I’m 3 months in on my first two lights, gotta say, it was worth the wait. Already built a third, and will be building more as money allows. I’m seeing a 50% increase in yield over my Bestva 3000w leds, with about a 10% reduction in heat, and a 40% reduction in energy usage. It replaces about 1.5 of my original lights. Very nice build!! Thank you!
Receiving delivery of most of the components this week. I find the url for the Tnutz/screws shown above is a .5 inch screw. The url shown in the reference design build on the pacific lights website is a .75 inch screw. I received the heatsinks from heatsink USA and they are .5 inch deep. The .75 inch is the one to order. I am in Michigan and the weather has turned unseasonably cool. I am anxious to receive the 8 strips and get this light hung so I can bring in my outdoor plants if needed. Thank you very much for providing all this information, along with the info on Jacks. I switched to Jacks 3-2-1 this summer. The difference is astonishing.
@@TheWorstGamerEva total cost was about $450. I recently added a UVB bulb because LED does not create UV light. Flower in day 31 and looking frosty. The UV add on was around $100. It should add 30% more trichomes.
Just fired the first half of my light. Blown away! Still seeing trails from my inability to keep myself from gawking at this beast upon its first juicing. Thanks GJean. Your council has proved priceless and my first grow is looking better than ever. Thanks, Mr. Fancy Plants
This video is my go to vid for when i have issues with my fixtures. Its helped me rewire new ballasts and potentiometer when they failed on my fixtures. Huge Thanks!
Thank you Greengenes and PLC for yet another awesome contribution to the community. And the video showing how to make this all come together. You and Growmau5 are some very special cats and your knowledge and talents are very much appreciated.!🔥🌿💯👊👍👑
You and growmaus are the best out there! Has anyone ever told you that you look like a young Tony Hawk? lol Keep on blessing us with knowledge, we appreciate it!!!
@@mrmateo513 I'm also wanting to light a 5x5...Wonder if we would have to add a couple boards to each fixture to properly light the 5x5....Seems 2 fixtures will be fine for a 4x4, but I'm wanting to light a 5x5 without being on the low end of photon output....
@@Khaymen223 I ended up getting a 315 cmh light and put a 200 watt cob on the right side and a 260 watt quantum board on the other side...doing all kinds of experimenting on my lighting right now lolso far it's about even im only 4th week of veg so I wont have numbers until flowering,so far its so even cant really pick what I like... I plan on getting a 5x10 tent after harvest I might just keep them all
@@getbrainseeds I'm using a standard 1000 HPS and it's not enough for a 5x5.....I'm revamping the room and can't find any led that matches affordability, and quality for a 5x5 size.....If I stuck with hid it has to be air cooled cmh as I'm done with HPS....I really want led but price point is still too high for me
Much love for sharing your knowledge with the RU-vid community. I am very capable of such a build after watching your video. I will be buying the parts in a couple months when I can swing the expense. The lights I have in my 4x4 tent are five year old and just pieces of crap. So I guess I should say I’ll be building a couple of these units. Thanks again. Greatly appreciated.
I just got my strips in today! Diy is the way to go. GG this is an awesome light! Keep the knowledge, videos and content coming! Thank you!! Planning to have 3 maybe 4 of these lights. They are bright, WOW!!
i bought enough boards for 2 lights......i will be doing this from now on....i also set my ballasts up outside the area for heat reduction and added a 3 prong connector at the light for quick detach ... makes for easier transport. I will be ordering more boards....please keep us posted on any deals or specials.....i will even promote this product to the best of my ability. Also any future technology upgrades. you have created a light builder here! starting my 2nd one now.
Love how informative and easy you make these videos. Am not yet comfortable to try the build as yet but the concept seems great especially if one has a grow room which requires a few lights
I wish I can give more then 1 thumbs up. I hope people like you take the market over man for reals, led company’s are soooo greedy it pisses me off. Led stripes are soooooo efficient in so many ways you can make almost every shape you need custom to your needs, it’s brilliant. Good luck to you sir, stay humble and stay positive 🍻
@@GreengenesGardenOfficial What is hard to find are the PAR numbers.. Plz man, i want to buy this ligt. But i need to know what a setup like this one does PAR wise in a 4x2 space.
Yeah I'm not sure if maybe they used two different component or not everything works fine it just does not go to zero is all. Excellent build excellent work this thing is bright as "F".... thank you for sharing it. It's brighter than my electric sky ES300 at over $200 cheaper and I got to build it myself which I love and take pride in.
Gene, Thank you, once again, for taking the time to put out a great video! I will admit I haven't made the leap to LED just yet, but I'm learning quite a bit and that's all thanks to you. Thank you Sir.
