It also took a minute for _Cape Light_ to click with me -- I didn't spend much time on the Cape, but I grew up on the North Shore so saw that kind of "small beach town" aesthetic more through the lens of Manchester & Gloucester & Rockport. Also really enjoyed your Robert Frank video, can't wait to see more videos in that vein.
Great photos - you've got a consistently excellent eye for composition. I always watch your videos through to the end. The C220 is one of my mechanical "four horsemen", i.e. the medium format cameras that I'll own to the end - a C220, a Hartblei 88 (you can still buy them new!), a GW680iii, and a Lerouge 66. Anyway, what you may be interested in - the C220. I find my neck gets sore using it for extended periods, and I never enjoyed WLF framing. On thingverse, you can get model file for a 3D printed adapter to allow you you to mount a Kiev 88 or Hasselblad prism on the C220/330. My Hartblei 45 degree metering prism I bought new, it works fantastic with the C220. I highly recommend it. A word of caution though - don't buy the prism adapter off fleabay for the C220. They're made of PLA and they break easily at the retainer screw point. Instead, upload the model file to xometry and have them SLS print a copy from Nylon 12. Xometry is actually a bit cheaper than fleabay, $27. It looks better, and is nearly indestructible when made of Nylon.

This video really touched on a thought that keeps crossing my mind every now and then: We have, for the most part, figured out how to make pretty pictures. We know how to land compositions, lighting and all the other parameters and it is fairly known how to balance and manipulate all of this to create different styles and therefore moods etc. And I think we've all seen the majority of what "works" a few times over. The pictures are still pretty, but they don't really hit that hard, and I don't think they can hit as hard as the work of the first guys who figured these things out and pioneered photography, then later on colour photography, and so on and so forth. Ok, my point! Pretty pictures only leave a lasting impression if they are ground breaking and new, the first of their kind, which hardly exists these days.. BUT, something that I find always carries depth or can still hit you the right way is the meaning and context of the photo. Knowing the story behind it can take a fairly meh photo and make it amazing and special. And this is shown by Dan's photo. When it popped on screen I couldn't help but smile and enjoy the photo. Because of the whole story, interaction and character behind it, I love it! and lets face it, it's a pretty big mess😂 Had I been in your shoes, that photo would've had value to me! And you will probably get a good chuckle out of it a few years down the line and still remember the scene well. I think this gives photos "life", and that "life" is in dire shortage in modern day photography.. Cool vid bro, enjoyed this one😊 But yeah, also, book reading lady is ace!👌🏻
Excellent vid Robbie; so much to love. The whole “looking at a place i feel i know really well from a different perspective” can be really disconcerting; the first impression we have of somewhere is always really contextual, and we tend to keep visiting it in our mind from that context. Pleased you did have the reason to question whether or not “the old timey town still exists” to open up to what had never registered because it didn’t have importance to you as you were first discovering it as a kid. I was weirdly really moved with your interaction with the guys sitting at what looked like a memorial. And that portrait of the lady reading could easily have been an editorial pic in a lifestyle/fashion mag. Just beautiful composition of subject and feeling. I was trying to remember how i discovered your channel. I thought it was from a snow walk with a Linhof220, but couldn’t find that vid on your channel or anywhere thru a quick search. The thing that prompted that thought was me opening the vid with thought “hope he’s taking out the C220 again” then you saying “you guys like gear” and me getting defensive and saying back “nah, it’s not the gear - it’s what you do with it, and how you take us along for the ride of using it”… Genuinely appreciate the effort you make to bring the experience to the audience. Your vids are way more “packages of love and enthusiasm” than “content”.

@@RobbieMaynardCreates pleased you appreciated the feedback; was a bit self conscious that it had become a bit of an essay / ramble…. No, it wasn’t the super-angulon, must have been someone else with a similar-ish vibe. The Linhof 220 is the least Linhof of Linhofs; it’s a very plasticy 6x7 viewfinder with a weird ass handle/grip. They’re rare as hens teeth in most of the world, but think they had a minor cult following in the US perhaps mid 70’s, early 80’s?
