I like the looks of that Mike. They're a micro brand at the top of the game.

In Greek mythology, Proteus. Ancient Greek: Πρωτεύς, is an early prophetic sea-god or god of rivers and oceanic bodies of water, one of several deities whom Homer calls the "Old Man of the Sea". Some who ascribe a specific domain to Proteus call him the god of "elusive sea change", which suggests the constantly changing nature of the sea or the liquid quality of water. He can foretell the future, but, in a myth theme familiar to several cultures, will change his shape to avoid doing so; he answers only to those who are capable of capturing him. From this feature of Proteus comes the adjective protean, meaning "versatile", "mutable", or "capable of assuming many forms". "Protean" has positive connotations of flexibility, versatility and adaptability.

So this is an amazing watch for an amazing price that's for sure. Its too chunky for me but it is a great watch, especially the white one. I recently bought a Geckota, a local to me microbrand, nice retro vibes with a pt5000 movement :)

Always enjoy your reviews. The watch in question isn't to my taste, but I own a Voyager 3 and Nebula, and think they are great value

Holy cow that's a beefy watch. The case looks a bit like the Seiko Samurai. I like the dial and handset. The twist on the crown is pretty cool as well. How heavy is it?

I don't like the date window on this one. I do own a Phoibos and I've enjoyed it: the Leviathan in DLC-treated steel (ref. PY032E). I feel I'm well enough fixed for dive watches now, but I think Phoibos provides good value in a very popular price range. There are other brands you should consider in the same range (such as Helm) but if there's a Phoibos that grabs your interest, in my experience the watch that arrives in the mail will be the one you were expecting to get. If you did have a problem, I also feel sure they wouldn't try to dick you around. Good company.

I think the lume is sprayed on through a mask or pad printed several times

the case is grea tbut for me i'd like no date window or maybe at 6 would work better and ithink at this price a pt5000 would be viable ?

Id have preferred a PT5000 or even the Miyota 9015 both 28,800 VPH and from what i have reviewed so far out perform out of the box way better than any NH35. Ive got used to the date window and really like this watch in all honesty.

Hi Mike. my name is Marc i am from hoboken belgium. I have a question where can I find a 4th wheel seconds pinion for a movement - ST 1686 . I've already found some but they don't ship to Belgium. I'm still an apprentice in watches. But I watch a lot of your filming. Thank you and hope for an answer. Marc.

Very cool, although I still prefer the blue. As for cost, it may be only 305 Euros, but that's more than 5000 of my moneys. That said, it would be worth saving for one of these.

I'm in the US and don't know millimeters...how many bananas wide is this watch?
@MyRetroWatches
@MyRetroWatches 2 года назад
25.4mm to 1” so 1.653” is 42mm. So 0.028 tho” bigger than 1.5/8” I work in precision engineering and am old enough to know imperial & metric. Although the old timers call imperial system “English”

The bezel - I can tell from your comment that it's a fidget twiddler - tells me you aren't a diver! It's real function is to help keep track of your time whilst submerged. (Now superceded by dive computers) but it is used to mark the time at which you should be starting for the surface, unless you like breathing water! That time is calculated on a sliding scale based in temperature, bottom depth, size of your cylinder (of air!), etc. There are a few more 'bits'like decompression stops, but unless you intend using it, totally irrelevent! - - My blue-face Apollo, bought on your recommendation - runs about three minutes a week slow, in normal wear, but as I put on my review, that might improve a little as it runs in, and for a mechanical watch, is good enough for what I want.
@MyRetroWatches
@MyRetroWatches 2 года назад
HI, Thanks, I do know what a bezel is really for! I was joking with my daughter. Its British ironic humour. Equally I am correct as most watches with a bezel will never be used for the right purpose and with a lack of a sliding adjustment to fit over the wetsuit none are true dive watches.

