I seriously can’t stand that bitch Dahlia Hawthorne... I really can’t. She caused so much trouble in her time... she faked her death to make it seem like Terry Fawles killed her, made Terry Fawles commit suicide during a trial, nearly killed Phoenix and then tried to kill Maya as a spirit being channeled by Misty Fey. *sigh* there is a special place reserved in Hell for that woman...
"I never liked you. Six years ago you helped then woman who put me to sleep get away. And then... you let Mia die. You even had the nerve to follow in her footsteps as a lawyer. I could never forgive you. But I was wrong about you. I knew it from the very beginning. The truth is, the only one I couldn't find it in my heart to forgive was me...In that one moment, I understood everything" Best moment in video game history
"Waiting for Godot" a play about 2 men, waiting for a being that will improve their lives, in a desolate place, everyday, they wait for godot to come, but he never does, they wait for him to give them meaning, and he never comes, they wait for him to take them out of their misery, but he never arrives. The men get older, letting the days pass by as they waste them, waiting for someone to come help them. This is very similar to Godot the character in ace attorney as a whole, his world has passed him by, and he's waiting for something to take him out of his misery, he feels like if he waits, he will get everything back. But that will never happen.
I felt bad for Godot because he lost everything and the person he loved the most,Mia Fey that part is when the song started to roll. I'm very sad with that part.
I feel no pity for the guy. He set up a stupid elaborate plot that ended up with Misty Fey's death and likely traumatizing Pearl and Maya. He's a consistent asshole. He's sexist towards Franziska. He deserves his guilty verdict.
In one of the cases in T&T ( Mask de Masque or Tres Bien ) when Phoenix summons Mia to help, you can see Godot looking astonished without talking. That’s kind of an Easter egg for Mia and Godots relationship.
Ahhh!! Hearing this play in the finale of the Ace Attorney anime was such a treat! I’m so glad they ripped it directly from the game. Made the episode so much better.
Same here, I get all teary-eyed when I listen to this and think of Godot. This man was happy, until his coffee got poisoned and his entire life got turned upside down. He spent 5 years in a coma because of how damaging the poison was, with him becoming blind and his hair turning white, which ended up in him having to wear a visor to see. He couldn't deal with Mia's death, so he quit his job as a lawyer and became a prosecutor, and projected all of his negative feelings onto Phoenix, saying how he is responsible for letting her die. Then he ended up learning about Morgan's plan and went to the training dojo to warn Misty and Iris so they could formulate a plan to save Maya. Although the plan succeeded, he was found guilty of murdering Misty (even though she was channeling Dahlia and was about to attack Maya). And when I first saw him in-game I thought he was nothing but a coffee addict.
+NLferdiNL I beat the game before going on youtube because of spoilers in comments. I am so lucky c: Also, was Godot given the...**Gulp** Death penalty?
+TheDualWieldingGamer Of course, he did kill someone for his sick need for everything to play out how he felt they should play out and not the best way for everything to happen. Plus the end with him being in the picture with Mia and misty heavily implied it.
