Whilst a phobia of Simon Cowell may sound like a joke to some, for Michelle this fear is serious, and leaves her shaking, feeling physically sick, and sending her heart rate through the roof. Michelle can't watch Simon on television, hear his voice, or even see photographs of him in magazines. She has no idea how her phobia started. Can The Speakmans help?

I'm so pleased you were both able to help Michelle. She seems a lovely lady and it's great she can now put the phobia behind her. it's interesting that you mentioned about 'looks' people can give. In a way I can resonate with thate, as when a relative of mine would upset me as a child, she would give me what I can only describe as a 'mocking or smirking grin and bearing her teeth afterwards when no one else was looking. Almost as if pleased with her behaviour. As an adult I have seen the same look from others who've chosen to be unkind to me in the workplace, and it immediately reminds me of this relative. I remember if I've ever gone into town and seen my relative, my body's temperature drops for a few seconds as soon as I set eyes on her. Almost a similar feeling when crossing a road and a car comes round the corner to quickly and your body wants to move you out the way.

I dont think these people understand phobias or human psychology. It takes much longer than an hour to heal trauma connections and phobias 🙄

Please take a look around our channel, we will see plenty of evidence that all traumas can be healed. The length of time you have suffered has no bearing on the time it takes to heal. you must consider the time it took to create the trauma.

@@nikandevaspeakman As someone with trauma, I find this idea offensive. I understand you say this with the best intentions but trauma survivors are frequently told to "grow out of it" or "get over it." I know this isn't what you are implying, but it can be misconstrued in that way. Trauma cannot be fixed or healed. I have childhood trauma and although it can be eased and coping mechanisms can help, I accept that I will forever have painful memories and with an academic knowledge of psychological and cognitive neuroscience I know that the way my behaviour and emotional processing has developed will never be neurotypical. It is important to acknowledge that trauma cannot be "healed" or "undone" as 'trauma' refers to more than the initial conditioning stimuli itself. It includes the developmental and psychological symptoms and protective mechanisms that follow, many of which become unconscious (this isn't intended to reference to the psychodynamic definition.) I think a better way to promote activism and encourage people to reach out for help with their trauma is to promote the idea that trauma can be helped and survivors can learn to live and grow with their experiences and live a healthy life even with the damage and difficulties they may be forced to exist with for the rest of their lives.

@@malbochstudios3593 Thank you for your perspective and your thoughts. I tend to agree with what you are saying. Learning to live with it is a more realistic way of looking at trauma than 'healing/curing' phobias and trauma. I agree with what you are saying and wanted to let you know you aren't alone. Take care.

Can a phobia be of losing control, I have real issues with any medical people, to the point I can tell a nurse doctor or dentist from a room full of strangers. I also can't do anything where I don't know what is going to happen. Effect social situations to the point I don't try any more. Anxiety attacks running away are very often and when that isn't possible I totally freeze and blank out.
