Gently books were really unhappy with the liberties Max's adaptation took and like the British version better for its accuracy.
The first season was brilliant, the second season was eh, but it really did retcon a lot of the books. Personally I'm glad it took liberties from the books as however brilliant the producers of the show are, I dont think they'd have ever been able to replicate the story of the books in TV form.
Phineas and Ferb is such a unique show to me. It’s the one show my younger sister watched when she was growing up that I, as an older brother, was able to latch onto and appreciate as much as she did. This video does a really good job of capturing why that is.
They probably wanted to add a new character and looked if they had anything to work with. It's a weird thing to learn though, i always saw him as an afterthought.
Two movies now! And they’re both great. Phineas and Ferb meant a lot to me growing up and in the present day. It’s so well written and it aged so well. I’m a big fan of syndication type shows often choosing to watch those, Psych is another tight formula show, and the blank of the week genre. Thanks for making this it’s convinced me to try Milo’s.

Today, I have dedicated to doing spring cleaning & during my break, wearing some old, beat up jeans & a Dr. Doofenshmirtz shirt that I've had for years, I browse the suggestions on RU-vid to see if there's something quick & entertaining to watch. Of course I clicked onto this, given the title, thumbnail, & the fact that I'm wearing a Dr. Doofenshmirtz shirt. This video made me so happy, that I cried a little. I've been a P&F fan ever since the show first aired. To try & keep a long story short, back in August 2007, I had the worst day of my teenage life. My mom, sister, & I were staying at a motel in a sketchy part of town in Central Oregon & earlier that day, I was nearly kidnapped from a guy that lives across the street from the motel so I wasn't allowed to leave the room & sit through the torture of my younger sister watching High School Musical 2. Look, I know a lot of people like it but I was about 16 at the time so I was just slightly above the age to get into those movies. The best thing about it was the premier of Phineas & Ferb, it turned the worst day ever into the best night ever. I was hooked on the show ever since, it was a happy thing that came at a dreadful time for me. When the series was officially airing in 2008, I followed along closely & my family had changed cable providers within that time, we switched over to a company that oh my gosh, I absolutely loved because their Disney Channel On Demand had P&F episodes a week before they aired. I was apart of some P&F forums at the time & didn't have many people to talk to about the new episodes since they couldn't watch it early like me. When I discovered this, it was just before Traffic Cam Caper had aired, we were discussing theories & whatnot on what to expect in the episode. One night like 3 or 4 days before it aired, I was browsing on demand when I noticed that Traffic Cam Caper was on there, I wondered if it was a preview or something but no, it was the full episode! It went on for years, the ones I couldn't get early were the episodes that premiered on Toon Disney, I think same went for the ones that aired on Disney XD after the switch but I don't fully remember. In all honesty, as much as I adore both P&F as well as Milo Murphy's Law, I actually find it hard to recommend people to watch Phineas & Ferb. It's such a great show & people can find enjoyment out of it, definitely, but think about today's culture with binge watching & all that, this is not a series that you binge watch. I never binge watched it given I saw the show as it was released, a week before it was released if you want to get into specifics, even before a week for episodes such as One Good Scare that was released in other parts of the world before the US got it & through people on the forum, I got to see it, it was also released onto a DVD before it aired & I bought the DVD & saw it multiple times over again. Yeah, I was a crazed fan. What I'm getting at is with the nature of the show, it's best to pace out the viewing, I heard from many people that they didn't like it due to the repetitive nature & it was too much to try & take in all at once. Since I got to see it paced out, it's easier for me to get attached. Another note on seeing it as it aired versus now, this show came out at a awkward time & gets the full effect watching it during that time. Things were changing & the creators had a connection with the audience that has not been seen with earlier shows & since that's a newer thing, it wasn't as regulated either. Being in the online scene for P&F gave it even more value. I knew a lot of P&F youtubers since they were on the forum I was on. We all had each other added as friends on RU-vid (remember back when that was a thing?) & we had Dan Povenmire & Swampy Marsh added as RU-vid friends as well. If any of you remembers BarlowGirl, she would upload the P&F songs right after the episode with it aired & she got the lyrics from the creators (who supported her) to put them in the description of the video. Of course it's owned by Disney so she got banned. Another thing of note, Dan & Swampy were aware of our presence & I swear they trolled us. I love the episode Tip of the Day, watching it currently, it's just a weird episode that shouldn't even exist due to everyone except Candace forgetting about it in the end but if you were active in the community when that episode aired, it carries so much more weight. We typically would have an episode description or something before an episode aired but for Tip of the Day, all we had was the name, that is it. This was I believe the first episode to premier on Toon Disney, I could be wrong but before this, most, if not all, aired on Disney Channel. I did not have early access to this one due to where it was airing. We all speculated what it could be about, news paper, ice bergs, maybe even restaurant tips, nobody guessed tip of a shoelace. I swear this episode was made just to troll the online community, we even messaged both Dan & Swampy & shared our responses with each other on the topic. We asked if they could give a description or some hints or something but they told us that we would have to wait & see. Oh boy, it was worth it! Watching P&F as it aired was more than watching a good show, it was watching an amazing show & having a wonderful experience to go alongside it. Nothing can ever compare to experiencing this, I was full on invested in this series, as a teenager/young adult, I went to the Phineas & Ferb live show which was meant for young kids but I didn't care, even though my seat was next to a little boy that smelled like he had pooped his pants... of which he most likely did, he was that age. When Phineas & Ferb built that rollercoaster in the first episode, they took us on that ride with them, it was like that experiencing this show. As for Milo Murphy's Law, super glad I got invested into the series from the beginning. I met Olivia Olson (voice of Vanessa Doofenshmirtz) at a con, I was cosplaying as Dr. Doofenshmirtz at the time & she gave me a heads up about Milo Murphy's Law but I think it went by a different name at that time because I remember googling something different & tried keeping up to find out when it will air & then when googling it, I got articles about the name change or whatever. This show has been great so far although not the same experience. I remember being disappointed to not have anyone to bounce theories off of regarding Cavendish & Dakota since the forums for the P&F community had closed down since then. I seriously miss those guys. I had many theories regarding those two before it was revealed to us, I was surprised they got into it so quickly. I cosplayed as Milo & my friend was Diogee when we went to Rose City Comicon together, we actually planned those before they announced Weird Al was going to be there so it all worked out. Weird Al asked to take our picture & he sent it to Dan & Swampy, that probably is one of the biggest highlights of my time in this fandom. He's very awesome in person by the way, we met him like almost right after we got that cliffhanger reveal of Professor Time being Dr. Doofenshmirtz & then having to wait forever to get the crossover episode, dang Weird Al was having such a hard time not dropping hints & this was right before that huge wait truly began. Love the video so much, it brought me back in time, I wish to see more videos with this much love put into it on Phineas & Ferb as well as Milo Murphy's Law, it's something that just doesn't get talked about much. People acknowledge it all the time but you don't get fans who was there & followed it from early on in its life & cares deeply about the series talking about it anymore. This is up there with my favorite shows, I can't possibly be anymore happy seeing another fan talking about it, especially a topic surrounding the mysterious force, it wasn't just about the shows but a huge factor in them, that's a unique & fun video that only a true fan can make. This video is the reason I watched Milo Murphys law and I don't regret it I actually just finished it a few minutes ago and came back to Finnish this video it was great but the ending was a bit bland everything else was just amazing

