Have you been to Patagonia? Do you want to go now you have seen this?

I've not been to Patagonia, but I will be heading that way in December 2024. Your video has made me very excited and I would love to photograph the wildlife (pumas, birds, etc). My question is whether to bring my RF 600 f4 or just the RF 100-500 (which Guts was using). How were Gut's photos with the RF 100-500. Was it fast enough in dim light? I'm going to Antarctica for the first week in December 2024, then the second week I'll be in Torres del Paine. The bottleneck is the weight limit of 17 lbs for the flight from Puntas Arenas to King George Island in Antarctica. I also want to do some landscape, so I would also have my RF 14-35 f4 and RF 70-200 f4. Also have a 1.4 and 2.0x extenders. Do you have any puma guides and trackers that you can recommend? I see that you are not heading a workshop there until 2025, but I also want to do an African Safari in 2025. Can you help me with that? Thanks?

I completed a 6 day puma tracking trip in the same location in May, 2024. Your video perfectly captures the key questions and issues to consider for such a trip. We likewise were skeptical of going so far to photograph "just one species." I lived in Africa for 20 years and did many photographic trips there and around the world. Even so, Patagonia is now amongst our favorite locations. The pumas are stunning and the landscape is spectacular. And being able to get out and hike takes the whole experience to another level. As you note, one should be in decent shape to take this on - trying to keep up with a puma is not easy. Sure take the prime lens but a shorter zoom is absolutely essential (I used a 100-400 mm) to allow you to capture the pumas in their stunning environment. Great job on the video as it provides all the essential information, relevant and accurate tips on what gear to bring, and answers all the key questions one should consider for such a trip. Bravo!

Interesting to see the pumas checking you out closer without thinking you are lunch. Glad to see you Janine and Guts traveling out of Africa and capturing amazing nature and wildlife photography. Thanks so much for your hard work, and tripods are nice but are also a pain to carry unless on a good back pack and you have a strong back. New Brunswick, Canada.

We have lots of other adventures out of Africa in the pipeline..want to be able o offer as much as we can to our guests but we wouldn’t send them (or go with them) to a new destination without doing a full recce first…its a tough job but someone has to do it!

Patagonia is trully wonderfull land. I've been there for hiking for 2 weeks, and would love to come back in the late autumn when colors are so intense. Would I go only for pumas? probably not, but I think 3-4 days of tracking pumas at the end of the trip would be creme de la creme of the journey. There is so much more to see - glaciers, Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre, hikes in Paine area, Pehoe Lake, lagunas of incredible colors, majestic waterfalls, and wildlife in Land of Fire, the step, the smell of lenga forest.. 🤩 For nature lovers, it's a must-see destination.

Awesome video, thank you so much. I love the big cats all over the world. We of course have mountain lions in Alberta, but truthfully, even though I live near the mountains I have never, unfortunately, seen one. At one time, we used to see signs of a mountain lion and her cub on our road, but land clearing by the paper companies has encroached so badly on their territory that we no longer see that. We used to see the little Lynx all the time and, for the same reason, that no longer happens. I would love to go to Patagonia, but for many reasons I will just have enjoy your videos and photos. Thank you so much.

Wonderful video! I will be in Patagonia later this year in December and would love to do photograph the pumas. Which guide and tracker do you recommend? I will be staying in Torres del Paine park, but which estancia did you go to? Thanks! I want to bring my Canon R5 and 600 f4. Should I supplement with my RF 100-500 or is it too slow a lens? Also monopod or tripod?

I wonder if the 100-500 may be the better choice for a location like this. Given the open landscape and incredible scenery, you may not need such a shallow depth of field. Much freedom to adjust your position for better background separation if needed, and the ability to zoom out when they come in close. High iso is a problem but not often a deal breaker

Thanks for the very informative and exciting suggestion. I am always watching the Pangolin videos and always get excited and want to go on one. What company did you use to lead the way? My main issue is the cost since both Botswana and now Patagonia are quite far and the cost is prohibitive. Yet... why not get the information and make plans
