Watching again ; these structures , their art composition materials , there is a rightness , my father worked in fine cabinet making , every home , we had we built , and the kitchens were hand made solid Cherry , solid wood fashioned , I can still feel that cabinetry , under my young hands fingers gliding. That is what comes back looking at these old historic structures , the touch of hands. Wonderful.

What an absolutely beautiful time to visit Kyoto. I would have not thought to shoot such beautiful color in B&W, but you show that it works so well. The beautiful subtle image at 5:49 with the single leaf and it's shadow. Excellent. The picture of the woman kneeling with the subtle light and that pose and expression 8:59 is a spectacular capture. Awesome sir. Love the final scene with you and your PEN FT, very fitting final scene. You look so content. Your videos and images are a joy to see. I look forward to the day that I visit your beautiful country in both spring and fall.

They designed Pro cameras properly in the old times. I still have my Nikon F3, FM2, FE2 from late 70s~early 80s and all those wonderful Nikon AI lenses with 52mm Filter thread, from the 20mm all the way to the 80~200 F4. One set of filters ( including a Nikon Sofar and the Contrast yellow, deep yellow. Orange, Red, Green etc) . Nowadays, it seems the camera manufacturers go out of their way to make us buy super large 82mm filters for the ever increasing sizes of their lenses. My 500CM and 553 ELX are getting old like myself, but unlike me they are still going strong. Come to think of it, when I bought my Hasselblad filters all those decades ago, they were quite expensive TBH, particularly the Softar that I used for taking portraits. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the younger generation of photographers, and reminding all of us that there was life and brilliant photography before digital.

@@StevenTanno thats okay. When i first saw this i was "why on earth is she shooting foliage in black and white". But i must admit, some of your frames here and in other videos are very good. I enjoy your videos. I bought a f4. I have a question. In one you are shooting through fences? Why through the fence? In others I'm just not seeing what you are shooting or "seeing". I don't question your judgement, you are clearly with skill and talent. I just find it curious. Your attitude and demeanor in these videos is very pleasant as well. Earnest, confident, inspiring

I'v been in Kyoto from 2nd till 10th of December. I shot exclusively 135 color negativ film and black and white digital. For the first time in a long while I shot 5 rolls color film to document the beautiful autumn in Kyoto. Although I'm looking forward to get hands on my developed negatives I find your approach more interesting. Thank you so much for your inspiring video.

Lovely shots Steven. I sometimes use the orange filter with HP5 on the Hasselblad. The softar filter gave you a nice effect.

Thank U John. The orange is better than red I think, and also just need 2 stop down the speed.

Lovely video again Steven! I've got a question though, I'm looking for a (bit) wider angle lens for my Nikon F3, and I noticed you also shoot a lot with Nikkor lenses so I was wondering what your favorite 28 - 35mm lens is?
@StevenTanno
@StevenTanno Год назад
I was love my 24/2.8 AI-S when I was young, actually 24 with amazing color performance even on digital Nikon. But I would say 28mm f2 is a very good choice.
