Just read chapter 95. My god... Phos' suffering is never going to end. Is it... bad that I'm slightly mad at how accepting the other gems were of this? I mean, don't get me wrong. I can understand how tired they were after centuries of fighting and it's technically in their nature. It's just... I found it hard to swallow to see everyone just went along with the transformation after one made the decision. I don't want a character to turn out like Yellow Diamond, but... Does Phos really deserve all this? He's basically been tossed to the side by the Lunarians and the (former) gems. I know he doesn't expect to be thanked by anyone. Phos just... wanted to have a purpose. That's all he asked for.
No you have every right to be upset. The (former Earth) gems tossed Phos aside for their betrayal of Kongo, and the (former Moon) gems tossed Phos aside because they lost interest in general. Poor Phos was carrying the burden of it all, and now with 95 truly as too.
Im not really sure what the point of this story is. Everyone fought phos, and phos brought everyone peace and happiness except for pho herself. And the worst part is that i think the moon guy wants phos to want to die so she will wipe everyone out, so even though they could just go grab phos and bring her to the moon or go visit her, no one will and she will be alone for 10000 years?! jeez.
@@jebes909090 Well, it has to do with the buddhism theme. Sensei couldn't pray because he was attached to the gems. If they leave him alone, Phos has no one to be attached to.
@@jebes909090 Honestly, at this point I just hope Phos goes like "fuck you" and doesn't pray for them because of all the agony they've put her through.
It is incredible how the concept of "villains" or "heroes" are mixed up right now, the further you go, the more your perception changes. By one hand you can see why the gems were always tired and sort of "rejecting" little Phos, but on the other, when they see what he has become, is it too late to feel sorry 'bout the past (oh the fight when Jade asked sorry and Phos simply don't remember for what). Now makes sense the fear of the change.
I stayed up all last night reading the manga and now i’m here. I’m so upset, I realize it’s in their nature to not be so attached but Phos put everything in, betrayed and lost the trust of their loved ones all to complete the task and have all the gems together again. Fighting the ones they cared most for, just to finally achieve it, but get tossed aside. Meant to suffer 10,000 years of solitude as a reward of giving everything up for the gems and lunarians freedom. And now we’re stuck waiting 😭 I hope Antarc comes through
I seriously don't know how the plot will continue. Everything is now on the table. I actually don't mind other gems being happy. Nor Phos's happiness because it's even Phos doesn't know what they wanted anymore. I just wanted Achemea to suffer and fail.
I'm forever grateful someone else is talking about this. Houseki no Kuni deserves more love and attention. That said, this breakdown just makes it more sad and more real that Phos is going to suffer for the rest of their existence. It hurts man.. this video is good, but it hurt.
2:50 thought i might as well chip in a quote from an academic reading i had for a class on buddhism (considering ichikawa references this sutra in an interview or two, i thought it might be relevant) "...the Fourth Vow of Amida in the Larger Sutra of Eternal Life (Daimuryōju-kyō 大無量寿経 ) in which the contrast between beauty and ugliness vanishes. This Vow reads: 'May I not gain possession of perfect awakening if, once I have attained buddhahood, the humans and gods in my land are not the same in their appearance and are either beautiful or ugly'." through adamant's eyes, the gems are made equal through his chisel
Ohh this is really good information thank you! Yeah Adamant attempted to make the gems feel as equal as possible, but their inherent nature of hardness made it impossible. This ties in with what happens in 95 as well as they are all truly equal for once.
Dude I just read chapter 95 //spoilers below . Poor Phos man, they used to be vibing but now everyone became a Lunarian and they’re just stuck on Earth
But, I just realized that the only gem that has not been revived yet or cannot at all is lapiz lazuli and cairngom, and the top layer of cairngom, leaving only Karengom
Imagine if after those years phos refuses to pray as well as sort of grudge against every gems the lunarians and Kongo. Remember phos kind of lost it before the finally attack he shattered every gem he kind of hates them all
Yeah Idk what Phos will do. Because they don't know what's happening on the Moon, if they pray, they will truly be completely alone. I don't think Phos actually hates the gems. Phos did that in a twisted sense of love.