I don't agree with that. Almost no culprits in the AA serie have been sentenced to death, Dahlia being one exception because she did several crimes, effectively killing several people on several different cases (not even counting the false testimonies, messing up with crimes scenes, etc). And yet again, she got hanged on years later after her last crime. Let's not forget either that almost every single culprit have killed people for greed, pure revenge or another bad reason, while in Godot's case, while revenge definitely was at least a part as to why he killed "Dahlia", it still saved someone. He said himself that he wasn't sure whether it was for revenge or the "pure thought to save Maya Fey". It wasn't a heartless, premeditated murder. Also, the drawings in the end don't imply that he died : rather, it shows two sides, the bottom one being the little "Phoenix friends' party", as they all worked together to make it through the case (yes, even Franziska, because if she wasn't there, Edgeworth would have been in trouble regarding the law if a prosecutor had acknowledged him during the first trial, she helped unlocking the sacred cavern, etc etc). The top side just shows the place where Godot's belongs : next to Mia, as he has no reason to be a part of Phoenix's clan. His heart belongs to Mia, thus why he is portrated here. He also has more links to Misty Fey (who herself, has more links to Mia than to Maya, or anyone else of Phoenix's group), hence, again, why they are pictured together. If we wanted to take the meaning of the drawing to the next level, we could possible say that it depicts that the three of them have been lifted of their curses, demons and whatnot. Godot explained more than enough how relieved he was at the end of the last case of PW3, Mia felt relieved as well that Godot and Maya were saved, and Misty, well ... She managed to see her daughter a last time before dying, and before departing she could see that Maya had people who cared about her, and were taking good care of her. If we were to ignore all of this, there would still be no logic as to why Godot would be executed right away for one single crime, a crime which wasn't even really intended to begin with, when Dahlia was just imprisoned for so much years despite all of she had done. So by this very long post, i can almost say with a 100% certainty that Godot isn't dead, the only small doubt that could remain is that if Godot had commited suicide while in jail (something we don't know at the moment so this is pure conjecture, even more since it doesn't suit the character at all). He is most likely going to be imprisoned for several years, i don't really know how many in this kind of cases (also since PW's law system is rather weird, well ...), let's say 20 years, but i more than highly doubt that he is dead atm :p Sorry for the very long post, hopefully someone will even read it or comment it at one point ahah
LayHon0217 Is that really fair? (Premidiated murder.) Murder on purpose should deserve the same fate as the victim. Godots "Murder" is fair. Either way, he was trying to save someone. Also, "Jail" I think you mean "Prison".
Its sad how godot probably died around at apollo justice ace attorney since simon's sentence was 7 years of prison and execution by the end of those years and 7 years have passed since the last case of t&t
I don't think he received capital punishment, did he? He confessed, the victim was at fault, his motive wasn't selfish I'm pretty sure he got 10 years... Or maybe even less
@@nialvessal He probably died shortly after the third game ended. He talked about how the only thing keeping him alive was getting revenge on Pheonix, and at the end, he is painted above the rest of the cast with Maya's sister and mother, both of whom also died.
@@realtimberstalker but maybe, if he found a new reason to live, then maybe he could be still alive. Idk, I'm just speculating... It very well could be that he let himself die in jail, but I just... It could also not be, right?
Diego Armando upon waking up from his coma: "Where is Mia? Is she safe? Is she alright?" "It seems like, in her investigations, she was murdered." "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
Godot started out like all of the prosecutors in this trilogy. Rude and unlikeable. But also like the others, as time went on, I began to like them and sympathize with them, and I think he hit me the hardest. Free my boy, he didn’t do anything
Whadda mean unlikeable bro was more cool and intimadating than dislikeable. He's the only prosecutor who made me go "oh shit he's good" which Edgeworth, von Karma, and Franziska couldn't do, mainly because of villainous tactics or Mia TELLING you that Franziska is good. I agree with the second part I just think "unlikeable" isn't how you would describe Godot in Stolen and Recipe.
@@grummblummstudios880 I’m not exactly sure unlikeable was the word I was going for. To me, he started out very annoying. But like I said, he really grew on me.
he literally killed his girlfriend mom... also... all they need to do to stop morgan is just tell pearl what really happens... all this this can be avoided hahahahhaha
@@grummblummstudios880 I actually love all of the prosecutors in entire main series (except Nahyuta, fuck Nahyuta) because they all have quite a few layers (yes, even Franziska) except for Manfred, who is amazing for other reasons. It says a lot about Ace Attorney prosecutors when the legendary Godot below average imo
Now I understand Godot, not only his purpouse and his tragical end. Now I understand that he couldn't see the truth, he refused it hiding himself with a mask and namimg himself "Godot" while betraying himself and his lover Mia changing from being at the lawyer part to the prosecutor part. All the pain of Mia dying and Dahlia escaping was too much for him so he put all his pain on Phoenix and he blamed him for his life. At the end he knew that his life was a facade and the real culprit wasn't Phoenix but him all alone. He couldn't see the red in the white because its a symbol that he couldn't stop Redd White (thing that Phoenix did). Not only his eyesight but also the mask and his hair it's also a symbol of Redd White. Thinking about Mia brought to Diego the idea of protecting her sister, Maya. And we all know how it ended, he technically saved her but at what cost? Even he doesn't know if he pull the sword that ended the life of her mother because he wanted to protect her, or because he was moved by the fury of seeing Dahlia Hawthorne in front of him again. All this time he thought he was the hero, that he could somehow compensate Mia, but at the end he understood everything when he watched the spirit of Mia living through his "enemie" Phoenix Wright. But internally he wanted this type of end. And that last cup of coffee was probably the best cup of coffee that he had ever shared with. Tasting the bitter taste of truth.
