Robin switching between super loud manly man and delicate emotional girl is such a good contrast. She's probably one of the best side characters in this game

I do love how this trial day ends with all three friends being prime suspects, all under different circumstances. Very cool setup going into the second day of a case.

I've got it! Hugh's secret is that he's an effigy being controlled by Magnus McGilded from hell in order to do battle with Meekins and Mr. Hat! Blackquill calling him "Golden Boy" is him hinting at that fact to everyone! It all makes sense! When did i get into this straight-jacket?

I love Hugh so much, he's soo silly! Trying so hard to be cool, I love that. I do love the sprite where he just takes the arrow in his mouth, dunno why, but it's just SO good! Also Steely Dan reference!! I genuinely was so excited as a fan of both the band AND the the JJBA character lol

Whether yelling like mad, or fainting like a debutante, Robin commits to the bit. "Junie put her heart and soul into getting things ready, while he just sat on his behind?" That is how group projects go, in my experience. I do feel for the translation team on the "You're a goner/Hugh O'Connor" bit. That couldn't have been an easy time. Thunder always has the best sense of dramatic timing!

We haven’t seen the last of these characters yet so I’ll just say Hugh O’Connor definitely hits his stride down the line. But I’m definitely a Hugh fan in general. Right now he’s an ABSOLUTE douche. And I as usual really enjoy the sheer shamelessness of him. The Judge I think is what takes it home this trial segment. The 3 of them essentially turned him around 3 times without a blindfold, told him there was going to be a piñata, then tell him they forgot the piñata. And the Judge’s response is “Oh fiddlesticks. Better luck next time!” While Blackquill has a quiet migraine watching it all go down. And I wouldn’t be so fast to write off the school rules over the murder charge as reasoning for their confession. I’ve seen some teenagers lose serious scholarships for cheating or drugs and the like, and their response was “so I can’t keep playing soccer and doing drugs?” With NO thought to the scholarship thing. (Teenagers can be frightening, but they can also be REALLY dumb.)

Regardless of what and how much I said about the 'Robin Reveal' under last weeks VOD, this case is amazing. The framing around the mock trial script creates a unique framing and pretty much a better 'Guitar Serenade' in every way. The secret of the friendship between our three students is very well done and how it interweaves with the mystery at every corner is just too good. And last but definitely not least, the characters are just a joy to watch, especially Robin and Myriam, easily some of the best side characters, in my opinion. Arguably one of the best singular (i.e. non-regarding the overarching story of the respective game) cases in the series.

Hugh's big secret...is that he's a reverse Atlas from Bioshock.

Blackquill, with your "hmph" responses and whatnot, you're really not making a case for yourself being more than a Sasuke-as-a-lawyer. Judge and his Grandson Drawing is now my headcannon. Hugh O'Connor McGilded! Everyone remembers the Noid and the importance of avoiding him. They just give this assumption that someone saying "you're a goner" MUST be the killer threatening the victim, and it couldn't possibly be Professor Courte speaking to her killer. Prij, "lawyers" and "prosecutors" have been distinctly different career paths since the first AA game. They're just highlighting it more here than they have in a while. Honestly, I feel like the localization team did as good a job as they could with this one, needing to match up the phrase with the name like that. That selective hearing line was great! Now, I wonder in what way this photo will actually work against Blackquill's claim here, for him to have held out on it for so long? Robin throwing herself out as guilty to buy time is sweet but misguided. Blackquill had better have some amazing backstory reveals in this game's Big Case, as so far I find him to be the most blandly unlikable prosecutor in the series. While Godot and Van Ziecks were both just as awful if not worse, what with the misogyny and racism respectively, those traits at least made them interesting characters. Blackquill just feels like he hates everything and everyone indiscriminately. I hope you guys were okay through that storm!