This has like completely shocked me. Phineas and Ferb had a profound affect on me as a kid and know now that the characters from it now are having a chance to grow instead of being flat characters is just great. I have always loved Phineas and Ferb and you put why into words. I also watched w bit of Milo Murphy and could tell it could go somewhere interesting with the connections but couldn't have hoped for something better. I don't know how analysis of a kids tv shows has floored me so much but it has. Thank you.

in some episodes of Milo Murphy, one thing happens, but they prevent it from causing lasting damage, like the boulder chase scene with Elliot, but then in a later episode they rehash the same plot, but this time it goes wrong, like when Doof has the same boulder case scene. for another example, the first episode of season 1 were they miss the bus, but don't have recurring jokes or characters yet , and Melisa succeeds in all the betting, and they make it to school, but then in the 1st non-special episode of season 2, Doof has to bring Milo his lunch, and Cavendish and Dakota have to time travel to get them to school on time, or the pistachion special where they save the world with ease, vs the one where they need to harness the power of Phineas and Ferb to stop the pistachions. This characters on Milo Murphy can't do the same thing over and over, without the results changing.
I will say Candace and Doof both grow but they both have a lot more genre awareness and fourth wall jokes than kids, phineas in particular almost blind to formula. Their foiling of one another, both victims of the status quo, really shine especially well in the series finale, one of the best of all time.
I had a Milo Murphy's Law kick the other day, so seeing this is quite the pleasant surprise! With this idea and theory in mind, I wonder what they're going to do in the upcoming Phineas and Ferb movie to spice things up, and if the events of Milo Murphy's Law will effect anything. (Boy does that mean that I'll have to rewatch the show... For the first time since it ended.) But this does make me a bit sad how it seems that Milo Murphy's Law kinda gets shafted in terms of attention by the network, scheduling, and actually releasing episodes. Oh well. At least I'm excited to see what's going to happen next with Cavendish going rogue and all. Also with Doofenshmirtz being part of the main cast and all, it just makes me laugh how the creators can be just... voicing half the episode themselves. I just wish that Milo Murpy's Law was popular to the extent that Star vs. and Steven Universe are right now.

when i was younger watching phineas and ferb my favorites were perry and doofenshmirtz because they were the most fun. but as I got older my favorite became candace because shes a really well written teenager and she seems the most realistic of all the characters.