My favorite part of Trials and Tribulations is that almost every case is drawn together by the same thing: that love can blind you from the truth: (Spoilers ahead) - In the first case, Phoenix interrupts the trial and destroys evidence to protect Dahlia, even after it was revealed that Dahlia intended to kill him (made all the more interesting when you realize that 90% of his interactions were actually with Iris) - In the second case, Ron's entire motivation for continuing to follow Luke Atmey's heists and plans is to maintain his marriage with Desiree, to the point of immediately confessing to a theft of grand larceny in order to keep up the facade. Even after Luke Atmey is indicted, Ron insists that he is indeed Mask DeMasque, since in his mind, revealing the truth would destroy his marriage. - The third case doesn't match up very cleanly, but it was also originally meant for Justice for All if I understand correctly, and JfA's narrative of responsibility as a lawyer and pursuit of the truth would've served Recipe for Turnabout much better. - In the fourth case, Terry Fawles commits suicide in the middle of court after he believes to have betrayed Dahlia. - In the final case, both Godot and Phoenix show this same blindness, albeit in different ways. Phoenix crosses a burning bridge attempting to keep Maya safe, plummeting into Eagle River as a result, and Godot's entire motivation for doing battle with Phoenix, as well as his role in the murder of Elise Deauxnim, all traces back to his love of Mia Fey, and the betrayal he felt when the woman he loved was murdered due to forces outside of his control. However, what makes T&T such a powerful game is that in all of the aforementioned cases, those who were blinded came out on the other side understanding of the truth. Phoenix moved on from Dahlia (at least until Hazakura Temple), Ron and Desiree remained together out of devotion to one another, and Godot realized that the spirit of Mia was now living on through Phoenix. What an amazing game.
I’d argue that Recipe for Turnabout does fit this theme at least a little bit. Viola Cadaverini’s character revolves around how she turns a blind eye to the truth of her situation, and allows herself to be an accomplice to the murder of Glen Elg just so she can please the only person who “loves her” (although it’s stated that deep down she knows the Tiger was just manipulating her, she still goes against her better judgement just so she can cling onto one of the few connections she has)
Clever, using Prosecutor's Godot leitmotif and transforming it by modulating to the minor key. EDIT: Prosecutor's Godot Theme was in the Dorian mode, which sounds a lot jazzier and/or more "mysterious" than sad. Plus, this version is also slower.
I'm not as musically trained, so I can't identify this sort of thing easily (a little ironic, considering what I do on RU-vid lol), but I don't really hear it myself. This actually makes me kind of curious though
@@toprak3479 I should probably clarify that is more the retrograde of the theme, which is just the theme played backwards. Plus, it is also a variant which is why it took me a little while to notice it.
@@MusicalInquisit Oh wow that's really crazy if it's true. I have to check out the notes though. I had also noticed that Godot's motifs appear multiple times in Dahlia's theme but that one is more noticable.
I had genuine chills and felt so much dread and sorrow when this played in Bridge to the Turnabout. Specifically right before the final trial session: Godot implies that Maya is dead and says it's Phoenix's fault, then Pearl asks something like "You'll save Mystic Maya right Mr. Nick?" While this was playing. I was almost too scared to keep playing. I had purposely not seen anything about the next games, so I genuinely didn't know if Maya was going to live.
Spoiler alert(?) Welp, if you looked at only Apollo Justice or Dual Destinies, then it's more then likely you would believe she died, and then become confused as to why Payne, Meekins and Ema came back before her, Edgeworth or Gumshoe in the mainline games once you finish playing the two games mentionned prior (saying this from experience)
I always wondered why the killer never threw the body into the river but then it hit me Spoilers (but like I don’t know why you’re here and don’t want spoilers) I always thought it was a random detail that godot objected to maya throwing herself into the eagle river Probably because he knew the killer couldn’t throw the body into the eagle river because it would hit the little part of land below He also knew the killer couldn’t keep the body at the inner temple I always thought that the pendulum was a really risky move but the killer was ready to take that risk because if it didn’t go as planned the body would’ve just fell into the eagle river I always like to think up of stuff that could’ve happened. It’s really fun for me for some reason.