@@inspirashamul true that still besides antarc and maaaybe diamond and paddy everyone seemed to find phos a burden still i kinda hope new gems will be born to keep phos company
@@Gooberwares Yeah we will see. I don't think any new gems will join Phos as I believe 95 is the death of all lustrous. Phos would rather crush new ones that form as Phos wouldn't want to carry the burden of taking care of them when Phos couldn't even do it for the existing ones.
@@inspirashamul it’s just an wishful thinking the idea of phos being alone again is just cruel still it might be good for phos to have underlings to look up to him.
Since I saw the adaptation I was so deeply amazed by this anime, it was really unique and beautiful but everytime I read the manga I get so mentally drained it’s just leaves me like 🧎♀️
Phos don't need suffer They need peace, they already get so much traumatized and depressed, forcing themselves to look happy.... Everytime this manga is making me want to cry and dream for a future where Phos can finally be truly happy...
Extremely toxic, but they are both equals now so idk if there will be anymore talk about them in the future. I love both of their characters a lot though.
I feel like Antarc being revived will play a major part, maybe he'll now be the exception to the lunarians like phos was the exception among gems. Them and (to some degree Paparadscha) cared about Phos. Cause Phos needs Revenge. WE NEED REVENGE.
Spoilers for the most recent chapter which is 95 iirc: Lmao I hope Phos finds a way to pass time for fucking 10,000 years. Well, atleast Ichikawa finally got her PS5
damnn i never thought of the reason why he couldnt pray its so interesting that it could be because of the fact that him praying for his happiness and making all of them disappear was a paradox
Phos journey is starts out as as a want to be useful to kongo and while that's due to kongos influence over the gems make them want to protect him. I still see it as a selfless want to protect. But as phos grows their journey changes to a selfish one. Wanting to know why the lunarians do what they do, to wanting to bring back all the gems who were taken, to then revenge for being locked away for 200 years. It's this spiral that leaves phos where they are of being alone. In the end phos just wanted happiness but every obstacle they faced forced them to become ruthless in their pursuit. And now every most of the gems must hate phos and the lunarians will use phos as just a tool. I'm sure we all can't wait for this hiatus to end. But the return to this world is going to hurt.
i really loved how you explained phos's blindness and their inclusions acquiring anything new to get stronger. Tossing aside the old and adjusting to the new as he loses himself but his innate intention and motivation has always just been that inferiority complex it immediately reminded me of the beautifully written last line of the opening sequence of the anime: "Dreams that repeat, changing form, are the only things connecting me to here"
@@inspirashamul also thank you for all your beautiful work on this series i just cant get it out of my head since the first day i saw it though it may be a bit complex and not to the liking of many and goes underrated it makes me really happy to find others who truly understand the real beauty of this series
Hate what they did to phos, I would've been fine if I were never introduced to them, if I never grew so attached to them. But no, they made it ever so painful for me to watch phos change in such a way that it hurt as much as it did for me, at least none of phos' sacrifices were in vain, all the other gems get to be happy, except for phos.
This really was an insightful (no pun intended) analysis! I really needed this to sort my thoughts on the last chapters and to really take in all the information that was given to us. I'm just falling more and more in love with HnK, even though it's painful to see Phos suffer. Ichikawa really manages to suprise us after all, I can't wait for everything else she has in store for us!
It's amazing how this can be the most depressing thing ever. It's right at the boundary before becoming to sad to read, yielding just enough so that I can suffer all the harder afterwards.
