Nice going on this build 👍 How does that Esc calibration work ? I'm very interested what the switch on your radio does ... (I noticed you flipping it a couple of times). Have a good one 😉
@AndrewNewton
@AndrewNewton 3 года назад
The switch is a throttle cut for safety. ESC calibration allows the ESC to learn the range of signal sent by the radio. Connect the battery with the throttle stick high, wait for 2 beeps, move throttle stick low, then it's done.

So far, I've always found that more up aileron than down is best, usually as much as double. So if you have 15mm up aileron, 7mm down on the opposite wing. It reduces drag on the raised wing thus helping the turn. Well that's what I read and it's logical. And it seems to improve the flight characteristics of any plane. I'll try it on an RC car next!!! 😋😋😋
@AndrewNewton
@AndrewNewton 5 лет назад
You have ailerons on a car!? Cool
@ericoschmitt
@ericoschmitt 4 года назад
wordreet makes sense, since forcing the wing up takes some energy from the glider, while forcing the opposite wing to go down more should make it turn faster keeping a bit more momentum.

Kind of new to builds. Is the aileron and flaps servos on the same servo wire with yours? I thought there would two wires coming from each wing to the receiver to have ailerons and flaps on separate channels.
@AndrewNewton
@AndrewNewton 3 года назад
Have to have separate wires for each servo coming from the wing. Sometimes they come connected with a Y-Lead just for packing. The Y-Leads are used to connect the 2 ailerons together and flaps together. Or you can forget the Y-Leads and have each servo on it's own channel.

Mine arrived yesterday, was a very good offer from HobbyKing. Did notice though that the servo-plugs used can be rotated which is not so good. As I did not want to use Y-leads on the ailerons, I used JR-type servo leads from HobbyKing. But the plugs on the wings did not fit easily and were kind of hard to disconnect again from these JR leads. One flap servo lead from one wing was very short, making it more difficult to connect/disconnect. Did anyone else notice these issues also? I'm thinking to replace the plugs and extend the short servo lead with a longer one because I'll have to remove the wings for transport...

@theblytonian3906
@theblytonian3906 3 года назад
Any functional reason in particular (other than either preferential bias and that you can) I'm perhaps unaware of that you've opted for using individual extensions to RX ports instead of a Y splitter for flaps in this ship Andrew? Does it offer some advantage such as switch or knob assignment other than fine adjustment within the TX settings rather than mechanical of the individual flap null position? As previously iterated elsewhere, returning to RC and always aware that being stale, I may have overlooked some factor. Thanks m8.
@AndrewNewton
@AndrewNewton 3 года назад
If you want Full House mixing every control surface needs it's own channel, but I would normally give up the full span aileron option and have flaps on a Y lead. But I do use camber and snap flaps so ailerons need separate channel.
@theblytonian3906
@theblytonian3906 3 года назад
@@AndrewNewton So if I understand you correctly, you are using the flaps in the 2400 in conjunction with ailerons as conjunctive full span ailerons when not deployed discriminately as flaps/airbrake or in crow config/conjunction with aileron/spoilerons? Either way, I'm getting the drift that it's advantageous to set up flaps like one would ailerons for spoileron, assigning an RX channel to each flap servo rather than using Y splitter there either. So 7 channel RX MIN req'd in that case, flap x2, aileron x2, elevator x1 rudder x1, ESC/SBEC x1 (throttle)? Thanks mate. Planning for spoilerons on my sans flaps PhoenixS 1.6M (en-route from Banggood), so a 6CH DSM2 Spektrum AR6200 will be plenty for it.

Hey andrew, great video! The newer models of this plane don't have screws for the servo hulls now and they included some Y adapters ocming from the wing to the FC bay. I am wondering about the Y adapters though.. there's 2 of them which look identical to me, shouldn't one of them for the ailerons be inverted? We are looking at buying either the phoenix 2000 v2 or the 2400. Looking at slope soaring and thermalling. Both models seem good.. I can really only see the differences are that 2400 feels bigger to manoeuvre in the sky? Less nimble and slower maybe when slope soaring? @@AndrewNewton what I meant was updating G-RX8 from ACCST to ACCESS. Just wanted your opinion on is it worth to upgrade G-RX8 to ACCESS firmware? My X9D+ 2019 ISRM supports both ACCST D16 and ACCESS by default.

Hey Andrew, you have probably caught up with this one by now. No need for them thar screws for the horns - use UHU Super Glue. Yep thats right super glue. Where all the others fail UHU is the only one that works every time

@@AndrewNewton Yes mate, I have used hot melt since I started in this hobby 16 years ago but have found hot melt on foam to plastic will separate in the long term ( a year or more). If you haven't use UHU Super Glue then you're in for a pleasant surprise. Just finished the build on my 2400 and can't get over how good the servos are. Just sitting there and they are all quiet. Quick too. Why are these servos so good when the ones you usually get on PNPs are what you throw out?

Hi Andrew. I was wondering how much flying you’ve had with this glider. I think it’s a dream :-). Have you ever considered installing spoilers ? There was at least one version available a year or so ago. I tried loads of methods of setting up crow braking but when I saw your video on this I realised I was making it much harder than it needed to be. Thanks for your videos.

Hmmm, I just built mine and cannot get a good CG with a 2200 mah battery. It's very tail heavy. CGs just fine with a 4000 4S mounted rearward in the battery compartment, but that's a lot of extra weight. I know that you've probably moved on to other things, but any comments welcome.

Andrew Newton I’m using the factory CG marks. With the 2200 mah 3S battery max forward, the CG is about 1” behind the factory CG marks.

Hi Andrew, I like your channel ! I crashed my phoenix 2000v1 after 5 years of good services, hundreds and hundreds flights... I loved it, but I've to buy a new glider. Always at VOLANTEX, to find the same pleasure for thermaling in flat land with a light battery, and slope soaring in the wind with ballast, what is the best choice, ASW 28, phoenix 2000 v2, or phoenix 2400 ? Thank for your advice
@AndrewNewton
@AndrewNewton 4 года назад
Thanks, definitely the Phoenix 2000 V2 is the best all rounder. The ASW28 and 2400 are fine for motoring around or sloping but they are not good thermal gliders. The ASW28 wing stalls very easily and the 2400 is too big and draggy with a tip stall tendency

Any advice on your 2400 flap settings? What percentage for the 2 settings (and most importantly what downward elevator compensation?) My maiden flight did not go well a couple of days ago!
@AndrewNewton
@AndrewNewton 4 месяца назад
50 and 100% for flaps. Max flaps is about 70º or as far down as it can go. Don't recall ELE compensation but it did need a fair bit. Maiden video shows flap behaviour ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nnqtzHG78Mg.html

That is really amazing, and quite horrifying marketing. Can I be a real pain, Andrew, and ask you to weigh the plane without the battery. What lipo are you using? I'm guessing a 2200 3S 35C, but maybe you are using something else? Then just confirm your flying weight again. ( Maybe an error??? No, I realise that is highly unlikely. ) What is making it so heavy do you suppose, Andrew? Go With the Flow Bruce
@AndrewNewton
@AndrewNewton 5 лет назад
2200 3S Zippy 45C = 186g. Ph 2400 without battery = 1490g It's not abnormally heavy. Compare that to a Radian XL 2.6m (2250g) Multiplex Solius 2.1m (1450g) Heron (1500g min)