The question of "why did they proceed as they did after the murder?" really has the underlying question of "what was Godot's plan after he was forced to murder Misty?" I still don't know what the writers intended. It's not like he wanted to get away with it (as said in replies, Iris should've tossed it then), partially because it would've potentially made them pin the blame on someone innocent. But if he wanted to get caught, he could've just... turned himself in. It's not like he tried to hide the murder from Maya until she was ready to cope - she just about saw the moment itself. The only middle ground I find is if it was his way of testing Nick once and for all - but I find it odd that this would be his priority determining his actions right after a moment like killing Misty.
When i hear this song, it puts me in mind of Godot, mere hours before going to confront dahlia hawthorne, sitting at a dimly lit table the glow from his mask illuminating a cold cup of coffee, all while the memories of his happiest times with Mia dance around his head. As he sits there in the dark, his eyes well up with silent tears, before he reminds himself that it's not over yet. Most of the sad songs are heartbreaking, but in this gem, the sadness is in your soul. There should be a special place in the afterlife for those who can move people like this with music alone.
the worst thing about the ending is that not only did you prove he did it, you also made him confess to the fact that he isnt sure if he killed dahlia to protect maya or just purely for revenge, making this worse because it now puts more weight on his actions, doing this not for maya or mia, but for himself because of his loss, which also makes him question everything he did from when he woke up from the coma to the thing hes doing in court now, prosecuting just to take you down, also for his revenge because of his loss of mia. and like dahlia, he had nothing more to lose other than himself
spoilers obivously i still cannot believe i fucking called the final twist by accident when the investigation started i was joking when i said godot didn't show up at the trial because he was stuck at the inner temple goddamnit godot, i'm sad now
It’s very interesting to me how much people legitimately hate Dahlia as a character more than other AA villains. I mean, she’s done a lot of legitimately bad shit so I can see why, but the implications of what her character could represent are far less scary and just more tragic to me. Villains like MvK, Morgan, or Gant, however, portray much darker things (despite Dahlia killing more people), esp because all of them are in considerable positions of power and seem pretty,,, conservative, to say the least
That’s exactly why Dahlia IS so scary to me though. She’s not some police chief, she’s not an assassin, she’s not an international spy, she’s not the ruler of a country, she’s not the wannabe head of an ancient clan of mediums, she’s just a girl. She’s someone you could walk by on the street, who could realistically enter your life and who you might talk to and think is one of the sweetest people you’ve ever met, but underneath the surface she’s a killer. She’ll do anything to get what she wants. She ruined the lives of so many people and she done it with an everyday smile and a laugh. She’s the evil you meet everyday and never even know it.
@@flightdub6056 I think that’s why she’s actually less scary for me and just really interesting?? I mean in my case people in large positions of power who are usually older and less accepting of change in the world (what parts of villains like Gant, MvK and Morgan seem to imply) are far scarier than people like Dahlia because they are FAR less sympathizeable (it’s less obvious than the cases of other villains but the events that shaped Dahlia and Iris’s childhood and from what we know happened to them it was very much not a good one). Someone who holds the power to end a life through their influence alone is far scarier than someone who would need to do it with their own hands, in some ways
@@catboymiles7224 I'm not really intimidated by Dahlia herself to be honest. She's just annoying. Why couldn't the dead just stay dead, you know? The family of Spirit Mediums are by far the most troublesome to deal with whenever it comes to courtroom trials like these, hahahaha. They're kind of a handful too.

Even though JFA is the best because of it’s last case, I do need to reconsider T&T because it had a very awesome last case and had 2 more cases that are flashbacks from trials but is better.
justice for all just has trials too shitty to judge it the best game based on farewell my turnabout. if you wanna place smth from jfa high it would be on a case tier list or similar, not saying which game is best.
truly you didn't understand Godot's reason for not doing this, first of all He was Heartbroken and Ashamed after hearing the news of her Death and he blamed himself for not being able to protect her and he only blamed wright because he knew Wright's connection with Dahlia
