Holy chitmon! I’ve been listening to phish for 27 years and the second half of this is absolutely one of my most phavorite jams ever. Dear lord, why did they just stop? Phish are masters of making us want more.
This is melting my face off and I'm not even fucked up. These guys are insanely good, I can't believe they are STILL playing and still this good. Wow. Thanks for putting this video up!
love the cheer of the crowd at the nine minute mark and then when they finish u can hear that guy yelling "Do it again whooo do it again!!!" haha gotta love it
1. As for the mistake, I get ya, and I'll guarantee you that if anyone in the Talking Heads would have made a mistake they would have been fired on the spot. 2. Love how they slow this down - more menacing. 3. Starting around the eight minute mark: Now that's what I call a vortex. 4. Is there a better rhythm section right now in rock? So in the pocket. Listen to Crosseyed and Painless - it takes them about one second to lock into a groove. 5. Comment #1 was meant ironically (sometimes you gotta point these things out). 6. I saw Phish once. I counted two mistakes. Both of them occurred when Trey hit the mic at the wrong time, after one-of-those all-over-the-place jams where four people experienced simultaneous telepathy. Really, where would you come back in? (And do you ever really come back?)
I found my city to live in for 57 years--Vancouver, WA, Live in the house my daddy built. got some thinkin' done--gottit fingered out--find my city 2 live in--this band is beyond beyond and i'm a freakin' deadhead. Love the little drummer boy!! and his skirts/dresses! What a freak! Love 2 Phish--home cookin'--it's only the river--i've got it fingered out--!!
i love phish, panic, dead, black crowes, allman brothers. I was at a "stolen faces" show recently, and I met this loud mouth arrogant dead head (most dead heads are really cool and polite) who said that phish fucking sucks. I couldn't believe it, my jaw hit the ground. Phish is a phenomenal band, hugely talented group. Im a huge panic fan too, and he said the same shit about panic. I was like, shut the fuck up bro, and walked away.
@ 2:04 Paige makes the same mistake I sometimes make when covering this song. F or F#? that is the question. F is the answer. F# - E - B for the chorus and Jam part only. No one EVER has rehearsed this song before playing it out I wouldn't think. Too easy. Oh and BTW.... these cats are totally human. Mistakes happen. "If you get confused listen to the music play" - J. Garcia
Man, I'm not tryn to be a hater... but damn, it blows my mind that a band so experienced playing music that is so simple still manages to fibb and mix up chord progressions. Listen close at 2:04. Not to be a perfectionist either, but I've seen bands that don't draw a fraction of that crowd play mind-blowing changes with intelligent, soulful improvisation that never miss a beat like that. Idk... something about Phish doesn't take me "there" ... but to each their own. There is a lot worse music to be into, so as long as its live and the musicians can have some fun with it, I guess its a good thing. I'd just suggest also checking out some bands like Snarky Puppy, Joshua Redman and The Elastic Band, Antibalas, etc... with love and respect.
Well, Im no world class music aficionado, but I played Sax and Trombone for years and I get all the music timing that you do. And every once in a while, they go get off. What I've found is some nights are really bad and most are spot on. They do a lot of intentional off beat "tempo" stuff (sorry to generalize) which can be construed as noise but really its just complex drumming and all, just very complex. But yes, they do have their off nights. As a phish"Head" thanks for being cool about the criticism, most people are "They suck, why don't you listen to pantera!" guys who don't realize they, too get off, and have off nights. Also phish allows filming of everything so it all gets recorded and on youtube...good and bad. The bottom line is they made the songs to Jam to and that's all their doing.
They are humans. It happens. That's how you know it's real music. Why focus on the negative? Focus on the love it generates which out-weighs any negatives. My humble opinion.
they've let a handful of jams go in 3.0, and "fans" still act surprised when "they don't jam anymore"....this is how they play now, if you dont like it, stop going and hogging all our tickets. :-)
Well, if you're going to cover Talking Heads, you could do a lot worse, but that breakdown at 2:05 was pretty awful. I don't know that the uptight rhythms of the Heads is a good fit for the the loose vibes of Phish. "Some good points, some bad points..." you get the idea.
this was such a sick jam until they aborted it. They could have gone to some amazing places with this one. This run as a whole was sub-par. Hopefully this year's MSG run will match the quality of the rest of 2012.
