Today was Monday, and as Mondays go, there were lots of things to do before we actually got a chance to work on Phoenix. Eventually, in the late afternoon, Timothy and myself managed to put in a few hours. My main objective was to cut the new ply for the rotten area I found yesterday and to make sure that all the rotten wood is removed. Timothy worked on sorting some things out inside Phoenix while I prepared the area around the hole for penetrating epoxy and also cut and fitted the new sheet. I am still shocked and amazed at the kind of damage a leaking stanchion can cause on a wooden yacht. Something else that I learned, was that when doing interior wood, one should not skimp with epoxy and primer before painting. I found that some of the backing beams behind the hull, appeared to be simply painted without any prior treatment or even a base coat. I am keeping a watchful eye on the remaining parts of the marine ply sheet, because there are still the shapes at the step where the raised deck starts.
