The more difficult it is to obtain a gun legally in a country, the higher the probability that the criminal will have a massive firepower advantage over decent people. So, in order to solve this, every adult who passes mental and physical tests should carry a gun wherever they want to. Then all psychos etc. would have no chance - they would be Swiss cheese in a second after pulling a gun on a victim. Obviously, anybody who drinks or does drugs should have no guns, for example. It shows the character of a person who would criticise his fellow man, those men and women sworn to protect us, who were essentially maimed and murdered by going to what was essentially a call on roommate dispute over an eviction notice. They were there to deescalate a situation; there was no warrant to serve, no eviction notice...they were there to help their community members resolve a situation without having any legal standing to do so. So, what...you want them to show up with SWAT?! You've been watchin' too many movies, dude. Seriously, do you even know how many roommate dispute calls these officers have to deal with on a weekly basis? Should they bring SWAT to EVERY one of them? Or maybe just the calls where the people in the dispute have LEGALLY obtained guns? Think before you type, man. Or if you don't want to think, just go back and listen to the initial 911 call from the roommate and you'll understand why they responded how they did. That "lunatic" had every right (as a tenant) to be in that house, in his room...period. The fact that they even got him to the door without an eviction notice was remarkable enough. These cops did their job, and they did it right, and I salute them. Once in a million situation. They are SO brave to deal with our depravity....the tragedy is that we need them to do so.

Searching him to early is a violation of the 4th amendment and it’s something officers have to be careful of when on these type of calls. It’s an unfortunate risk of the job. If you would like to shave off a little bit of the 4th amendment you could allow the officers the lateral perimeters to conduct those type of search’s. @@thebestfrom361 I'm a white man. The suspect was a white man. And I'd have my gun ready. I'm sure for some, race would be a factor. And I'm also sure the average IQ is 100. For most, walking a dark alley is scary. In a good neighborhood, a bad one, doesn't matter; no one walking the alley is on the lookout for black people, or white people, or yellow people. They are heightened because it's a dark alley (a dangerous situation), not because black people might get them. The officers here thought because he was young, it was a decent house, they'd talked, he wasn't screaming or anything, it seemed like a small issue, they perceived it as non-threatening. This happens all the time, with all races. You can watch videos all over youtube of cops getting killed by whites, blacks, browns, any color you choose, because they didn't respect the situation.

@KD not being cautious =/= de-escalating. This has nothing to do with the police being defined, this was a strategic mistake by the officers
@mariush.composer
@mariush.composer 2 года назад
@KD there are more ways to be cautious than to pull your gun. This mindset is the exact Problem why people are calling to defund police. For example cautious would be not letting him barricade in the house, getting the other people out as quick as possible, or not walking up the stairs to a suspect who they were told had a gun.

Condolences to the officers. But I got a question. The 911 caller told dispatch that Jacob clamied he has a gun. Aren't the officers supposed to treat him as possibly armed and act with great caution? It's just a bit surprising to see the three of them walk up to a possibly armed and mentally-unstable person in single file without any cover or counter-measures.

did you even watch the video? you didnt see how the officers were always behind cover or able to get to cover in an instant when they talked to Jacob? Or how about when they asked jacob to open the door and asked to see his hands? When jacob closed the door on them they called for backup because they precisely saw jacob as a threat. They didnt rush up the stairs, and sure, three officers got shot but what did you expect them to do? Go up with guns drawn? Potentially risk the life of the other occupant? What would happen if Jacob didnt have a gun when they walked up, but saw three officers with guns drawn and then went off to his room, barricade himself inside and started shooting?
