With a forecast for some extreme winter conditions, I packed up my 4x4 camper van, grabbed my Nikon Z7 II and headed to the far north of Scotland to indulge in some winter landscape photography. This is exactly why I purchased and built my Mitsubishi Delica camper van.

I make videos too for RU-vid and the effort required is very high. Thomas’ videos are so insanely good I hate to think of the effort required. Not to mention all the back and forth walking for the camera etc.

I've said this before but I do admire your efforts in the film making. Those set up shots for driving away in the snow (knowing you had to reverse to collect the camera!) Top work Tom, enjoyed the video as always

It's easier on a multiday trip like this, because it's very clear that I'm there to work and have nothing else to do. So, putting in the extra effort makes sense. If I'm close to home and out for the afternoon, I become far more lazy.

I really love the pano shot, it just feels like it captures so much of what I love about Scotland in one image, the rugged natural beauty that is worth waiting to see even if only in a brief glimpse before being claimed again by the weather

I LOVE that shot you finally put up in this video, Thomas. Something so moving about it. Especially knowing your "patience" for getting that shot. Awesome. But what is the deal with your headlight fuses!??! I've never seen that before. And to hear that you've had that problem "once before" makes me nervous. That should not be a fail point of your vehicle!

2 great images. No easy filming in this episode. Timing in everything along with planned luck. Tip on your fuse blowing... Could be the HID style bulbs you have causing the problem.

Does the aux fog lights runs on the same fuse? i think something causing bigger amp load, that may be why fuse keeps burning. Anyway, if you'll ever forget the spares, just use any other non important fuse, like interior light or radio etc.

If i Can recommond someting to landsape photographer, Its a Golf Umbrella, the Big and heavy one, It reduces the need for a pop-up cover for your gear as its sturdy and big, I yes u guessed it, It handles wind really good. Another tip is , use and old jackets head cover for the camera,Warm, Goretex,Wet Resistant and it protects your camera. and on that topic add a GoPro for usage in rain,snow or cold so u don't break your gear for nothing.

I appreciate the struggle. I’ve tried to shoot Ben Loyal several times and never been happy. Either cloud or flat light or too harsh light. There is such a complexity of shapes it’s hard to get everything as you want it. But I’ve never tried it in winter, you’re a brave man taking that on!

Interesting video, you are clearly loving life. Good choice of vehicle btw, these are very reliable, and have good offroad capability. A couple of points to mention though, and this is friendly advice btw, firstly (and forgive me if you've already thought of this) you should have a shovel, ground anchor and a winch (or at least ratchet straps) on an adventure like this just in case you get your vehicle stuck in some remote place. Secondly, fuses blow for a reason (assuming it is of the correct size in the first place), so there is a fault somewhere on your headlight circuit that should be investigated as it may catch you out when you least expect it..... Thanks for posting, and take care.

I have been thinking of taking up photography after we bought our son a camera with a couple of lenses and he is getting into it. My question is as I have a tremor which is the best option for image stabilization and do you think it would work for me or would it be best to only shoot from a tripod and do cameras still come with a button on the end of a cable or do any have remote picture taking capability from a remote or smartphone. My interests would be landscapes so I have subscribed and liked and also cars after I have detailed them i.e. before and after and maybe some video of the process. Thanks.

Thomas, everytime I see you on wild places I can't help feeling jealous. In Turkey, where I live, we have soo many wild animals like bears, wolves, boars etc. and I never feel safe when I get out of the road especially on winter season.