His video's along with the Groumou5, they both have done all of us growers a huge service providing insight into the world of lighting and markups in the business world. While Gene could make a video with awesome plants and different lighting capabilities, show you all of the positive things that LEDs provide then as closing credits roll jus have a gigantic middle finger saying F.Y. or I do my homework so do your own and G.F.Y. everyone! Nope, not his site! Gene has really hooked up the growers or technically inclined people and this was 2 years ago when photoboost strips were still fairly new or how they could be used paired with whites. Support Gene and his work every chance you get. Not only is he saving everyone a ton of money he's also making these DIY vids that take hours to record, edit, and upload. I wanna see Mr Cannuk or one of these youtubers do all Gene does plus the nutrient vids and numerous other help section training he's providing you with a click of your index finger!
Hey , great build. I did your press build. Works great , well explained, as is this one. I'm thinking of doing a couple of these , maybe more. I have one question. You mentioned 320 watts but I never heard mentioned how many lumens or what this system would replace. I'm using 1000 watt hps for a 3' x 4' area right now. Would this unit replace what I have?
@Tin Tizzy thanks for the reply , just noticed it. Getting ready to build a couple to start. Not as much a power savings as I'd hoped , but the heat out put should help overall with what we have now. Very hard to keep the room cool enough in summer.
Awesome!!! Damn, got me drooling. Wanna do this new build. Followed you so far. But, damn, what to do w/the COBs(24 cxb3590, 12 cxb3070) 9 drivers(185h, etc), zigbee wifi controller. Tough keeping up w/you and this new tech. But, then, it's all progress. Looks like time to turn in the pocket change jar. Great vid.
I feel ya. With these strips, the HLGxxx-c1400's can be used if you have any from the older 3070 builds. And by no means are those COB builds obsolete. If they are growing what you need, and not costing you on upkeep, they are doing their job better than a new light would. But the urge to tinker and try new stuff in the LED world, can be a pricey urge.
Shit ya, COBs ROCK!!! NO complaints, here. By no means. DIY/growing is pricey, but, aaah!, the investment is well worth it. Thanks for the driver tip. Good to know I can use my drivers. That's a saving, there. I believe your site listed compatible drivers. Thanks for the reply.
I was contemplating buying the Gavita 1700E, but the price just didn't sit well with me. Instead, I want to build a 48"x 48" version of this light with 8 light bars for a 5x5 grow area. I want a driver that will push 640 watts. Which one do you suggest? Doubling the price of the driver listed, I calculated it would cost me about $765 to build with your listed parts. That's a hell of a lot better than $1300 gavita which you can't dim unless you buy the $400 controller! BTW...EXCELLENT video!!
hey this video is fantastic! I am inspired! I was wondering if you could recommend a different link for the 3-pin connectors though? The one in your video description is 404'd. Much love brother I appreciate you.
Renaissance man or Svengali, I love the breadth and clarity of your work. I'd like to do this LED build for a 4'x4' but double it (8 sinks, 16 strips) on say 42" rails. Q1: WOULD NOT THE MEAN WELL HLG-480H-C1400B DO THE TRICK FOR A DOUBLED-UP VERSION? Your garden looks great under LEDs!! Q2: As far as spectrum: Would you recommend I use CMH/HPS lighting during Veg and then flipping to LED, or just use these LEDs from start to finish? Keep on teaching.
If things go right , I want to order some supplies from P.L.C. Gene. I'm working on it. Thanks for all of Your work. May The Most High protect You, and bless You with all You need. Respect
You could also size your tent, buy a tin, or some thin alum sheed, mount the lights to that, and mount the rads to the other side, that way you only have radiant light heat that you would have anyway, but also a full reflective surface, and a closed off area to vent much easier.
I would like to see a par meter under this fixture. Nice light spread, shouldn't have any hot spots. Some UV T5's in between each light strip would work out nice. This light is nice.
The new heatsinks are terrific. Since I am never removing the strips from the old heatsinks, I’ll ask Samsung to get off their butts and focus on this new Shipment...do you believe that September will be it?
Ok so I got a cheap grow light I got off eBay. It looked like a mars reflector 600. Well I took it apart and it had two drivers running the leds and two small I guess 12v running the fans. The led drivers are 70-80v at 680+5% ma so 714ma. Would using these boards be any good at that drive current?
You say 3/4” screws in your video a few times but the link on the supply list goes to a 1/2” screw. Can you clarify which one is the correct size to use?