From the moment the sludge king was sent to earth, she was dropped near Phos, and she seems very like to eat Phos, and since then every single new type always targeting Phos "when" Phos is with someone. What a very long play from Ichikawa
@@inspirashamul when it was revealed that Enma is targeting Phos since the beginning, I thought Ichikawa is just throwing random things at us, but after thinking about it again every event always give Phos some hope in the form of power or knowledge, just to realize how useless that is again in the next events time and time again to break Phos psyche
@@vantasethatsit9903 Yeah I am still a little shaky on how Enma was able to control certain events but hopefully more will be revealed for me to truly understand the scope of Enma's involvement.
@@inspirashamul I have a feeling that Phos is not the only candidate and sensei is helping too. Like yellow have the same treatment as Phos where all his partner is dead, doctor with Papda, Antarc with her loneliness and dependent on sensei, Dia didn't really like with Borth always pair with him for thousands years, Cynca well you know how it is. Some of the problems can be immediately fixed with a simple reshuffle from sensei, for example the moment Phos goes bonkers and categorized as human, Cynca get to live with all the other gems again somehow, they may say she is useful to combat moon gems, but there are no attack for 200 years since Phos is sealed.
Enma really did Phos using Phos as a tool to become a new Adamite after 10000 years All got a happy ending except Phos... But tbh the gems looked kind of feeling bad for phos.. they might go to earth and go get Phos or be with Phos until he becomes a new adamite or break him to be with them as lunarians and be in piece..
@@inspirashamul or might be to give them forgiveness to what they have done to phos Like she was weak the only person that really gets phos was dia, Antarct and ghost but the other gems might say phos was useless, can’t do a thing, hardness is very low, and wish phos was never here.. nobody told sorry to phos nobody gets him,but I think all gems would go down and give forgiveness and a prayer too might as well
@@jebes909090 you know this is honestly a fair point. I wonder why Kongo and Yama were able to speak in Ch 98. Maybe that one technology that let Cicada speak when they came back got upgraded? I never really thought about this tbh
@@inspirashamul my biggest i guess gripe you could call it is the completely unanswered question as to why all the gems became kinda cruel a-holes when they went to the moon. even kongo was like ya f-phos. and he was her biggest proponent for like a thousand year. theres no doubt in my mind that Aechmea altered them somehow, to remove empathy. though the author never addressed this unfortunately.
Because Ichikawa gives me angst and depression as HnK progress, now I have trauma and every HnK related things trigger it :(( Yes HnK (and Inchikawa) is this powerful.
I watched a game called Sora. The protagonist "Sora" went to hibernation for 10,000 years after she defeated "Star Breaker. I said to myself "Imagine Phosphophyllite went to 10,000 years hibernation? Like that will ever happen, hahaha!
@@inspirashamul i still need to read it now that it’s done i know im going to probably cry haha ty for letting me know Dang i can’t believe its finally over and that was 3 years ago
FINALLY MORE PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT THISSS!! It's my favorite series ever, though most people don't know what I'm talking about when I cosplay from it or talk about the recent chapters T^T This viddeo was really really good
Im always so much happy to find new related Hnk content on youtube. Especially when it comes to some analysis. Moreover you did a great work here. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on those topics, it was a real pleasure to watch this video. Can't wait to see more HnK related content from your channel. Good luck for your next works !
What a video. Damn man. I want to write like an thesis paper about this video, but I'm trying to contain myself and not write essays whenever I have something to say about a work of fiction. You keep up the good work though.
I have to keep up with the episodes brb Edit: 10,000 y 😨 , Phos has to stay this long all alone, I feel so sad rn for Phos, and how the other gems are lunarians
Hmmm I need to think about this more, but I don't agree that Lapis is controlling Phos like that. Lapis has enhanced Phos's critical thinking and observational skills, but full on control doesn't seem right for me.
Watching the anime before was interesting as I waited for every episode on animax back then But then reading the manga now is giving a whole dose of depression Indeed Phos has been through a lot And thank you for this I have been waiting for a video review of this Last I checked was 2 yrs ago?when the anime was still on air
I can't imagine how a weekly experience of the anime would be like with those visuals. Glad you enjoyed it! There are some videos out there specifically talking about some chapters or about Phos, but they seemed extremely infrequent to me.
