I am sure you have learned this by now (since the video is a couple years old), but the reason your DSLR pictures look dull or even muddy with colors is that it takes raw data and you HAVE to process it. It gives you a range of data that you then process to your final outcome. It is not cheating to use Lightroom or even Photoshop to process an image (less so to bring it to what your eye saw). That is what they are there for. They are your "darkroom" for DSLR images. And yes, even with film photography the images are edited when processing; and many far more than you might think. Processing of film is as much an art form as the photography itself. The trick with processing either, is to not OVER PROCESS. Cheers!