Not if you're running out of oxygen it's not ! 😂

@@timholden7031 - Unless you are using a highly specialised closed-circuit rebreather, divers don't use oxygen! Under pressure, it is a poison!

While admiring your work on your channel generally, I have to say that I pay much less attention to it since it seems to have become the Phoibos/San Martin Channel.

Sorry to hear this Ron. It is something I have considered but there are reasons for the reviews too. The repairs are my heart and what I love doing the most but they take considerable time to produce often over 2 weeks and given I have a full time career and a young family this does come at some sacrifice to them. Added to that I have two medial issues right now, one being a femoral hernia which causes me pain to sit for long periods at my bench given the way I have to lean to work. Just my outpatient appointment to discuss surgery is January 2023 so looks like I have a year of pain until the possibility of a fix. I am also waiting results on a prostrate biopsy which could be a lot more concerning. YT wants content and without a constant upload they do not promote and I see views crash to the point of it not being worth the effort. I am not in it for the money but to put 10-15 hours into a video that will be seen by 8000 which would equal £30.00 is nonsensical and in reality to grow I need to do that twice a week. I like doing the reviews and seeing new things, I can make those videos in between my restorations (which I have been doing) a review may take 2 days at best plus they are being watches and also bringing in new subscribers who then might see my restoration videos leading to getting into the hobby. Analytics suggest that only a very small percentage of my subscribers watch any of my videos sadly, be that restoration or review. I had considered starting another channel to split the two and I may still might if I can get enough people on board but it would mean the main channel would drop due to slow upload schedule. Sorry for the chapter and verse but you touch a chord, one I have been contemplating allot. I still think Phoibos and San Martin have allot to offer, forgetting some peoples prejudice on on the countries origin. Unfortunatley for you there is more coming from San Martin but all I can say for you and others is watch the restoration and repair videos you like and miss the reviews but don't judge me on it.

@@MyRetroWatches Hi Michael, thanks for the thoughtful & thorough reply. First, and far most important, please do take care of yourself and I hope all of that gets better for you soon! I trust that it's clear that I was attempting a tone & message of helpful input by sharing my own experience of the channel; not attack or judgement. Again, overall it is great and I've gotten a lot out of both this channel and the associated FB group. FWIW, I am quite happy to watch reviews -- and I think I've watched, at least in part, most of the videos that you've done. The gist of my original observation was more to do with the heavy focus on Phoibos and San Martin. I'm sure they are both good brands; I just had a mod done using a San Martin as a starting point and it turned out great. I would even be very interested in vintage watch reviews. Several that I have purchased were as a result of seeing someone post on the FB page with a watch that I'd not previously been aware of. I appreciate your effort and get a lot of enjoyment from the vast majority of your work. On the basis of you post, I can understand that it must feel frustrating and demanding for you to keep it going. Certainly, I have no wish to add to that and consider myself a big supporter.

First impressions when the box opened...Oh dear, another Homage to the Rolex Submariner Hulk.. On the wrist it looked way too chunky, too thick, like a stainless steel cheese burger strapped to a wrist that needed a watch.. The Zig Zag second hand gives the illusion that it is bent, very odd as to why they did this. The Timegrapher results spoke volumes about the movement, something up with the pivot end drift on the balance wheel staff maybe? Yes I know it is a cheap watch, but really I have had better results on Vostok Amphibians costing £70.00 each.
@MyRetroWatches
@MyRetroWatches 2 года назад
Thats fair enough. The NH35 is okay as a movement but not exciting. Its still well within Seiko tolerance and I dont think Phoibos or any other microbrand actually does any testing on these before shipping. San Martin told me they do when I gave them feedback after a review. They went on to day it must have been in transit which was total BS as they are packed so well and it just unlikely. I personally like this watch, its no where near a homage of a Rolex sub , not even close but some think it is because of the green but to me thats not justified Rolex do not own the colour ! I respect anyone's opinion so if you dont like it thats fine. There is not a watch on the planet everyone likes.
