yeah everything you say at the end is pretty much how I feel about the entire case; A case that could be really good and I really like how it presents the mystery of the three students with all of them looking pretty suspicious in some way (obviously with Juniper looking less suspicious as time goes on) but the entire thing is undermined because the completely obvious villain is the completely obvious villain

Fellas, it's even worse that Apollo and Athena's powers can't pick up on Means, when you think about it. He actually believes what he's saying about Prof. Courte and her teachings are true and killed her anyway, just to make a point. That is a sociopath behavior, right there. You need to bribe the professor to pass the ethics final? Either way you lose. Only courtrooms built before 1928 have an orchestra pit. The invention of talking cases made that feature moot. The Prosecution Professor, I suspect but cannot confirm, was a previous murder victim that was hidden better. What do you mean that tell was bad? My jeans cuff themselves whenever I fib.
When Robin mentioned a student collecting information for a professor, you'd think our characters would show at least a little curiosity to which professor. Seeing as we only have one living and non-anarchist one. Missed opportunity, when Prij said we still have no idea who the painting was, it's obviously the Siren! Right? Every mock trial needs a musical score! For added drama! Yeah, no one in this case has any sort of personal philosophy centered around the idea of doing whatever might be required to achieve a goal no matter how morally dubious. It's not like there's a a simple phrase stating that principle we've heard fourteen times now or anything. In all seriousness, what is it with this game and our main characters coming off completely blind to the idea of the actual killers as suspects until it's properly revealed, no matter how suspicious they might be? It feels like a bit of a cheap way to drag things out and add drama. Oh, I did not see the snitch twist coming! Neither who it was nor who she was reporting to! The whole trifecta of Apollo leaping to the logic of a $120000 bribe to the Means edits to "Look at this..." had me laughing like crazy. I avoid buying new clothes of any kind unless I have to, and even then I'm very boring in my choices, so that purchase wouldn't be for me, sorry.
No spoilers for Knives Out in case someone doesn’t know the ending, but if you know, the whole “You’re a goner” vs “Hugh O’Conner” bit kept making me think of that one scene. Especially since both Hugh’s are, indeed, assholes

So, I guess the reason why we have this first case timeline problem - is to ensure that we defend Juniper from Tonate *before* we learn that she is a snitch.

Most of the stuff here is slightly spoilery but it's obvious that Means is the bad guy 1. It's highly unlikely that Court is the one selling grade. Because telling a goody two shoe(hard to bribe & control) like Woods to spy on the students, would risk her learning of the operation & create more loose ends 2. If you tell me Means was Kristoph's professor I would believe it. They are very similar _ Both were willing to use any dirty tricks to win a case(including forged evidences) _ Both only care about appearance(how they are perceived by others) _ They immediately got rid off anyone who saw their secrets/true face(Court/Zak) then frame someone supposedly close to them(Woods/Phoenix) for the crime. But immediately changed their targets(to Miriam/O'reilly), when they realised that defending their "friends" would make them look better 3. It's unlikely that Means would frame Hugh: _ Framing Hugh risk exposing the selling grades business _ The whole reason Woods would want to choose him for the defense is to get the entire trio off the hook. If she was going to let Hugh take the heat she wouldn't want to changes lawyers(since Athena already has proofs tying Hugh to the case) 4. Woods coughing: _ She does have allergy but the main reason we saw her coughing so far is stress(also the jail cell doesn't have anything that trigger her cough). So this could be a legitimate sign that she is stressed _ This might just be me but. When I was a kid, the adults keep telling me not to cough(because it's irritate the throat which would cause even more coughing & it's annoy the adults) so I changed my cough to a series of minor coughs or harsh breathing to hide it, so they would stop yelling at me. This actually look a lot like her tells in the perceived mechanic
I actually would buy a pair of "the ends justify the means" booty shorts, if only for the Machiavelli reference (which is actually more complex than most media interpretations of the quote. but i won't get into it too much.)
This was when the case went from alright to HOLY SHITE. I absolutely adore this case. While not an S Tier case, it’s 1 of only 2 cases in A Tier that beats Goodbyes.
I will say, Athena and Apollo arent *exactly* lie detectors. If you dont have a physical tell and your emotions are in check, you can lie all you want in front of them
My counterargument is like, if someone smiles at you like that as much as Means does, and every other sentence out of his mouth is "the ends justify the means," I might be like "let me take a look and see if my supernatural-like abilities can get a vibe check on him." 😅My memory of this case is that it was a cool twist that means was the villain, but in hindsight idk what I was thinking lol
So... do they only have one mock trial per year? They're making it seem like it's a big special event. At my regular, non-legal-specialized school we had mock trial as an extra-curricular activity, and you did a bunch of trials. You would think a law school would have them pretty frequently.
I think Means was honestly okay with fabricating evidence to either frame some other random person or having Athena get one of Juniper's friends as long he wasn't convicted
You know, at this point I'm confused when it happened. If all three were in the mock trial, and the killing happened during the mock trial. 'I was pretty sure the body was found outside by Phoenix/Athena before it ended'. How did they do it when they were all in there at the time? I'm also suspicious of that statue in the picture with the moon that has an awl in it. Sounds like a lot happened in the art room we know nothing about yet. Like why did the costume fall on Robin? Who bumped it? Ignore the blood, why was Hugh all limpy like? Maybe it was all an accident. Maybe it was another Gant incident. Although previous Ace Attorney style, it does seem like Means will be the one, but hey capcom could surprise us In the end.. it would justify.. the means...
While I like this case, but that whole part at like 22:45 is what turns me off DD a bit compared to the rest of the series: it's super hand-holdy at times, even for a series that loves overexplanation lol