Not blind but Lapis you can imagine it as going from 20/20 vision to 40/20 where Lapis is hypersensitive to information processing compared to Phos's original body.
@@inspirashamul getting the gem is not that hard but getting one for a reasonable price is. If you want to buy a phos thats gem quality then say goodbye to 800 dollars. I just had to settle with a medicore quality phos but there are some nice clear crystals in the cluster of lower quality crystal that i bought.
Man this Series characters have grown so much in each chapter and its so amazing and tragic in a away, also this is why i prefer this over Steven universe (sorry lol)
Looking at Enma or Aechmea from his point of view makes me always ask the question of: is he actually a villain?! I mean all he wanted was to dei in peace and save the lunarians Other than that he brought back all the gems he once turned into dust and welcomed everyone else on the moon and gave them a heavenly utopia but he's somewhat mean towards the Admirabilis and used Phos as a tool But again you can't blame him cuz there's no other way and he spent millions of years trying to do the right thing Man I hate this guy, he reminds me of Bondrewd
Plz plz do analysis on ch 95. Your video is amazing and I got to know a lot about Buddhism as well. Ch 95 have me depression. What is poor phos gonna do? They didn't deserve that!I am mad at Enma.
unrelated, but like cairngorm x aechma is a toxic as FUCK ship like they meet and suddenly BOOm they're in love? fishy as hell imo he's just manipulating cairngorm who was really easy prey for him (cairngorm annoys me man)
I mean they are still the protagonist. I am not too sure maybe the gems would've stayed gems since they would have never made it to the moon as whole gems.
Do the others gems know how many things phos did for them do they even regret how they treated and betrayed or do they just believe believe it is their right like borts for exemple
I am sure Enma would've found some other option because it was Phos's inability in the first 300 years that Enma saw some potential in a plan to work so if it wasn't through Cinnabar as a catalyst, another gem would've served that same role.
Moreso a mindset type of thing but the physical eye itself since Kongo doesn't really need it. He found happiness despite being a broken machine. Also this review is from 2020 and stuck in that pre-Ch 95 limbo if that makes sense. Most chapter specific videos become relevant once the new chapter comes out because I don't have the context of new material when making this. It is quite literally stuck in that time.
@@inspirashamul I will definitely check out more videos on your channel because I'd really like to see more Houseki no kuni content But also, I have one other question, in your hour long Phos analysis video you were talking about their fight with Cinnabar, and how in the end the mercury covers Phos' right side and Cinnabar's left side, I didn't understand the part of how did that scene mean that Cinnabar was the one with happiness all along, could you please explain it to me?
Oh yeah great catch I was referring to this exact point from the Ch 94 video and making that comparison. Since the only eye from Kongo that remained was the right one therefore the right eye of others should be the one filled with happiness because the other eye that was made by Enma on the Moon and forced upon Phos cannot be filled with happiness because even though both eyes were given to Phos, the circumstances and intentions are vastly different. The logic that I linked it to Cinnabar and the mercury is that Kongo happily gave that eye but Phos was manipulated and misled into making it a part of their body. Cinnabar. I will check back on that section of the video and edit this reply to make more sense at a later time.
@@inspirashamul This makes a bit more sense to me, but just so it will be clear enough for me, is the whole point that Cinnabar always had their right eye, and even in the final battle it was still there (referencing if Kongo's right eye was the happiness, so must every other gem's), but Phos' getting covered of their right side, and losing their right eye after being constructed by Kongo signifying that they lost all of their happiness? And after Kongo gives Phos his right eye full of happiness and with good intentions but then getting manipulated into putting it in their eye socket, making them suffer even more?
@@inspirashamul Have you heard of the 7 treasure theory for HnK? I haven't finished the entire video yet but if you haven't heard of it, you should check it out! It's a very interesting theory.
I believe Phos is more than human so they will definitely be alive by the end of the 10k years or there would be no point in Ichikawa giving this that big of a time skip.
