Quite an expensive trip, Mike, but some amazing results, so well worthwhile. That parking machine seemed to have a greater appetite than even the gannets did!

I've been diving off Eyemouth in Scotland and had gannets go past me at least 30 feet down.

We're local to Brid/Bempton there is free parking available along the landward side of South Marine Drive just 300mtrs from the harbour, almost always spaces available for early arrivers.

Beautiful photos and narration just like David Attenborough. And the best part, "We are feeding a parking machine". Love frm India

Hi from Turkey..I am awildlife photographer as well. Planning to visit isle of may for puffins..is that a good plan..is this the best in uk for gannets puffins and other birds? Thanks for the answers...great videos do follow you..

Yes it is very good if you can stay overnight for the morning and evening light. Difficult to get accomadation though and probably too late for this year. Look at their website. isleofmaybirdobs.org/ Farne Islands and Bass Rock are also very good, but access is far more restricted than it used to be. I am not sure of this years arrangements. For Gannets the easy place is Bempton Cliffs.

Hi Mike, I really look forward to to your videos, always a joy to watch (and learn), I’m taking a trip to Cornwall in September taking in Newquay, St,Ives and the Lizard and attempt to take some seabird photos with my Canon 7D mk ii and Canon 400mm 5.6 with a 1.4 extender. Looking forward to your next video 👍🏻

You can always reach the 30fps with 200-600 but you need to set the autofocus priority to "release", like every other lenses on A1, and be confident it will be focused like 95% and more. I really enjoyed your sense of humour at the beginning! Wonderful shots!

Beautiful Mike! I have encountered Gannets off the cliffs of New Zealand during the height pf their breeding season but was nowhere close to feeding action like this. Awesome.

Lovely film, Mike. The boat out to the Bass Rock also gave a few opportunities for photographing diving Gannets.

I know how much the parking is at the harbor as I live in Bridlington if I knew you was coming I could have told you where it would have been cheaper. But to the point great video those diving Gannet cruises are great aren't they? I will have to save up for one next year. Great images Mike thanks, Steve V.

Enjoyable video & good idea to get your own group together to keep numbers down, went on one of the diving trips recently but didn't get too many Gannets diving, will pay special attention next time out...

I was recently up at Seahouses in Northumberland and on the coast by the golf course Gannets dived into the water at the same spot as the tide was coming each afternoon . There were about 30 to 60 metres away . I was pleased with some of the results but thank goodness for digital and 10fps.

Lovely Mike even the abundance of coin diving into and swallowed up by the machine a story in itself. Don't see much of the M4/3 gear Mike is that now permanent on the subs bench ?

It does take second place to the Sony. The AF is so much better, but I am holding on to the Olympus hoping their next model catches up.

Thanks a lot for yet another fantastic video. Some stunning action, both footage and stills. Out of curiosity, what are the problems you are seeing with auto ISO?
@MikeLaneFRPS
@MikeLaneFRPS 3 года назад
Sometimes I look at the iso and see it is at 100 iso. Seems such a waste. I would rather it was at 1600 iso and my shutter speed was faster of I was getting more DOF. After around 50 years of shooting aperture priority it is hard to change.
@thescouser8629
@thescouser8629 3 года назад
Hi Mike, what do you see as the pros and cons of auto ISO? I guess a pro is control of speed and depth of field? Bob
@MikeLaneFRPS
@MikeLaneFRPS 3 года назад
I do not feel there is that much in it. I am more used to Aperture priority and when in a rush less likely to make a mistake doing what I have been doing for almost 50 years. I find in Auto iso it sometimes takes pictures at 100 iso and that seems a waste. I would rather have had a faster shutter speed or more DOF. Aperture priority seems more instinctive to me. Leave the camera at 1600 iso, open the aperture wide when I want a fast shutter speed and close it down when I need more DOF.

Good video Mike. I see you had David Tipling for company. Did you try his 150-400mm ?
@MikeLaneFRPS
@MikeLaneFRPS 3 года назад
No I didn't. If we had not been on a rocking boat I might have asked to look through it, but staying upright was often difficult enough.
@rogerhance5883
@rogerhance5883 3 года назад
@@MikeLaneFRPS I have never done this. Would love to try, but I get seasick just thinking about a rocking boat ! I can understand why you didn`t do video. It must be very difficult with a long lens had held while the boat is moving.

@@rogerhance5883 if you are likely to be seasick at least have fish and chips beforehand then the other photographers will thank you for chumming the water
