This morning I've been in to see a customer we've been referred to in Crowborough. They have been stitched up, basically. They've got a three or four user phone system that they've been signed up on a seven-year lease for. So they paid, or they would have ended up paying, about £ 15,000 for what essentially is a £2000 phone system. And on top of that, they're paying over £500 a year for maintenance. They're also paying for SIP trunks line rental and also broadband, and they want to basically move away to another provider, which is going to be incredibly difficult for them because they're going to have to see out their contracts.
So I don't know what to say, really. They did say that they may be changing their number, in which case, we can probably sort them out a new phone system, which is a proper hosted phone system. They've got a Unify system. So there may be a way out for them because they're actually closing their business down, and they're going to be starting a different one.
So the moral of the story is if you're a customer that's thinking of getting a phone system provider or deal from somebody, don't sign up for a seven-year contract on anything. I wouldn't lease equipment these days on a seven-year lease. Maybe if you did have to buy a phone system that's not hosted, then that's one thing. But have it on a three-year lease because seven years is just ridiculous. Unfortunately, having done this job for over 25 years, there are several companies that I won't name that are infamous for this kind of thing. They tend to sign people up on these seven-year deals, and the customers are basically paying well over the odds for their solution.
So if you're in any doubt, if you signed a seven-year agreement, if you think you're paying too much for your telephony, please give me a call on 01892-578666, or helpme@tecwork.co.uk, and I'll see what I can do for you. The moral of the story is don't sign up for seven-year contracts. So, yeah, that's the moral, so thank you for listening.
