The “top destination” in Vietnam, 🇻🇳 featuring the largest cave in the world, Son Doong, is apparently strictly reserved for the rich. The tour costs $3000 per person. I see a lot of unnecessary fees included for hotel accommodation etc. before and after the tour. isn’t this a cave tour? Couldn’t we avoid some of these costs by simply accommodating ourselves in Phong Nha before and after the tour? Maybe I’m just completely uninformed about how and why this is so expensive. Can someone enlighten me?

It is to protect thr cave. You don't want thousands of tourists flocking through the cave as it forms its own unique ecosystem. Large tourist masses litter trash everywhere. Also the air humans breathe out can change the local atmosphere inside the cave. So high prices enable to limit the tourist numbers to a sustainable level. Also you can't just walk in the cave. First you need a training how to abseil into the cave. Cave exploring is not as simple as going for a hike in the forest.

@@Alternatives_Universum I’m definitely not in favor of encouraging loads of tourists to tromp through such a cherished space. I’m very in favor of vastly limiting the number of people allowed to enter. My comment is purely in regards to the cost of such an experience. Restricting the number of entries doesn’t require such a huge price tag. It’s as simple as limiting the number of people who come in.. Vietnam is one of the most appealing and affordable countries in the world right now for tourism. A $3,000 cave experience doesn’t fit in relation to the cost of virtually any other comparable adventure offered in the entire country, and surrounding countries for that matter! The cost exudes elitism and is severely limiting to the vast majority of the world’s people. It sends the clear message that your bank account dictates your ability to explore Mother Earth. This experience could be made more affordable, given alone that it’s being offered in VIETNAM! 🤣 Please do let me know why that’s not the case in more detail if you really think so. As far as the work and skill involved in embarking on such an experience.. the work is intense to organize, but the climbing skill is quite minimal.. There is certainly rigor involved and one must be in good shape to take part. The company will detail this for you quickly. I’m not suggesting decent expense doesn’t go into providing the ability to navigate this cave. It’s very complex and remote in relation to Phong Nha. But, what do you assume the average crew member for the company is paid? I bet it’s a darn low wage compared with the profit margin of the owners. I’m simply pointing out a few issues. If heavily monetizing the world’s largest cave gives you no issue, that’s fine. But others will feel differently. Again, it’s as simple as making it loud and clear that very few entries are allowed. That doesn’t require charging a fortune.. people will be in support of that either way! The discovery of this cave is incredibly exciting and those who get to explore it are very lucky. Cheers to those who do! I may, too, take part one day. Very much looking forward to revisiting Phong Nha soon. Paradise cave was gorgeous, Phone Nha cave was one of my favorite adventures in Vietnam. I adore this country and it feels like a second home to me. I will always return for more adventures! 🇻🇳 🫡 despite how much this company is ripping people off for this cave experience 🤭