There is a simpler way to build with the PLC heatsinks. You can use a single frame piece up the center and use the hole in the center of the heatsink to use standard 80/20 hardware. Check out instagram.com/p/B5ZhMCWJFD3/?
Wassupp Brother, Once again it"s an awesome DIY vid. Can"t believe some of the questions being asked. ATTN: ALL VIEWERS!!! Watch the video in it's entirety and most importantly PAY ATTENTION to what he is saying and 70% of you could answer your own questions. PLEASE let him use his time creating more awesome stuff!!! Thank you!!!! Come on people!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!
got a chilled logic (4 growmau5 puck) light from rapid led on the way, but this is deffo the next light i get......been dying to try out the bar tech but the commercial systems (fluence spyder, etc) are pricey!
I've enjoyed watching this video. I've learned quite a bit. The one thing I just can't grasp is the purpose of the 'thermal tape'. The name implies its used to control heat, but you clearly don't use it for that. If you did, you wouldn't tear it off before putting on the boards. What's more is you go into buying a slightly larger thermal tape and then just trim the excess. What's the point if you're going to tear it off before applying the boards?
@@GreengenesGardenOfficial LOL After reading your response, it makes so much more sense. I mean, what point would there be to have one sticky sided thermal tape? Duh! Thank you for your response.
I was wondering the same thing so i looked it up, 240$us lights strips 90$us driver 150$us for the rest(heat sinks, thermal tape and mounting hardware) 480$ before taxes and shipping. This is a gorgeous clean build but i don’t see much savings🤷♂️
Merry Christmas! Curious if you have any diy lights for sale, or is this video for us to get ideas and learn to build? What's the price difference in buying a complete fixture? Also are these the boards what your using in your setup in the shed? I am definitely interested! Please get back to me I am serious about the question. I have a larger space and the price for a quality fixture optic led, hlg, chilled led are just insane for a 500-700 watt light. I just can't spend that again. Basically trying to figure out if it's worthe going diy
Hey Gene, hard to find insights and knowledge such as yours (thank you man!!!). Can you link the second power cable (open ended power supply for offboard driver) in the video listing. I can't find it anywhere on the AMAZON! Thanks in advance man!
I have purchased heat sinks from you and supports from tnutz. I have seen the link to a instagram page where you have 1 support in the middle. Can I use the support I already purchased from tnutz (doesn’t look like you used theirs in pic) and is there a wiring diagram for this configuration? Also I have a cheap light, 600 W viperspectra in 4x4 tent. I am sure this will provide better coverage but how will this compare lumens, par, ect.
Gene! I am going to build one of theese following your instructions, as soon as the strips get back in stock! But i have a question, not regarding the build, but light itself. You are my goto guy with most the things i dont understand regarding growing cannabis. And i wanted to ask you, what is the significance of uvb radiation when it comes to resinproduction? Is there anywere i can read about it that you know of? Or mye you have a short answer? Anyways. Love your work, man. Much respect for your dedication, and your way. Big up.
Great job dude. Quick question the driver or (power supply) do they make a 240v version cause I couldn't find one. Also how does the harvest from these leds compare to say hps harvest? More or less as far as yelid? Thanks
Hey man, have watched and learned many things from you, thank you! These strips are out of stock and this video is a bit old as tech goes, is there a alternative?
Extremely well done video and thank you. You say that this is a grow light and you explain about the white and red but what about the blue? Is the white LED's considered the blue as well. I'm new so please overlook my ignorance. Thank you
If you view the PLC lights on the site -> you can see their spectral distribution here -> www.pacificlightconcepts.com/product/photo-boost-strip-light-engine/
If you go to his website link in the description then click the link at the bottom of the page, there's a breakdown of everything. $375-$430 for all parts shipping not included. You're welcome :)
@William Roach I heard that the reds need to be ran separately, not 100% but thats just what I heard. Those strips are quite expensive. I’m basing my build on this but I went with J Series (Cree) strips from Cutter
great video, and as you stated this build is specific to the plw boost strips, which are not and have not been obtainable since i watched this video, over a year ago. The plw website states1/20/20. problem is since 2018, the tech and science is soooooo much improved. great page, but please just update and offer other alternates that are available.
so how much for the whole kit or for like 4 of these assembled and shipped to me? can we mix spectrums as well or is the difference in diode frequencies/spectrums cause degredation of other ones making mixing them the problem?
Do you have any PAR numbers available? Do you have a build video of you doubling this LED build, say 4x4? Also, You say it has plenty of White LED lighting and includes Red LED's but does it have any blue or would the blue be considered part of the white spectrum? Sorry, I'm new to this. By the way, the LED strips are now back in stock cause I just bought 8. WooHoo!
