I'm looking forward to hearing how your annual came out. Could you do a video specifically on the annual? What was done what needed to be replaced what was the cost Etc. Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into making all of these videos. They're entertaining and informative. May God bless you and your family!
Hi Chuck. Overall, the annual went fairly well. Nothing major except a crack in the airbox just behind the air filter. I was able to find a replacement pretty quickly. All in all it was less than 8k which is good. Thanks for the kind words. God's blessing to you and your family as well.
One would have to wonder possibly if the ap failure is related to the update that gave you the g meter? Either way, nothing a truck load of cash will not resolve, lol, Thanks
We had the very same problem recently in our 2011 Meridian. We lost our roll servo in El Paso, which meant a long flight back to San Diego by hand. The roll servo had just been replaced and then failed again. Our mechanics decided to switch the roll and yaw servos to see if the problem was the servo or perhaps the connections or something else. After the switch, the roll servo worked and the yaw servo didn't, so we knew the problem. Then we discovered the autopilot will still work if the yaw servo is out, but not if the roll servo is out. Not that it matters, you want them both. :) Anyway, I hope you got it all sorted out. I really appreciate your videos. Blessings and peace.
Hi Tom. Thanks for the info. My issue turned out to be a failing roll servo. I got one from a friend that just upgraded to the GFC600 and it works perfectly.
Three hours hand flying - tough but one needs to be able to do it when needed. Reminds me of the flight from La Rochelle (France) to Biggin (UK) when my S-Tech 55 autopilot failed on take off - took several seconds to figure out why we were turning left when we should have been going right. That too was all hand flying thereafter - very tiring! It was also a roll servo ‘gone tech’. Everything breaks eventually.
You aren't by chance based in the same airfield as "Rebuild Rescue" by any chance? When I seen your hangar pull-out segments and the alleys between the hangars it looks very much similar if not the same. Just curious. As a previous owner of a nice Arrow, I have so many questions having watched all your videos. (anyway to contact you direct?) Here in Europe, IR used to be very onerous to obtain, but more recently a little easier. (I had to go the long way around with 9 out of the 14 ATPL ground exams - personally no need for a PPL to learn how to use the FMS for a B737, but that was necessary at the time -- much easier with the BIR in Europe now -- if only they had come up with that 15 years ago when everyone was begging for it !!)
@@MalibuFlyer Rebuild Rescue is a charitable organisation that picks up old/abandoned aircraft (and other vehicles such as boats etc.) and puts them back into airworthiness condition. I have been following them on YT for a few months especially for their updates on the Cessna 401 and the Trinidad TB20 (but also the boat, but not much lately on that score). Here is their YT ru-vid.com/show-UCPygLEFniGZmehxouDK-vbw
I own a Piper Malibu also. Can you tell me about your camera mounts and where you attach them, both inside the airplane and outside? That would be so helpful! Thanks, keep the videos coming. I learn something every time.
5:00 regarding your METAR flag colors. I happen to work at the company you named in the aviation division and here is the reason for the flag colors; The FAA will not allow the use of red on any datalink weather METAR for part 25. They would agree, begrudgingly, to use the industry standard for Part 23 avionics, but we needed a set of colors that were certifiable everywhere. So what was chosen was what could be used out of DO-267A requirements - sky blue/green/amber/magenta. Hope this helps.
Thanks, Ironically my wife and I had this same discussion a while back, Green good to go was what I was used to on foreflight, Never could figure out why Garmin chose Blue, but that makes sense, still wished there was continuity between everybody!
I just upgraded to the GFC 600. If you ever need any parts for the KFC 150 I have a box of them including all the servos. I bet you miss Phoenix but getting in and out of Falcon Field can be hectic at times.
Hi Bryan. Congratulations on the new GFC600! I actually got a replacement roll servo from another Malibu pilot who had also just upgraded. You're right about the Falcon class D, it's BUSY!
Corey-question for you and apologies for doing so via the comment feature....hopefully by now your Annual is long done....question involves use of the long range tank STC, I'm [hopefully] picking up my plane on Friday after this has been installed, was wondering if you had any operational tips. For example, I assume you keep the outboard filler ports locked unless you want the extra fuel? I've asked for a copy of the POH supplement to review in advance but haven't received it yet, so info from somebody who actually uses this feature is much appreciated.
Hi Carl. You're correct. Although you can fill the entire tank from the new outboard fillers, I think it's much faster to use the stock inboard fillers if you're taking less than 120g. In fact, even if I'm filling to 140g, I fill through the inboard caps, seal them, then fill the rest through the outboard. Obviously, make SURE you never open an inboard cap until that tank is below 60g. I hope that helps.
@@MalibuFlyer Update-PHX-EUG, 5+12 @ FL240, landed with 42 gallons remaining. Nice to be able to do a long flight and not stress the fuel. Now if I could only get that TIO-540 to run as well LOP as your TSIO-550 does….
great video, hope the annual went well. Why was the lady not wearing her headset, the engine can cause damage to your ears quickly without a nose cancelling headset.
The noise cancelling does not actually provide any protection just better experience. The nose canceling may impact smell. Either way a headset in general should add some hearing protection. Pressurized planes generally have lower noise than unpressurized but I think a Malibu is still fairly loud. entinstitute.com/noise-canceling-hearing-protection-does-it-really-exist/
Malibu Flyer, I saw you flying out of Springdale, AR airport. Do you folks live in NW Arkansas? I, too, live in NW Arkansas. Good flight, and I hope the annual came out well. I always enjoy your videos. Happy flying, and always safe landings.
@@MalibuFlyer Well, welcome to the area!! We moved here last year from the DFW Metroplex area, in Texas, and really enjoy living here. Be safe in your travels, and happy flying and safe landings always.
I Malibu hope you and family are well. Good video a part from going to the left and right going off coarse. Did you work it out just what happened phil. Keep safe and well buddy phil.
Just came across your channel! Great stuff. Great close up of the panel. May I ask what camera or method you use for recording the video of the panel up close? I get a lot of glare with my Hero9. Thanks in advance. PS Beautiful aircraft and great editing!
I had to laugh when you whined about 3 hours of hand flying. I just got back from a 6.5 hour flight from BFL, moderate chop for the last 4 hours of the flight, 1000 agl to stay below the smoke and follow the highway, and this was in my 172E. I was exhausted when I put her in the hangar at EUL. Anyway, I enjoyed your video.
Always fun to fly with you. Hope we get to hear what was going on with your AP. Did you find anything wrong with your auto pilot? Blessings to you guys!
I think the FAA should ban any device (cameras) from being mounted in such a way that they reduce visibility. VFR means SEE AND AVOID! An airplane two miles away is a speck hiding behind that GoPro.
@@frankedwards5951 The nosewheel doesn't have brakes, but there is a roller in the nose area that the wheel runs against to slow it down when retracted, the nose wheel actually rotates 90 degrees on retraction.
Corey, hope you stay healthy. No disrespect, but your wife seems totally disinterested and doubt she could handle a landing if something happened. I’m sure you’ve considered at least some lessons. Your daughter, on the other hand is a cool ,collected ,attentive alpha woman!
Seriously? How about foreflight APP changes tk Garmin flag colors. The main avionics in every airplane should change for an app. LMAO! Big loss of respect for such a dumb comment
